One other thing about thing about the shadows is the other clan leaders were seated in the hot sun, while the Wen Clan leaders were cool in the shadows. Wen Ning is just best boy. Thankfully we will get more of him later.

Not all cultivators belong to clans. Clan leaders and their families are sorta like royalty, and clan members are like subjects in their kingdoms, but not everyone who can cultivate belongs to one of these "cultivation kingdoms."

Oooh, okay, that helps! Thank you! I got the "royalty" sense of the clan leaders and their members being like subjects, but didn't realize that cultivators can be outside the clans...I guess like WuXian, then (though he's "technically" part of the Jiang clan)? Thank you for the information!

Of course! But Wei Wuxian is part of Jiang Clan, a servant being treated like royalty. And, seemingly being treated better than the crown prince - Jiang Cheng - on top of being more skilled. That's why people target that when trying to insult Jiang Cheng since it's not just hurtful, it's also disgraceful.

Ahhh, considering the "servant" position WuXian is supposed to have, that makes a lot more sense! And poor Cheng -- I feel he's just being tugged around in all this! T_T

I'm only half way through your reaction so I don't know if you figure this out, but the reason why lan wangji freaked out when wei wuxian touched his forehead ribbon was because only your sworn lover is allowed to touch said forehead ribbon. Meaning wei wuxian touching it also conveyed he was lan wangji's 'fated partner.'
