I wanted to write a comment to every of the last few episodes but unfortunately I didn't have much time over december and also I just. Got a freakin flu and didn't have a strenght to actually think too much over it. Thats why my comment may be a little bit long, because I would like to cover some topics that appeared in the last episodes! I'm so happy that you properly met Togame and learned about his emotions and backstory of him and Choji! Togame is definitely my favourite character in the whole Wind Breaker, I love him because he is genuinely such a good person that just. Actulally wanted to help and do good and just choose a wrong path to do it. I love how much to unpack is during his fight with Sakura. I'm sad in anime they didn't show the image of skinny, ill, dying lion, when Togame was thinking "when head does not work, limbs can work properly" because it was wonderfully symbolizing Shishitoren as a whole, with the whole team being presented as a dying lion. That was only a one panel, but it was very good. And that was showing how Togame understood that Shishitoren is weak and people in it starts to act in a bad way (like Kanuma and Arima bullying a middle school kid) because them, as a head of a team, weren't working properly. That leads to the next point I want to talk about - Shishitoren being weak. When we were starting this arc we could assume that Bofurin would not win ALL 5 matches. It nearly seems as a bad writing, to make protagonists team to win all matches, that takes the stakes and all. But it all makes perfect sense when you actually watch the WHOLE arc - they didn't win because of the protagnists plot armour, but because literally THE POINT of the whole arc was that Shishitoren WAS weak. They were. The whole point of the arc was showing how bad leading (Choji and Togame) changed the group. A lot of people in Shishitoren sure are strong, but they were in REALLY bad place mentally, which resulted in all 5 matches being lost. Even Togame's match when he straight up just lost with Sakura on purpose (we could assume that Togame is strong enough to take Sakura on if he would be in good place mentally). It was all to show us as a viewers the importance of a leader figure in Wind Breaker - the contrast of Umemiya and Choji and how many lessons can Sakura as a protagonist take from the whole situation. Togame and Choji is a good ship, but my fav is definitely Togame and Sakura! I think Sakura deserves such a nice, supporting big man in his life. Maybe I just have a crush on Togame myself, who knows. Tho Suosaku is also good, generally I think Sakura is very shippable character and I have at least like 4 or 5 ships with him that I really love in the whole series. There is this whole sun imaginery with Choji through the whole arc. Not only was Togame comparing him to the sun, but the change of the weather in flashbacks symbolize sunny day getting cloudy and then raining, shishitoren literally living in the rain, Chojis light changing from the sun to lightning during the rain (he was two times showed during the lightning strike), then started to rain in the beginning of his fight with Umemiya and stopped to rain after their fight (they could eat outside). And the chapter when Bofurin leaves their turf and Choji and Togame talks with eachother is literally named something about sun rising again (I cant check now how it was actually named but something like that). That adds up with Togame starting to wear a sunglasses after the change. Generally his sunglasses were SO symbolic just like you noticed. He was not only restricting himself but also literally hides himself from the light. The anko bun that Umemiya gives Choji is also so symbolic - it symbolizes the whole Shishitoren, like Choji eats it and says that even after what happens to it (it was in Ume's pocket al the time, so it was warm and flattened and all) it was still delicious and he and Togames shares halves of it. Like, Shishitoren after all of it could still be a good group, and they both should work on it together. I also like like none of them deny their fault in what happened to Shishitoren, they both decided to take the responsibility of their doings, they know that simply apologising is not enough and they need to actually work on being better and helping their group go out of this. From my perspective, Choji is such an obvious ADHD + depression combination. He shows such a obvious syndromes of depression. Him being unable to feel exictment, satisfaction and happines despite trying and wanting, having problem with remembering things (like, for example, faces and how it was before his depression episode), him having problems to mantain positive relationships with other people and generally pushing other people away, feeling of dullnessand emptiness, showing selfharming tendencies (like when he pulled his own hair out during his fight with Umemiya), saying he do not want/do not need anything, dangerous behaviors (both towards himself and others), problems with properly noticing how his behavior and attitude influence other people close to him, him letting his hair grow out (may be taken for caring for himself and his appearance less) etc. For me he was clearly depressed, like as a depressed person I can see a lot of similarities between my life during strong depressions episodes and Chojis behavior during his. And I like, despite everything that happens, his feelings was not unvalidated. he wasn't told he was an evil person, or his feelings of sadness and emptiness were something unvalid. He just needed helf and actual propers support from other people to start feeling better and change his behavior. Umemiya may look a little bit like a doof, a silly man - but just for the first 10 episodes we can tell he just. Knows a lot actually. He KNEW that Sakura is coming to town and wants to go to furin and he was wandering what type of person he is, and because of that he actually