Thanks for your reaction! Well, that's one reunion which nobody wanted in the first place. FX turns out to have had a relationship with LC who's also JL from 800 years ago. The name Jian Lan (literal translation being sword orchid )means gladiolus in English, also known as Chang Lan(literal translation being calamus orchid). So, we know where she got the idea of this name transformation from. And one interesting thing is the word Chang for calamus(菖) and prostitute(娼) shares the same sound although not the same CN character, which is super sad considering her history. The fetus spirit, Cuo-cuo, turns out to be at least 80% possible FX's son although his mother doesn't want to talk more about it. But the question of the culprit for his death remains. But MXTX just decided to put this plotline aside together with all the other unsolved problems such as LW and the brocade immortal, QYZ and his senior YY who's also 99% the wanning moon officer, the whereabouts of Black Water and SQX......no matter how tame the book cover seems to be, it's still tgcf: the mystery and cliffhanger all along. XL to HC: please don't tell JW I pawned his swords, pinky promise? JW by the tableside sipping tea and searching on google: #what to do when children start keeping secrets from parents? #how to deal with teenage rebellion that's 800 years late? #just found baby boy in bed with this punk in braids talking about the appearance of future child, is it already too late for father-son heart-to-heart conversation over sex education? If XL really takes the mission to run heaven as 'Temporary Heaven Emperor', I'm so sure HC would come along and happily sit next to the throne and become this Evil Emperess who commands on behalf of the fatuous Emperor, personally executing the "Off with his head" part every time some god goes against XL. Now if you'd excuse me, I'll go look up for fanfics ROFL

There's soooo much mystery, unresolved cliffhangers and plot lines, and MXTX constantly using it to remind us that, yes, we're just BARELY halfway through the story, y'all! :) Clearly, we can't judge the book by its cover. Thanks for the information about Jian Lan's name; that is FASCINATING and I love the subtle symbolism wordplay that MXTX gives us with that! :) I would LOVE to see Xie Lian trying to frantically make judgment calls in JW's position, while meanwhile HC as the "Evil Empress" has the immediate resolution of "Off with their heads," bwahaha! And this is more for anyone else commenting, but I had really liked the theorizing of JW being possibly in this love triangle with HC for XL's affections, but in the Discord and this comment, everyone talking about JW being a "father figure" to XL kind of spoils that mystery and theorizing a bit, so I was kind of bummed about that. Especially since I didn't really talk about it in the discussion -- I guess it's just one thing I won't have to worry about with the rest of the story, but I'll definitely have to address it in a future discussion. -_- Thanks for the comment and kind words!

I love Xie Lian says "is always offending people" about Mu Qing when he's the one currently listing an entire tweets' worth of negative opinions on Mu Qing 😂 Also Fu Yao commenting on all the heavenly officials that have fallen after Xie Lian investigated them, is very similar to Pei Ming's worries he voiced to Ling Wen. Yet another of Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's wonderous crumbs with Lan Chang's identity. The verbal barrage between Qi Rong and Lan Chang feels like such a schoolkids' fight. Cuo Cuo is definitely one of the harder Chinese names to pronounce. Also, Feng Xin has previously been shown and described to dislike being around women, yet upon recognising Lan Chang's previous identity he reaches out for her. Gotta love though that Qi Rong's kinda playing Maury in this moment with deciding who Cuo Cuo's biological father is. Love Xie Lian choosing Hua Cheng over stopping Qi Rong escaping 🥰 Hearing about Xie Lian talking about how Feng Xin remained devoted to him during his first banishment always pulls on my heartstrings. Also with how devoted he is to Xie Lian you can kind of see a glimpse of that same devotion in his interaction with Lan Chang and Cuo Cuo. Like you said he seems uncaring on if Cuo Cuo is his biologically or not. The only person Xie Lian wants to/feels able to talk to about his first banishment (which from the crumbs we've gotten so far sound painful and angsty as anything) is Hua Cheng 🥺🥰 Xie Lian reaching out to catch the red flower like he previously caught Hong Hong-er...and *still* he doesn't remember 😅 All hail Emperor Xianle? 😆 Though it seems not if Hua Cheng has anything to say about it. You've honestly done well to wait before but yeah these cliffhangers are just getting worse, so it's no wonder you want to read ahead. Romania! The song "It's a small world" is now playing in my head because of you 😑 Your Mordor comparison with Mount Tonglu is making me want Witch King Hua Cheng!

I didn't get to comment last week (i might comment on the youtube upload haha) but I just love how you get more and more flabbergasted (albeit in different ways) every week!! Love the reaction as per usual, soooo much to unpack in so many different areas. man, mxtx just loves to pile on the mystery. one thing I love is that apart from fu yao (or not?) there was a bit of a Xianle reunion this episode! we got the crown prince, the crown prince's cousin, bodyguard, almost concubine and of course little hong er! Qi Rong may be a wild one but he's right about it being a small world 😅 it reminds me of the wind master's comment way back in volume 2 after they find Qi Rong's identity where he's like damn green ghost's your cousin and Lang Qianqiu is your pupil?? Who DOESN'T xie lian know smh. As usual, can't wait for next week ❤️❤️

Each week with this series I DO get more and more shocked! It's crazy! And YES -- everything is all coming back full circle -- should be be surprised at this point?! But yes, apparently it IS a small world, or Xie Lian is a magnet for these people! And yessss, The Wind Master's prediction about Six Degrees of Xie Lian is so true, hahaha! Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! I can't wait for next week! :D :D

Everyone seems to love pointing out that Xie Lian has caused the downfall of so many heavenly officials…as they stand next to them! Hahahaha! And YES, MXTX just threading back together everything with Lan Chang – I love it! Lan Chang and Qi Rong’s quarrel sounds like the worst trashy family reunion parking lot brawl, haha! Oh yessss, I’ve been practicing and Cuo Cuo is really difficult! #practicemakesprogress I feel these chapters really say a lot about Feng Xin’s personality and his character – to decide that regardless if it’s TRULY his kid, he seems willing to take responsibility for him and Lan Chang –I hope they’re able to make up or have a happy(?)/Happier ending in all this craziness! That was so sweet that Xie Lian chose to stay behind and help Hua Cheng, too! The more we get of the backstory of Xie Lian immediately post his first banishment…the sadder it is. The fact that Xie Lian didn’t even NOTICE that Feng Xin could have had a love for someone else – really shows where XL’s focus was at that time and how he wasn’t even considering anyone other than himself. 🙁It hurts to see him tell Hua Cheng about that, but I so agree – the fact that he TRUSTS HC is so sweet, too! OMG, I didn’t make the connection of Xie Lian catching the flower like he caught HC – Oh my GOSSSSHHH – our poor oblivious cinnamon roll. And “Emperor Xianle” – yeah, I’m with HC, I can’t see it either! XD And yes, I’ve been good about not reading ahead, but now? I’m not sure I can hold back anymore! And so many references to Mordor that could happen…we’ll see where it goes, eh? 😛Thank you for the comment and kind words!
