Hey all!

To celebrate reaching a sub goal on YouTube, I wanted to watch something, but am not sure what!

I'm thinking it might be fun to watch something...controversial? Wild? Bat-S*** Crazy? Romantic (BL or otherwise)? ALL OF THE ABOVE?!

I'm thinking a movie or OVA (1 or 2-parts only) that is a stand alone thing (or has a manga/light novel it's based off of if anything). It could be anime, donghua, etc.

Any suggestions? I figured I'd leave this open for a week to see what you all thought! Thanks for all the support and kindness! ❤

Here4thePlot

Congratulations for reaching the sub goal 🥳. I would recommend a chinese movie called "The yin-yang master: Dream of Eternity". It is a fantasy movie and it was pretty good and a fun watch. But it is not that crazy. It isn't a Bl but more like a bromance.

I love finding chaotic animated anime movies and OVAs. The Devilman OVAs from 1887 and 1990 are a trip. I'd fully recommend you watch them in the dub because it's even more chaotic. It doesn't go far into the story like the newer series so a lot of the more controversial aspects aren't here. But the BL is strong in this one at I'm sure you're expecting 😂 Saint⭐Onii-san is really good two episode OVA. I think you should go into this one blind if you know nothing about it. It's more bromance but it could be BL as well. Cipher The Video is a one episode OVA released 1989. This one was actually voiced in English in Japan. It might be a little too out there for a reaction, but I'm putting it here since it is one of the most crazy OVAs I've ever seen

Congratulations, I'm glad this channel is getting bigger as it's my favourite. I've recommended this before but perhaps Berserk? (Made in Abyss and Bakemonogatari would be great too). For movies maybe Sakasama no Patema (Patema Inverted), a lesser known but pretty great film. Or any ghibli films you haven't watched (a list would be nice). Congrats again.

May I recommend this CN donghua movie called 'Legend of Hei', you'll never regret watching! We have cute yet badass characters, awesome action scenes, deep thoughts, and even more to discover!

Let Ying

Kirepapa OVA 1 and 2. Not incest romantic comedy hot BL movie 😁

Edgar

i recommend sword of the stranger or vampire hunter D, cause im a simple man

Shizun

Congrats on reaching the sub goal! An anime movie I’d highly recommend is I Want To Eat Your Pancreas (Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai).

romaniablack

Thank you so much for the suggestion! I have seen A Silent Voice, but one day I do hope to re-watch it; I agree, it's SO good! :)

James

Definitely second made in abyss!

romaniablack

Thank you so much for the kind words! :) I'm unfortunately not looking for any movies tied to full-blown series like Made in Abyss or Berserk for this sub goal; I was wanting something more stand alone! :) But I have both of those series on my list to eventually poll and get to! :) Thank you for the movie recommendations! Definitely putting those down! :D

DangerZone

Congrats! Inferno cop is a series of shorts that you can find on youtube. It's the first work out of studio trigger, incredibly nonsensical and stupid but also really fun!

Toni simi

Congratulation! Nice to see that the channel keeps growing. I second Here4theplot on the movie "The yin-yang master: Dream of Eternity". It's a really fun watch. Nothing new but still fantastic.

Anna Kyruin

D + D Bloodlust, I love Yoshitaka Amano's character and costume designs

Zecxel

Hey, thanks for the reply. Just some extra movies I missed - Jin Rou and Sword of the Stranger are also excellent choices.

Kixkay

Congrats!!! Hmm I recommended a movie back on the discord server a while ago - it’s a donghua movie called Nezha. It’s on Netflix, but don’t be confused with Nezha Reborn cuz that’s a different movie which is also on Netflix. I also think Belle (a Hosoda anime movie - he did other anime movies like Boy & The Beast, Wolf Children, Summer Wars, etc…) would be a fun movie to react to as well, and I just love the soundtrack. This is the movie I’m like so fine with either the sub or dub bc the Japanese VA and the English dub VA sing the songs so beautifully!!

Jasmine

Congrats on the sub goal! Something you could watch is Natsu e no Tobira (The Doorway to Summer), it's based on a single volume manga by Takemiya Keiko. You could also check out the OVA for Kaze to Ki no Uta (The Song of Wind and Trees), it's based on a much longer manga by the same mangaka. I would consider both of them "proto-BL" and I definitely think they're controversial, though being classic shoujo they're not exactly exciting by modern standards. I personally have a lot of distaste for Takemiya and her work, but I think it's important if you care about the history of BL because she was incredibly influential in forming the foundation of what would later become the genre.

romaniablack

Ooohhh, thank you for the suggestion! :D And a bromance, you say! Interesting! :D Thank you so much for the kind words and recommendation!

romaniablack

Oooh, thank you for the recommendations! :D I'll put those down!

romaniablack

Oooh, nice! I like that they're back to back!

romaniablack

Thank you for the kind words! :) And for the recommendation! That's exciting! :D

romaniablack

Oooh, I know that name and that it's good! Thank you for the recommendation! :D

TK

Congratulations on the new milestone! :D Here are 2 movie recommendations, but they aren’t an anime/donghua, they are live action movies if you’re okay with that! To My Star (2021, 2h2m, Viki, Movie Version): it’s a Korean BL drama that was actually a series but there was only 10 episodes that are extremely short at 12 minutes per episode, so it was put together as a movie version and it just helps the story and everything just flow nicely! It’s a cute movie (: (But actually I believe a second season for it came out this year recently, so maybe it isn’t exactly stand-alone although the movie has a solid ending. Regardless whether this wouldn’t rlly qualify for a stand alone movie since it has a new season, I recommend this movie to you for maybe a future reaction or your own time :D ) And one of the best movies I’ve watched on Netflix: Your Name Engraved Herein ( 2020, 1h54m, Netflix) it’s a mature Taiwanese gay romance movie, and I feel like you would love it! It’s realism and story gets you in the feeeels.

