Higuruma is here! He is so fascinating from the moment he shows up. Yes! Gege didn't want to leave us Nanami-less for too long, and gave us Higuruma xD Of course, Higuruma is significantly crazier than Nanami, and older, but it still feels nice to see this fine man in my screen. The whole section with Higuruma's past was so good. They really made me feel, and understand Higuruma in a few short minutes; and that's going to make the upcoming fight so much more interesting. Megumi's face when he realizes that Remi did in fact lie to him is amazing. He really looks ready to fulfill his promise to her, and live up to the full potential of being a Zen'in Lol. He looks terrifying, though. Middle school Yuuji beating up bullies to match Megumi's beating up people that are jerks is one really fun dynamic to have. Because they certainly needed more things to bond over.

JJK’s just hitting it out of the park every episode. I love Higuruma's character so far, and learning domain expansion in what a week and a half, presumably without much assistance is crazy. As for Reggie and his theories, I think he's probably an ancient sorcerer since he seems to know Kenny. Though, since he likes receipts so much, how ancient is kinda up in the air. Maybe he's from the 1950s, afterall Kenny said he's been doing this the entire time. Regardless, the points Reggie made were good, and it feels right storytelling-wise that we don't know the entire plan yet. However, I think it still has to involve wanting to use Tengen, or else their history with Tengen doesn't really make sense. The question is what could Tengen's weird state of being be used for if not assimilation, and is this connected to Yuji and Sukuna in any way?

Cheesecake anyone? 😆 I am ENTHRALLED with the Rule of 8! Yessss, Gege really had something- or rather someone for all the widows from the last season lmaooo. Your honor.. i UNDERSTAND 😍❤️‍🔥 *Ahem* So this ep we dive into the whole Justice system in Japan. And the case we walked through was rather interesting. It definitely tickled my obsession with the law and order kind of characters. I will admit. I have seen Higuruma in passing with edits from mutuals last year so I was spoiled 😭 (I'm anime only, still am) luckily I only knew what he looked like and that’s it. Glad that you’ve been safe thus far! But yeah… it was definitely love at first sight 🤣 I kept waiting patiently and now we are here! The sexy Tengen cosplay was a FANTASTIC timing haha. You look amazing! I don't do makeup but I'm sure applying eye liner can be tricky. Especially for a specific look but it looks really cool. (Side note. Knowing that you’ll be traveling soon I wish you and your team the best! Spring is kicking back up indeed) So yeah, ep 8 introduces us to some new characters (Shimizu & Higuruma) with a case involving Oe and it’s soo sad that we couldn’t win all 3 trials and he was found guilty in the end. To be sentenced for life was so brutal. I like that you bring up the differences of the legal justice system here in the states. The complexity & nuances can be discussed in length that could go on for daysss- sorry I'm not a criminal major professional or student. 😭 So that makes two of us. But I have been in court and it's difficult to have a legal consultation when you don't have resources like that. Even public defense attorneys have fees attached to them so technically... they are not directly charging you. I can't really speak for other states since there are minor differences. Oof it's giving me a headache to recall. Also, thanks for sharing your experiences. I'm so sorry for the boys in the car accident. One faced punishment and the other lost their life. 😕 many condolences to their family. It's triggering to hear people say "oh but the sentence will ruin their future." Or "they were young, it's not fair." And they may have a point. What resulted from the accident is unfair but the convicted is alive. The other is no longer here. To let the other walk away with no accountability is BAFFLING. This is getting me riled up so I'll stop there. With that said... I would not mind having more cases Higuruma has taken. 😆 a spinoff Gege? Please hear my prayers 🥹 If anyone is studying or under law profession in Japan or USA I'd also love to hear your thoughts! I find the information so interesting- especially into the context of this episode. Later on, we see the frustration and mental state has taken a real toll after a long while. And it makes sense considering how much he’s been let down. It finally scattered Higuruma's marbles. 😔 Yk, I think he does in fact believed the innocence of his clients. Maybe not every case but for Oe i think he did. That look back as he's convicted at Higuruma would HAUNT me for the rest of my life. I figured he would object to the verdict but not like THAT. (With his curse technique being activated) That does beg the question. Where is Shimizu is at now.. maybe something happened to her that contributed to him snapping. Not a fan of the theory of her possibly being on ice. 😭 She's such a fantastic addition that it'd be a real shame. She had Higuruma's back through and through. Also if you look through the episode again with her asleep in the office with him... notice she's got a coat drapped over her.. and who's without one. They're such a cute and wholesome pair! I do ship them a bit as well. They could have raised the little kitty together 🥺I don’t even think we got a name for the little one. Poor thing is probably alone and scared. Speaking of ships.... *sigh* I HAD been hoping to spark the idea of Higuruma and Nanami in your head as well as Annie's head haha. I don’t consider them a crack ship xd but it’s definitely a rare pair. Nanami & Higuruma was not a pair that occurred me on my own but once I was told. Immediately sold! In the discord I was planning to ease it in but trukk spilled the beans 😭 the fanart of them fully making out was not the first impression I was planning to share but hey- why not start off strong. 😆welp. But now that the cat's out of the bad I'll share art sporadically that I had saved. It's okay if I'm the only one behind this ship 🤣 no one has supported my vision. There's sooo much more I want to say but I've already said a lot. Hopefully next episode we do see what the others are up to while Itadori and Megumi are in this dilemma. I have faith in our boys that things are gonna be okay. Itadori might be able to collect Higuruma’s marble by reminding what mattered. Why exactly he persevered for so long as he did. With that said- I’m excited for the next episode. Aside the amazing animation and direction of this episode, I LOVED the soundtrack for this episode. 🥰 In the beginning it felt like a different series almost and it was such a breath of fresh air in a way. I'm so happy to be back to current reactions. I've missed hearing your thoughts. I don't have time for the other shows but I will make some for JJK. This reaction/discussion has been a delightful weekend treat. P.S. Papananami with Yuji came into mind when you said he should spread his wisdom to Higuruma... why not attain another papa? HAHA- just a food for thought. Anyway, please take care and have a lovely week Romania! Wishing you the best ❤️

