Hey everyone!

We are approaching, sadly, the end of Vinland Saga season 2 this month!

To prepare, I want to take suggestions to replace it to put into a poll for Patreon! Please NO sports anime, slice of life, or romance series (I'll watch those, don't worry!).

I'm looking for a series you all think would be a GOOD replacement for Vinland Saga, aka a similar show, so I'm excited to see what you all recommend!

I'll keep recommendations open between now and Tuesday, June 6th!

Bi-monthly Berserk 1997 or Berserk manga shill here. Vinland saga was heavily inspired by berserk, especially the first arc. Both are great in their own right, and it’s interesting to see the parallels.

Toni simi

I only watched the first half of the first season of Vinland Saga so I can't say if it completely fits but I would say Children of the whales. It sadly only has one season but the manga ended this year.

Haseda Coringla

I’ll go for the obligatory Fate Zero recommendation, can’t wrong with it. Excellent show. Fits the same kind of action, character philosophy clash slot for replacing Vinland Saga.

Sunspots

For complexity of feelings and discussions - Berserk and Psycho-Pass.

Simo

Magi the labyrinth of magic could be a fun watch

NamelessMonster

Magi is a good one Simo, also I'd recommend Drifters I liked it myself.

NamelessMonster

On second thought Drifters is probably something to watch by yourself in your leisure rather than a reaction so I'll say Magi Labyrinth of Magic

Ica

Golden Kamuy! Like Vinland Saga, it's a seinen with a historical setting. Excellent story with a cast of some of the best written characters I've seen in a long time.

Edgar

Berserk is great, I don't agree with vinland being heavily inspired by it

Edgar

Fate Zero or Psycho Pass

JennyLH

Seirei no Moribito (Guardian of the Sacred Spirit), it's been a while since I've seen this series, so I'd love to watch again with Romania! Rurouni Kenshin is another one, historical references and there is parallel between Thorfinn's character journey and Kenshin's.

Stace

Psycho Pass

Saku

Golden Kamuy. It may not be a show for everyone, but it has adventure, action, great story, history, culture, food, comedy, and weird/lovely characters! The manga ended in 2022. The book sales have exceeded 24 million copies, which is exceptional for a seinen manga. Unfortunately, this series is not well known outside of Japan. People say it's a manly men's story, but half of the readers/viewers are actually women according to the survey. It doesn't have the best quality in terms of animation (I wouldn't say bad, it's okay!), especially in season 1, but it gets better as the story proceeds. Plus, the direction, OST, and choice of voice actors are perfect!

Anime Annie

I haven't seen Vinland Saga yet (it is on my list) but from what I know of it I'd suggest Psycho-Pass or, as a short historical anime, Nobunaga Concerto. Akudama Drive might also be a good shorter anime too.

rogueknight

I'd like to recommend a show called 86 (Eighty Six) I think you would really enjoy it and to me is was one of the best anime of 2021! Love your channel!

Alex Johnson

Fate/Zero would be a perfect replacement.

jv

86!!

Panda Hank

"86 Eighty-Six" or "Oshi no Ko" :)

WuXian Suibian

I agree, although 86 is not a historical anime there are certain things about it that are similar to VS.

rebcorpse

Ajin: Demi Human

Brrmaster

Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song

Alex Kornejo

I second this one, it's not really like Vinland Saga, but it's such a vibe. if you liked 'farmland saga' better than S1, I'd give this one a try.

Zo

the promised neverland s1 (only s1) - 12 eps, soo good

Zo

parasyte is also a good one! - 24 eps

killerqueen2000

Yup esp the historical aspect. also it may prepare her for Jojo in the far future as a series thats "not for everyone" and with lots of buff men XD

killerqueen2000

Golden Kamuy's historical aspects makes it a very fitting option. It also has unique setting and characters. Although, the anime to me is good, but the manga is a must read, so much better and detailed. Def would have to hop on the manga after watching the anime

Noa

World Trigger, I'd love to rewatch it, but this time with you Romania!

Noa

I don't think it has any similarities to Vinland Saga, but any opportunity to recommend World Trigger, I'll take

romaniablack

Thank you for the "golden" recommendation! ;)

romaniablack

86 as been a 2nd place on many a poll so far! Thank you for the recommendation!

Tyrone Tyrone

Saga of Tanya the Evil Fate/Zero The Promised Neverland Ajin: Demi-Human Puella Magi Madoka Magica And you did tease once that you might do Legend of the Galactic Heroes 🙏🙏🙏🙏

zeroantizero

If you're looking for historical drama similar to Vinland, I'd recommend -Anglomois -Night Raid 1931

romaniablack

Thank you for the recommendations! I AM wanting to do another retro poll, but since I already have Trigun and Monster that I'm watching, I wanted to just aim for shows that are "similar" in tone to Vinland Saga for now, but I do want to have a retro poll down the road. :) Legend of the Galactic Heroes would definitely be on it!

Saku

The OVA version of LOGH is great!

Frank Ace Art

I’d recommend “The Vision of Escaflowne”. It’s almost a bit of everything, grand dark fantasy epic romance isekai mecha and with all that works and tells an amazing story with some the most gorgeous animation thanks to the epic production team that did Cowboy Bebop over at Sunrise and scored with beautiful music by the legendary Yoko Kanno. Or “Made In Abyss” another series that is gorgeously animated and tells a story of adventure that is exhilarating and wondrous as well as horrifying.

Once_upona_fae

Dororo or laughing under the clouds both have historical settings.

Four Eyes

I don't know if you've seen it already but I'll throw Steins;Gate out there

Kyra Sun

91 Days, or The Promise Neverland is what immediately pops in my mind

romaniablack

I have not so thank you for recommending! :)

romaniablack

Thank you so much for the recommendations! I've heard of those shows but it is great to know a little bit about the production! :)

Dunno2000

I can't decide between Dororo and Berserk. They're both super dark, historically set, and have an element of politics

romaniablack

Thank you for the kind words and suggestion! I appreciate it!

Millao

There is so many to choose from but I recomend Dororo Psycho-Pass Vision of Escaflowne and also The Twelve Kingdoms; a more chinese inspired fantasy.

Zecxel

At least the first arc is very heavily inspired by berserk. I think that’s pretty indisputable.

Void

Dororo for the historical vibe similarities.

Abby

Psycho pass

Gin

Maybe "Magi"? It has 2 seasons with 25 episodes in each of them! Mostly action anime, it has magic in it and is set in magical world that resembles the ancient past.

BoundByIronBlood

Not sure how you feel about the Gundam series but I would recommend Gundam: Iron BIooded Orphans. It's mecha and Sci-Fi, but has a lot of similar themes I feel. It also is an emotional rollercoaster throughout.

romaniablack

Thank you so much for the recommendation! I'll make sure to add that to my list! :)