Kuba Lutek

If you want all of the above, maybe you'd be interested in Berserk, 1997 anime is pretty great and the manga is fantastic.

romaniablack

Thank you for the suggestion! Berserk is on my list of anime series to poll and eventually watch and read for SURE! This was more for a stand alone movie/OVA! :)

killerqueen2000

The Night is Short, Walk on Girl. Super underrated movie because of the style (Yuasa who directed devilman crybaby) so sadly most ppl might not even have heard or seen it. Or maybe Paprika, another trippy, bat-S*** Crazy movie by Satoshi kon (Perfect blue). 3rd is the cowboy bebop movie i guess

Joseph Hallowell

Ping Pong The Animation! Only 11 episodes and REEEAAALY good. I think it's way easier to get into that other sports anime too!

Serralinda Creates Fun Things!

If you want something wild and crazy (and BL)...Yarichin Bitch Bu? It has 2 OVAs (so far) and it is based on a manga by Ogeretsu Tanaka, most well-known for the manga Escape Journey (it's really good, so you should read it someday). YBB is crack energy BL, scandalous and ridiculous but also kind of sweet here and there, lol.

Lynden

Shin Godzilla, a live action Godzilla movie by our favorite lunatic Hideaki Anno. Or for something actually animated, Ninja Scroll.

romaniablack

Ping Pong is definitely on my list of series to watch! :) :) Especially after this last poll!

romaniablack

Ahhh, welllll, funny you should mention Yarichin Bitch Club...because I sadly can't watch that for this sub goal...because I already have it slated to be one of the things I watch for this upcoming JanuYaoi 2023! *evil laugh* ^^ Your description has me SO EXCITED though!

jv

Maybe you could watch Hybrid Child (a 4 episode BL historical ova, each episode contains different couples in the same universe that made me ugly cry) or Hyperventilation (a 6 episodes Korean BL anime, depending on the website you watch, they could combine all 6 into a single episode of 21+ minutes). OR Yarichin Bitch Club, but you said in the comments that you would be watching it. Sooooo😏😏 Looking forward to it😎 EDIT - There is a romance vampire anime called Devils' Line. You could give it a watch in your free time if interested. It is a mature anime.

Anime Annie

Potentially fit 'wild' I'd recommend Bakemono no Ko/The Boy and the Beast; or Summer Wars; or Sarusuberi: Miss Hokusai. All are anime movies. Without spoiling the first is mostly set in the realm of the beasts; the second involves a gaming aspect; and the last is a historical drama focusing on Katsushika Ōi, the eldest daughter of the Japanese artist Hokusai [he painted works such as The Great Wave off Kanagawa].

Dani Danmei

Congratulations! I recommend L.O.R.D.: Legend of Ravaging Dynasties. It´s a Chinese computer animated motion capture action fantasy adventure film. It isn't a Bl but more like a bromance. I haven´t seen the two Movies yet, but I saw some Snippets and it looks good so far.

romaniablack

Oohhhh, thank you so much for these suggestions! :D I'm definitely putting them down! :D

romaniablack

Thank you so much for the recommendation! I've heard of that, so I'm intrigued! :)

romaniablack

Ooho, thank you so much for the recommendation!! :D :D

romaniablack

Ooohhh, thank you so much for the cool recommendation! I'll take note of that! :D

romaniablack

Thank you so much!! :D Ooohh, and thank you for the recommendations! I'll definitely put those on the list; especially Belle - I've wanted to see that one for a while! :D

romaniablack

Oohh thank you so much for the recommendation! I'll put that down! :D

romaniablack

Ooohhhh, thank you so much for the recommendations and that's interesting that you are suggesting them as "proto-BL" works that have "distasteful" elements but are a foundation for what would come later in the genre! That's SO fascinating!! Thank you for suggesting those!

romaniablack

Oohhh, thank you so much for the recommendations and for the kind words! I really appreciate it! :D :D

romaniablack

Oooh, I've heard of Paprika -- good to know it's by the same crew as Perfect Blue -- and the other movies are great recommendations; thank you! :D

romaniablack

Ooh, thank you for the recommendations! :D I'm adding to the list!

romaniablack

Thank you SO MUCH for the kind congratulations and recommendation! Adding it to my list! :D

romaniablack

Thank you so much for the recommendations and suggestions! I've seen Summer Wars, and it was good! I'll definitely add the others to my list! :)

romaniablack

Ooohhh, thank you for the suggestions on that one! Hahaha, ya'll are good at predicting, but Hyperventilation is also going to be one for JanuYaoi this coming year I'm going to do! :) I'm excited!!! But thank you for that and the other suggestions, especially Hybrid Child and Devils' Line! :) I appreciate it!

killerqueen2000

In some ways it is even more trippy than Perfect Blue. Lots of reality warping. it's an experience for sure hah

romaniablack

That's exciting! It's definitely on my list!