puts Hiragi on watch over him (Hiragi mentioned that it was Ume who wanted him to take Sakura and Sugi on patrol so they do not fight and Sakura will be observed), he also already knew that something was wrong with Shishitoren and the problem probably lays with Choji. Whatever Umemiya may seems like, his informations web is working very good and he really is oriented in what happens in his city. He not only works on city being protected physically, but also cares about knowing what is going on and what POTENTIAL threats may be there. Like Sakura is just a one 15/16 yo guy and Umemiya already wanted to know if he may be dangerous to the city or not. He really works hard when it comes to being a protector af a city and people that lives there. I love how there is a lot of Ume and Kotoha parallels in what they are saying to Sakura and Sakura notices it himself - that they have a similar views and opinions and what Ume says to him coincides with what Kotoha said to him before. That shows they really are close and are from the same place and it makes more believable that they are adopted siblings from the same orphanage. And from my perspective Sakura trusts Kotohas words and Umemiya saying something similar to Kotoha makes him trust Umemiya more and took his words to heart. I also think that Sakura develops some form of a inferiority complex to Umemiya? Or something like that. Especially when during the choosing of Grade Capitan he thinks it should be someone like Umemiya and does not decide to vote for himself, like he is not good enough for this rank because he is not similar to Ume. When, just like you mentioned, if it would be Sakura from his first day in town he would voluntarily apply himself for being the Grade Capitan, that goes without saying. And now he didn't even considered himself for this position. I like how you noticed that Suo does not eat anything. I also like how consequent the anime is on this part, because in manga to this point it's the same, he only drank water/coffee/tea. And literally the only person who ever commented anything on it was Nirei, and Suo said that he is on diet lmao. He could at least elaborate more on what this "diet" means lmao because it could really be anything, like fasting, eating only a certain specific foods, having a diet to lose/not gain weight or straight up ANYTHING or could he be lying like. Suo WHAT DID YOU MEAN BY THAT. AND WHY IS NOT ANYONE NOTICING It's cool how Umemiya sayis his favourite food is Omurise (omlette rice) and its the food that Kotoha like serving. It's so cute I'm sooooo happy that you like Kiryu! He is definitely one of my favourite characters in Windbreaker, in top5 together with Togame, Suo and Kaji (the boy with headphones). I really love how many observations and theories you have about him just from the one episode with him, and that you find him interesting, because I do, too! I love his look and behavior and him in general and can't wait for you to meet him more. I love nonbinary Kiryu theory, it's so cool! Funny, as an nonbinary person I actually relate a lot with him and his.... I do not how to call it, gender presentation? Because there is definitely something gender-nonconforming about how he presents himself with both his looks, how he speaks and his demeanor in general. He also seems comfortable with behaving this way and looking this way. I also had a pink hair at some point of my life which leads me to love him even more! Pink hair and piercing buddies we are! Him commenting on the guys muscles was so funny like. I could inagine just going to the restaurant/local and then guy comes to take the order and I'm like. Omg what a muscles you have o.o. I can not not respect him on that, that some shameless behavior fr. What I like about Kiryu is that he seems a little bit like breaking some of a character archetype? Like in most battle shonens or series in general there is a character of womenizer or just generally flirtatious man character. And it seems like it COULD be Kiryu, especially after Nirei mentioned that he is popular with girls and we literally saw him with a girl, but he... didn't really behave like that? He is nice, but in any was he was flirtatious with this girl. He helped her and all and tried to protect her, and he could easly flirt with her, or just straight up complement her in any way (even just to cheer her up), but... he didn't? He could also aks for her number or give her his number himself, but he didn't even suggest it in any way (but he straight up asked for Sakura's contact info, lmaoooo). Kiryu seems to be real respectful towards her! Also, when he fought the guys, he didn't really hurt anybody, he used flat palms to push the guys insetad of beating them and really focused on blocking the fight from the people on the back (where the girl and Nirei were). When he rescued the girl he also didn't beat the guy to a pulp (he could), he just overpowered him and took the girl away from him. Dude wasn't really badly beaten up when he appers in front of a Muscle Power, so Kiryu definitely didn't do much harm to him before. The chapter when Tsugeura and Kiryu appears in a manga is named "Gentle and Muscle" and Kiryu, from this episode alone, really looks like a gentle soul. Fun trivia fact - Enomoto, the dude with weirdly shaved eyebrows and kind of old-deliquent(?) look is a fan of Ken Takakura the actor, the same one Momo from Dandadan is fan of! It's not a spoiler because it's not anything in the story, it was just mentioned as a trivia in some additional pages of the first volumes lmao. I think it explains his style lmao. Tsugeura's name, Taiga, is a popular name in m&a and it's literally japanification of the word Tiger, so Tsuge is just named. Tiger. But how it's written means large river, when Tsuge is his name means mulberry. When it comes to Kiryu, the Ki in his name means empress tree. Aaaaand here comes the Ren Kaji! I'm so exited!

