The False Mori Summer (Patreon)

Bluesky/PixivOh Shinka, let it be known that the words of the Mabinogian are absolute!===============================================================Notable Concepts, Ideas, Techniques, and Thoughts:- While trying to touch up Sanae's colours, some of her model's parts actually turned pitch black.  I found out that it had to do with the positioning of my RGB curves node.- A lot of trial and error went into the crumpling effect on Shinka (Shout out to DistortingReality for telling me about how to create it). Lots of cloth simulations and just plopping her into a custom made shape again and again. One thing I didn't try, but really should, is to use the triangulate modifier to divide the plane further and see if it adds more variety to the folds next time.- The decimate modifier worked wonders on the trash can, since it imported with so many unnecessary vertices.- Speaking of unnecessary vertices, Blender was actually crashing when I tried to look at the rendered preview in the 3D viewport, so I had to spend quite some time deleting faces that weren't in the final shot.- Quite a bit of Photoshop work went into this as well, as Sanae's model had a few awkward shadows and folds on her clothes, and there was a seam in the background that needed to be fixed.===============================================================References, Fun Facts, and Extra Details (For the Curious and the Easter Egg Hunters):- Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! is technically the 14th different series to have characters featured here for my renders.- This render is built off of the concept that Sanae and Shinka have a love hate relationship, often getting revenge on each other.- The "chapters of the true being" that Sanae refers to is the Mabinogion, written by Mori Summer, who's actually the chuunibyou persona of Shinka. However, Sanae initially does not believe Shinka to be the real Mori Summer.- Shinka's expression is based off of a moment where she tries to make a speech to get students to vote her as class president, but Sanae interferes with it and Shinka ends up embarrassing herself. I created a shadow gradient and added it to Shinka manually to further reference the expression.- The dialogue used is almost entirely ripped from the anime.===============================================================Credits:- Characters: Sanae Dekomori and Shinka Nibutani (Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!).- Maddoktor2 for the school hallway background.
