“I’ve been thinking,” you begin, taking another calculated bite from the mysterious sandwich, “who exactly is my boss?”

Your centaur manager has taken you out for lunch. He eyes you, somewhat confused.

“You’re the manager of the hotel. Is there no superior for the cleaning service? No one in charge?”

Ah, so that’s what it was. His lips purse for a brief second, then he looks ahead, over the gardens.

“Well, that would be the Minotaur. But he’s always busy, you see. He’s over there.”

He points towards a structure in the far distance. You squint your eyes, discerning some sort of maze.

“What’s he doing there?”

“He cleans the labyrinth.”

“All the time?” you stare again at the stone behemoth. “It’s enormous. Seems pretty futile.”

“That’s his thing. He gets terribly upset if you point it out,” your manager warns with the face of someone who had to witness that wrath.

Fascinating. To think you’ve had a boss this entire time, and he was too busy polishing up a never-ending labyrinth! Overwhelmed by curiosity, you pack up your belongings and head for the cursed architecture.

“Hello?” you hesitantly call out, walking past the massive gates and the foreboding signs plastered all over.

The walls are imposingly tall, reminding you once more of your pitiful human body. With quiet steps, you advance further in, occasionally letting out a shout to announce your presence.

“Who’s there?”

A deep, hoarse voice rumbles across the narrow pathways, filling you with dread. You cower before the gargantuan shade, knees nearly giving in.

Finally, the beast reveals itself. A big, muscular creature, wearing the designated hotel apron. He puffs out of his nostrils, lifting the golden badge towards you: Head of the Cleaning Department.

“You better have a good excuse for stepping over my freshly mopped floors.”

He leans back, resting his arm against a tall mop. He resembles a Greek soldier propping up his spear, and you can only gawk in awe. A mythological champion, the destroyer of all germs.