Hi Romania! I'm glad you've met my #3 favorite character from JJK! Your reaction to him just opening a domain was golden! He's had his powers for what, not even all of two weeks? That's incredible! Now, I do want to give some perspective on his flashback. (Now I am not a lawyer myself, but a college friend is, and he's given me a passive interest into things.) Speaking without judgment, Japan's criminal justice system will rub we Americans the wrong way. First, there are no jury trials there like there are in the US; let alone compulsory jury trials for criminal proceedings. Jury trials are really only common in Common Law countries (cf the map I posted on Discord), and even there they're partially or completely phased out in some countries. Second, and completely unique to the US, barring rare exceptions involving jury tampering, a jury's not guilty verdict *cannot* be appealed. It doesn't matter if the defendant confesses to it the next day, the verdict is the verdict. These lead to a federal/state combined conviction rate somewhere around 80%, compared to the 99.9% mentioned in the episode. Now, I think we're being led to believe that this rate is the result of corruption; and I won't discount there might be some. But the only way to achieve a near perfect conviction rate is by dropping cases that aren't "sure things". They never even go trial. If I were in Higuruma's shoes knowing that it's all but hopeless, I would be destroyed. For that, I admire his perseverance. But he definitely finally cracked st the end. Finally, I do think Gege has an issue with Japan's criminal justice system, and he was partially using Higuruma as a means to criticize it. I'm betting any prosecutors watching JJK are grinding their teeth.

