I'm assuming, like last week, you'll watch ep 2 dubbed before the ep 3 reaction, so i'll answer your questions about Qifrey's accent here: no, he doesn't have a notable dialect difference in Japanese, but i'm sure you'll notice in episode 2 that he isn't the only character with a european accent in the dub! in general, witches seem to have varied accents so far, while Coco and the rest of the unknowing/common people have american accents. i've seen it mentioned (either as speculation, or something confirmed by the creators that i just haven't seen the source for) that this is purposefully done to make Coco feel all the more out-of-place in her new witch-y environment.

Other commenters can correct me if I'm wrong but I actually think the witch in the eye mask is intentionally androgynous? All of the official channels use they/them and watashi. It's funny you mentioned their vocal performance as they're actually voiced by women (doing a lower androgynous voice) in both the Japanese and English versions. This is in no way meant to be a callout, just a clarification so long as it doesn't count as spoilers.

Ahhh how I adore this series!! I love the worldbuilding and all the questions it presents as you learn more about the world they live in. I think what I adored most about this episode is how 'digestible' they made the explanation of magic. There was no extremely complicated dialogue or odd rules. It's easy enough to look at the basics and then go glance at the spells you see through out the episode and have some rough understanding on how they work. I also love how Coco is portrayed in this episode. The way you can see and feel the way she's both excited at achieving her dream but heartbroken over the accident that gave her the chance in the first place is really well done in my opinion.

This series is soooo great so far! The mystery with the world building has me VERY excited to see what answers we will get along the way - and YES, digestible is a great word for the worldbuilding throughout this series so far! And Coco’s emotional range is so relatable and makes me want to hug and root for her as a character! Thank you for the comment!

Oh yeah, I definitely think that the notion I have already made up my mind on the sex of the “Witch” speaker has influenced me, but hey – I could definitely be wrong! We shall see! Thank you for the comment!

I haven’t watched the second dub episode yet (I usually do juuuust before I sit down to watch the next sub episode) but I’m excited to hear all the accents and VA’s for the English dub! That is a neat note about it being to make her feel out of place, though! Thank you for the comment and I’m excited to see the dub for this series just as much as the regular version! 😀

I love the rivals plot line! I feel like this is going to a rivals to I would die for her vibe…at least that is what I am hoping. I love the idea of magic in this world. I adore all the personality in this house.i adore how comfortable they show Quifrey in his home (eye candy is appreciated.) Coco is so cute.
