Lin Ling gets to take a vacation, as we meet a new character: Yang Cheng! This young man has a tragic backstory, a tragic love life, and has a dream that may be on the fritz if he can't measure up! There's a LOT to examine with this one, as the "Everyone can be a hero" motif gets put to the test...and is leaving us a lot to think about!

HEHEH, a new character :D Yang Cheng my boyy^^ I think the difference between E-soul “copycats” and Lin Ling being “Nice.” Is like the difference between cosplayers/actors and impostors. Like Yang Cheng dresses up as E-soul for work, where he plays E-soul for kids. An actor. Maybe some kids think he’s the “real deal,” but at least all adults can immediately tell that it has to be an actor; the real one (probably) wouldn’t spend their days doing small plays for kids. And from what I have gathered, it’s a REALLY popular thing (in Japan at least, idk about China) to make plays for kids about different heroes. In that case, fictional heroes of course (super sentai etc), but I don’t think it necessarily would be that different in the TBHX universe. Entertain audience > audience support > trust value. Similar to the “E-soul competition” that Yang Cheng took part in. To me, it really just read as “official cosplay competition.” to create a positive relationship with the fandom through interactive events. But that’s just my two cents. The episode wans’t really all that clear with this worldbuilding, so I am assuming it is mirroring the IRL counterparts of these events and activities rather than creating anything new. But back to my boy Yang Cheng. I can’t even imagine what it would feel like to know that *no one trusts you* and having a PHYSICAL proof of it. It’s not just an insecurity, it’s a fact. So for him to feel extra scared to ask Xia Qing out, and feel really self-conscious next to some overachieving man, it’s so frustrating, but I would be the same if I were in his shoes. I have bad social anxiety, and I have a hard time inviting people to do anything with me. I mean, one of my goals for last year was to *ask* my university friends if they want to come over for dinner. I did not succeed at that. 2026 the charm tho XDDD So for that reason, I empathise with Yang Cheng in his insecurities of asking his crush out and chickening out several times. It’s so frustrating, even to me, to watch that, but it also hurts me because I can’t see myself in him. xDD But it’s what makes insecurities so scary; they make you second-guess and doubt yourself to the point of not seeing reality and facts properly. Love me that ANGST MUAHAHHAHAHCGX!!! Also, I'm way too BL-brained. Because when Shang Chao came out, all “I'm here for you, Yang Cheng,” my gaydar went off. But Yang Chneg likes Xia Qing... who seems to like him back. Hmm.. Oh well, this is why Yang Cheng has two arms !! Anyways, excited for next week :DD

Yang Cheng is such an interesting character, to be honest, and I'm so glad that we get to meet him now. The friendship between YC and Pomelo is so freaking adorable. If Pomelo already thought that YC was great, now he is going to have stars in his eyes every time he sees him xD It's very interesting to me that YC didn't have even one person who trusted in him (not even his uncle?) but when he got the ONE person to do it he got such a boost in strength. I wonder if the type of trust that people have in you matters for you to become a hero; because Ling Ling had people's trust before he became Nice or The Commoner, but he wasn't doing anything especial before that, not until people wanted him to defeat God's Eye did he became a hero as Lin Ling; and now, with YC, he got that sort of lightning in him from Pomelo trusting in him as E-Soul. It's just a very interesting system. The cat is out of the bag now, though, for YC thanks to Shang Chao - and how I laughed when Shang Chao turns around and tells YC that he isn't there for Xia Qing but for him - calling YC out infront of Xia Qing. Thank goodness at that too, because I don't know that I would have been able to take more of his scurrying around that fact x'D

Yang Cheng is so fascinating and I’m so into his character already! I was honestly just curious if folks were cosplaying as “Nice” and “acting” as him as well; it’s an interesting concept, if anything! It does become more curious with the fact that you can’t “tell” what E-Soul actually looks like, since he’s never taken his mask off, so that adds to it, like I talked in the discussion. That makes sense that it’s just a cosplay contest to stand alongside the “real” E-soul! And yes, we’re not getting all the world-building cemented, so it’s a lot of guessing on our part as the audience at this point. YES, the idea with YC that there’s PROOF no one believes in you? OUCH. I definitely can feel for him, even though I want to *gently* shake him. Thanks for sharing your story – I’m rooting for 2026 to be the charm! I work with a student on the team I coach who has really bad social anxiety as well, so I have been able to see how that struggle manifests in real life, so while I can’t quite relate, I can understand that it’s really hard in that situation. I hope you’re able to make it work in what way you want this year, though! And that makes total sense about the empathy with YC – but yeah, it hurts for sure! Hahaha, I think I understand why you love that angst! XD Oh NOW, are we putting Shang Xiao in the same boat with YC as Ivan and Till from Alien Stage? Hmmmmmmmm….WELLLLL…..hahaha, I guess we shall see! Thanks for the comment!! And for being patient while it took me forever to get to it!

It DOES feel like an appropriate break from Lin Ling to start the POV on a new character, especially one POTENTIALLY connected to LL. YC and Pomelo’s relationship was SO ADORABLE! I really loved how their dynamic was!! It’s so cute! It’s so sad that no one really trusted in him to the degree that it does with a superhero in that world. And yes, I wonder about that type of strength in the Trust Value as well! Yeah, the world building leaves us with a lot of questions! But yeah, now YC’s identity is out! I’m so excited to see where we go from here, so thank you for the comment!!