Starting with the OP shocked me too, but I was so glad that the 'Skip Intro' button has returned 😅 Your thoughts as we were seeing Higuruma as a lawyer matched mine: he seems so fair, so what happened that resulted in him killing people to gain 100 points in the Culling Game. But the moment I started learning more about him my first thought was: "Oh, Romania and Nicolas are gonna simp over him!" He really is like dark-haired Nanami 🥺 Just while he is a little jaded about life/society in general, Higuruma seemed to have a little hope that justice would prevail for Oe. Whereas Nanami in his salaryman era mindset was a lot more hopeless. The moment Shimizu said her thoughts out loud I loved her 😆 She seems like a pretty awesome assistant and I hope we get to see more of her. When the long-haired woman was asking Higuruma about his own mental state, something about his stare made me think of Itadori when he was telling Hakari he's a cog. Defence lawyer Higuruma was a cog in the justice system. Only it was a system that was unfair to some parties. I don't know too much about Japanese courts but I do adore Akutami for branching out and providing this kind of commentary on the justice system by specifically choosing his character to be on the side of the defence and not with the prosecution. Your repetitive "Right?!" in higher and higher tones in regards to you saying Itadori and Higuruma should be best friends because of the commonality that drives them is exactly how I was feeling this episode. All I could think was Itadori and this-Higuruma could get along so well. But the issue is is that Culling Game Higuruma is an unknown piece to me. We don't know who or why he killed the people he did to accumulate 100 points already, and so we can't know if the outcome from Oe's second trial changed him so much that now Itadori and Higuruma won't get along. Add to him pulling out a frigging Domain Expansion at the end of the episode and I am absolutely terrified for Itadori. But as terrified as I am for Higuruma's Cursed Technique/Domain Expansion, his creepy Lady of Justice has a pretty awesome design. I especially love the eyes being stitched closed, rather than blindfolded. I said it in the discord behind spoiler tags as I was watching the episode, but seeing Itadori beat up those high school bullies as a middle schooler made me think back to Fushiguro's past and him just casually taking out all the bullies in his school and then sitting on them in a pile like a throne 😂 But getting to see this glimpse of Itadori's past before he entered high school (and met Fushiguro and Gojo) just further cements the idea that he'd get along with defence lawyer Higuruma. Amai doesn't close his eyes to what's happening with the kid getting bullied, but he thinks it's best to stick with the status quo and the idea of keeping your head down and surviving however you can. Itadori's sense of justice, however, makes him act and be unwilling to turn a blind eye to such wrongdoing. Just as Higuruma was unwilling to turn down helping those innocents charged with a crime. With how theatrical Higuruma is on that stage I can completely understand why they'd have Sugita Tomokazu voice him. He can do quirky, sarcasm, serious, and jokey, and make it hard to tell which it is because of his line delivery and intonation. The red lighting behind Itadori in the theatre was giving me not-so-good flashbacks to Sukuna's epic battle with Mahoraga 😬 But it really adds that extra level of tension and worry to Itadori's conversation with Higuruma. And I feel having Reggie and Fushiguro's conversation happening at the same time helps ramp up that tension with the realisation that Tengen's belief for Kenjaku's plan with the Culling Game may be just one of their fallback plans. And as such we remain in the dark about what Kenjaku's actual desired outcome from creating these Culling Game could be. I have to be forthright. In that scene of Higuruma stepping out of the tub and walking down the steps of the stage I had two feelings: fear/worry for Itadori; and feeling unpleasant at the thought of how walking in sodden clothes and with your socks squelching like that would be 😂 The "Oh no, he's hot! 😩" made me giggle. Higuruma already having a Domain Expansion completely ups the ante 😨 They really did a good job at surprising us with that moment. It's left me equal parts intrigued and fearful, because those bloodied guillotines are quite a cool concept, but I don't want anything more to happen to Itadori 🥺 Completely agree that there needs to be all the Higuruma cosplayers now 🤩 Though your mention about them hitting their gavels, I do wonder if a gavel would come under as a prop you're not allowed to bring in to certain exhibition centres (because it could be used as a weapon). And that thought then led me down two paths: 1) cosplayers copying Kugisaki from the Exchange Event in Season 1 with her squeaky hammer, or 2) making a gavel from foam and then borrowing from Monty Python and the Holy Grail to use coconuts or something to create the clacking sound

I am so excited that Higuruma is here! And yes, a crazier, older and slightly more unhinged replacement for Nanamiiiin! Yeah, the way we got the backstory was so good! Megumi was SO MAD when he realized that he’s not reunited with Yuuji and has been lied to AND is ….with Reggie of all people. Heeeey, if only Megumi could see that Yuuji has so much in common with him! Thank you for the comment! I’m SO fascinated to see where this is going!

JJK is really just nailing these episodes! Higuruma is SO enthralling so far! And yeah…already knowing a domain expansion is WILD! About as wild as Reggie, haha!! I’m assuming Reggie might be an ancient sorcerer, but I don’t want to speculate too far in the comments beyond my discussion - We’ll see what the show gives us and if my theories hold true or not. Thanks for the comment!