Happy new year, Romania! Hope you had a good holiday! Of course you can multi-ship, I think this show was made for it because Sakura is shipped with nearly everyone. Suo, Nirei, Kiryu, Tsugi, Togame, Kotoha, even with Umemiya. And a lot more. He's very shippable! But the Sakura x Togame ship seemed to stick with me the most, luckily Togame could come back eventually. I also do see the Suo x Sakura ship, but personally it's Suo x Nirei for me. They are just very cute! Shipping aside, you met Kiryu and Tsuge! They're both such good beans. Tsuge is a whirlwind of positivity and Kiryu is the cutesy relaxed type, but what's interesting about Kiryu is how serious he can get about certain things like how loud Tsuge was being and startling the girl. It's interesting to think of why that is.

So glad we get to meet more beans! 🧡🩷 Yes, loved those comments about the theatre or bank manager, so funny to me that that word is used for both of those… maybe because banks are all fakery, too? 😆 I will just take my anti-capitalist ass out of here. 🤣 Also, that sounds like an amazing approach to a class, I really enjoyed hearing about it. I recently listened to a podcast from a psychiatrist (Dr Kirk Honda) who was referencing potentially the same books (or just a similar concept), but there the point was having two sets of students, within a class studying some psychiatry or therapy module, use this exercise to help them become aware of their own potential biases and how that could influence their approach to patients. Various moments I loved: All the blushy Sakura we get this episode Tsuge not getting any rest on the innuendo train 🤣 “My brain only has capacity for anime character names, not real people names.” 😆 Same, sorry, human beings. Really love the performance of Kiryu's VAs both in sub and dub (which is also excellent, btw) Kiryu and Tsuge get such nice introductions, I feel. And agreed, loved Tsuge being so receptive to Kiryu’s feedback. Also, how both wide-ranging and very-particular the things are which Tsuge seems to accept within the definition of “virtues”: from ‘keeping track of information’ to ‘staying silent’ to ‘not carelessly scaring people’, etcetc. 😆 Your note regarding that character in JJK, I think it actually encapsulates really well the difference between the style of shounen writing elsewhere vs the Wind Breaker approach. Cannot wait for next week! 🌸

They're all so freaking cute, I swear. I love that finally get to meet these two guys who looked so unique from the beginning. They're all so different, and I can't wait to see how their personalities mix and blend. Kyriuu turned out to be very different than what I was expecting. He is much more laid back, and maybe even a little lazy than I was expecting for his character, but it does match him well. He cares, as demonstrated by him rescuing that girl, but the way he speaks, and the fact he was too focused on his game too pay attention to Sakura tell me he really doesn't bother to spend energy unless necessary. Which makes him a good contrast to Suge. Sakura getting friends is adorable always; and now he even has their phone numbers. He is such a precious bean!

This is probably something that I really loved about Kiryu's character when I read WB for the first time! That from his look and first demeanor I expected someone's with a different personality that who we actually got and I think thats awesome.

Thank you for the reaction and happy new year! wow the todori leader info is cool! i didn't watch the Japanese reactions for winbre so i didn't realize it was significant but it's interesting that it links to their theatre setting Sakura still feeling the beating from the day before ouch, but hey at least nothing got broken I like that Sakura is still dwelling on what Umemiya said, even near the end of the ep when they were picking class captain and he thought of Umemiya at the top... Blushy Sakura is so adorable! Did you know someone made a compilation vid of all the times Sakura blushed in season 1 and it was more than 8 minutes long? it was also cute how Nirei and Suo came up to him while he was in his own little world lol The cat got shooketh! and his ears were all red Sakura couldn't handle the attention 😂 Romania!! not the white stuff in the bottle and the banana fgijvjkfvcdfk now I can't unsee...🫣 Introducing Tsugeura! someone who would do well in mob psycho's body improvement club! I will call him Tsuge because it's easier to remember... That poor window frame must be really strong for him to continuously use it as a pull up bar... I like how Nirei is so excited and friendly with Tsuge instead of feeling intimidated! they are both enthusiastic interrogators after all Suo (and the class sans Nirei) are so done with Tsuge 😅 I wonder when was Suo asked that question about his virtue. On the first day of school before Sakura and Nirei arrived? before school started? even earlier? he's such a mystery... I found it funny how Sakura and Suo were both so done with Tsuge but when Sakura asked if Tsuge was strong, Suo immediately locked in with the eyes blinked back open lol yeah that jjk character... I mentioned it in on discord too but i like tsuge's question better because while it still reveals how someone lives their life and what values they have, it has less assumptions on whether they have an attraction to someone + Tsuge explains his reasoning and is shown to be open to a wide range of answers, like Nirei's notebook or just staying silent as mentioned later Sugi having the funniest face lmaooo - going to sleep, not a morning person 😂 Nirei is the sunshine of the Furin trio lol, Suo did not want to be there, Sakura blushing again, maybe Sakura was curious but didn't want to admit it hmm Sakura can't handle the romance, look at him steaming with his hair strands all frazzled 😂🥰 Interesting analysis between Tsuge who consumes protein and works out his muscles vs Suo who diets and prefers to conserves energy, I didn't catch this comparison before... Tsuge's VA is Kengo Kawanishi! He voiced Rei from March comes in like a lion, Muichirou from demon slayer, hoshina from kaiju no.8, hashida from blue period, yahaba from haikyuu. Kiryu is voiced by Toshiyuki Toyonaga who voiced Yuuri Katsuki from Yuri on ice, Cheng Xiaoshi from the Japanese dub of Link Click, Haiji from Run with the Wind, Mikado from Durarara, Kazuki from Buddy Daddies, Tanizaki from Bungou Stray Dogs, Asahi Shiina from Free, Shirabu from Haikyuu, Lahan from apothecary diaries For my impression of Kiryu! I like Kiryu's design with the piercings and hair clips and pink hair and colorful shirt... I really liked Kiryu's voice cuz it's so playful and light, but not the usual baby cutesy way. It's kind of a softer lilting tone? the way he told Tsuge to stop in that soft but threatening voice was so good Kiryu is very vibey and casual but yeah not the type to bring a girl to this sort of restaurant lmao I agree that Kiryu is very individualized while being aware of how he looks to others, but he does what he wants and has his own priorities lol In hindsight, if you look at how Kiryu and the girl were sitting, it shows he's pretty considerate to her and wants to assure her that he is is unthreatening. He took a seat at the same table as her but diagonally across, so he is not directly beside her or confronting her face-to-face. the comment on how ripped the server is could be both just kiryu being kiryu but also a way to show that he is not interested in her the way those other guys were and he does not comment on her looks. nirei is in heaven this ep lol so many of these strong guys from his notebook are in one place before him meanwhile Tsuge can't read the room and just straight up embarrassed Sakura But thankfully Tsuge is pretty sensitive and not trying to scare others so he backed off awww Thugs from the thug factory has arrived! the music stopping when Tsuge interrupted Kiryu with his enthusiasm lmao If this wasn't an anime that poor thug would have had a broken neck with Tsuge's suplex lol Sakura the ragebaiter calling everyone he dislikes lame 😂 i really like that part where kiryu launched a thug at Sakura and Sakura immediately kicked the thug down lol yeah basically Kiryu was holding back not because he was enjoying the fight but because he was preoccupied with preventing others from going to the area with Nirei and the girl. But don't worry! Suo the chill guy is here! i love that Suo line: "not my fault, I'm just a chill guy." that circular flip move was so cool yep that motto was said in ep1 and it's also displayed on the board at the gate of the town Tsuge was too loud 😅, but he looked so happy and proud to shout it yeah everyone here is a first year. since they're from the same class as Sakura, they are all in first year. and the three who shows up in the end are second years. Sakura feeling more and more comfortable with his classmates aww poor Sakura is unfamiliar with communication and using his phone... he only has weather as the contact awww :( they laughed about it but poor guy... 😭 it's cute that Kotoha voluntarily added her phone number to his contacts lol, Sakura wouldn't be the type to initiate this sort of things (especially considering how bad he is with texting lol) sometimes chat conversations move too fast and idk how to respond at the time and then i never respond lol The rolling r's made Enomoto so memorable! i agree it's nice to eat local when I travel! same logic as yours, for many chain restaurants, you can get the same food at your home city too... I think the only time i eat at chain restaurants when I travel is if none of the locals stores are open. I've wanted to try okonomiyaki but it feels too much for 1 person to eat... yeah Sakura is already changing compared to ep 1! he really took Umemiya's words and the Shishitoren fight to heart...