Right?! Bust out the cheesecake! The Rule of 8 does not let us down! Thank you for the kind words! OH, I’m not someone that wears makeup a lot either, so there was SO much eye liner and white makeup caked on my face - I’m glad you all liked it! And thank you for the well wishes for our team! I am with you on loving Higuruma instantly! I can definitely agree that without having proper legal representation, it can make things so hard - I know family of friends who have been in that situation and it’s not fun at all. So I’m glad you shared your perspective on that and sorry you had to deal with such situations. There is seriously so much you could go into about it, though! And yeah, I didn’t know if I should mention that one story, but it riles me up too – as someone that’s seen a lot of people die to drunk drivers; it’s really sad. But in any case – Can we have Higuruma and Shimizu prequel series, please? You can tell that Higuruma was haunted by that stare, though, and it pushed him over the edge! I am afraid that something happened with Shimizu, so I worry about that. I was shipping her with him so badly - Gege, you wouldn’t do that to us, WOULD YOU GEGE?! *nervous laugh* Look, it’s not that I’m against HIguruma and Nanami – I just…don’t know if I can crack ship characters that have never met (I know, counterintuitive to the crack ship), eh? But I’m in support of those two meeting in an AU! XD I was supporting it in the Discord! I really hope that Itadori is able to reach Higuruma! And Megumi – I hope he can keep his cool amidst Reggie and Remi! This episode was so good! And the soundtrack was amazing! I’m glad to be back to this series as well! Thank you for the comment and the kind words! Have a great weekend, too!

Ooohhhh #3 you say?! Yay! Higuruma checks off all the boxes for a jujutsu sorcerer so well, he just dove right into domain expansions! Why not?! Yay for perspective!! Yeah, I was very floored by the differences in the legal system in Japan vs. the U.S. Thank you for sharing all of this! Yes, Higuruma was so noble in his fight, but I am not surprised he finally snapped under the weight of it all. And ooohhhh yes, I completely agree that Gege was saying to his editors, “Hey – we’re far enough into the series…can I critique the Japanese Justice System now?” Editors: “Uhm…..yes?” XD Thank you for the comment and info!

romaniablack

I’m glad the “skip intro” button is back as well! 😀 AHAHAHA – you know that I (and Nicholas) have a type! A man of justice jaded into madness? Sign me up! That is a fair point about Nanami being even more hopeless than Higuruma…maybe that’s why he DIDN’T snap! I hope that Shimizu isn’t dead (Gege, please no) and that we see her again! She was just so adorable! I agree, I feel Higuruma was aware of himself being a cog in the system – it’s that connection to Yuuji that has me like, “See! You two have so much in common! Now talk it out!” XD I’m glad Gege is like, “Time for social commentary! Don’t mind me!” Also, Gege likes pain, so of course he’d choose the defense. ;) I just need Yuuji to use the Care Bear stare on Higuruma! I’m with you, though - I am concerned that Higuruma killing so many may have resulted in him going too far to come back…I am very scared for Yuuji as well! I do love the design of it all, but it’s still very….concerning. RIGHT?! Megumi and Yuuji having surprisingly something in common! Aw! XD Amai definitely cements status as the coward that is complicit, which explains why he lets Yuuji go into the literal lion’s den with Higuruma, even though he probably knew he was crazy and dangerous. Sugita Tomokazu is also doing a GREAT job voice acting for him as well! I am VERY worried that just as Yuuji is about to make strides with Higuruma, that Sukuna will show up and things will go from bad to worse. Let’s hope not, though! And yeahhhh, Reggie bringing “the receipts” makes me curious – did Tengen not realize that Kenjaku had an alternative plan? Seems weird for a near-omnicient being to not realize that…or is Tengen totes okay sacrificing these sorcerers for their own gain? Hm. I guess we’ll find out? *nervous laughter intensifies* THE SQUELCHING SOCKS AHAHAHA That’s so funny! Honestly, Higuruma’s little walk down the stairs was so cartoonish that if it wasn’t so terrifying, I’d have found it hilarious. That tub scene of him getting out wasssss really good, though. I want Yuuji to be safe, but dang, the guillotines are a really cool design of the domain expansion - and fits the helplessness of the justice system as Higuruma sees it. I foresee the cosplayers having the squeaky hammers like with Nobara – imagine ALL The squeaky hammer domain expansions at once hahaha! But the Monty Python route would be HILARIOUS! Thank you for the comment!!