Hahaha, you had me at anti-capitalism! 😛 That strategy of studying from two different perspectives to show how potential bias can form is so interesting as well! *takes notes* Sakura being blushy will always be wonderful. Tsuge gets no rest - and that innuendo train is a strong one! Humans are second, characters first in my brain space! 😛 I am looking forward to eventually getting to the dub for this show – once season 2 is over and I’m desperate for more content! XD I love the new characters we got this episode and it has me really hyped for meeting more of Bufurin! And yessss, give us variation in the Shonen formula - I’m glad the modern run of series have come great variations, overall! Thanks again and SO excited for episode 12!

I love this cast of characters so much, yes!! I’m glad we went back to the guys from the earlier episodes - it was going to bug me if we didn’t get anything more with them this season! I definitely got a “Murisakibara” from KNB vibe with Kiryuu! Maybe it’s the pastel hair, hahaha!! And any orange-haired character has to be a sunshine character, right?! 😀 Awww, and yes, Sakura making friends! Whoohoo! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

It’s totally okay! I’m so sorry you had the flu - that sucks! I hope you are feeling better! Togame is such a great character and I really enjoyed the episodes for the last arc with them! I love your talk about the wins for Bofurin vs. Shishitoren. That was great! I really like both Choji and Sakura with Togame! Who wouldn’t have a crush on Togame? But yes, multishipping is so tempting with this series! Loved the anko bun symbolism you talked about as well! Thank you for that and the perspective with your diagnosis of Choji. I’m fascinated with the mystery with Umemiya and will look forward to talking about him and the nuggets of information we’re given on them. You can also really tell Ume and Kotoha are sibling coded with how they both are able to notice things with Sakura so easily. And that is cute with Ume’s favorite food being the Omurise as well. I think Sakura has an inferiority complex with EVERYONE and not just Ume from the start – but I’ve talked about that in the discussion and will likely more in the future as we go. Kiryuu is so fun! That’s awesome about being nonbinary – I really like how Kiryuu blends so much together to not be gender-conforming; it’s great! The way the fights in this episode were done was also so great, too! Tsugeura’s name connecting to tiger and mulberry makes so much sense! I am really excited for the episodes with them to come! Thank you for the comment and all the kind words!

well I got over flu, but also got some infection after that so I'm still a little bit ill :x I do agree with Sakuras inferiority complex toward everyone - but what I meant is that I think Sakura when he came to town for the first time he didn't really think much about who Umemiya is and why he is leader of furin. But after observing him and meeting him he developed more of this mentioned inferiority complex because he understood he is nothing like Umemiya (in Sakura's mind) and after putting thought into Kotoha's words (about Sakura not becoming the leader of Furin because he is alone) he thought there is no possibility for him to detronize Ume/being a leader even for his own class (even if he still declares that he wan't to be on top). I hope I explained clearly what is on my mind there, it just hard to explain for me in foreign language.

Happy New Year! Sorry this took so long to get back to! Sakura definitely seems like the type to dwell on what people tell him - he’s more observant and reflective than he lets on. And 8 MINUTES of blushing! Ahhh I love it! We are never going to unsee Tsuga’s banana…juice. 😛 THE MOB PSYCHO BODY IMPROVEMENT CLUB! OH MY GOSH YES! That’s perfect! Suo is such a mystery indeed! I agree, in comparison to Todo, I like his question better! I just need Suo to eat healthy in front of me. Sugi’s sleepy face is ADORABLE. I love it so much! Nirei is the sun and Suo is the moon for Sakura! <3 Love it! That’s so cool to know that REI is voiced by Tsuge’s VA – what a chameleon!! And Kiryuu’s VA is so great, too! Thank you for the information! Kiryuu’s design is so fun! I love it! I also love how considerate he is to the girl in this episode. SAKURA A RAGE BAITER HAHAHA - I love it. The whole fight and choreography was so good and like Umemiya noted, really “speaks” to how they fight! Love how they brought the motto back - felt appropriate as we’re nearing the end of the season. And yessss, the rolling r’s is so iconic for Enomoto. Local cuisine = Choice! Okonomiyaki sounds so intriguing! And yes, love the growth our blushy cat is experiencing! Thank you for the comment! Kiryuu is so considerate yeah, I honestly like how there's none of that "perverted" character archetype in Sakura's class it's funny that Sakura ragebaits others but then gets ragebaited too haha I agree! the reminder of the motto near the end of the season, but now you know what furin is about, so it hits harder onward to ep 12! (and then ep 13 by the time you see this probably hahaha)
