He’s not one to believe in fate, you see. In his frank opinion, everything is merely a stochastic coincidence, a network of Markov chains unfolding indefinitely. Yet he can’t help but toy with the idea of a certain determinism, a foreign hand that guided him on that day; he’d taken a break from his writing – he was working on an academic paper, a comparative study between different hybrids residing in caves – when he idly stumbled upon a trending livestream. He wasn’t one to care for popular pastimes, though this particular title immediately caught his eye. A day out with the human employee. Nonsense, he thought with a smirk. It was most likely meant as a cheap attention grab, a clickbait name to entice the masses.

Despite his skepticism, he clicked the link and observed the video with an ever-increasing frown. He watched as you followed behind your streaming monster guest, laughing at his flat statements, occasionally chiming in with a polite response. By the time he’d gotten out of his trance, he noticed his clawed hands were trembling. Good God, it really was a human. His lifelong research, his theories, his hope of one day studying this mysterious creature no one had ever witnessed firsthand…all his dreams and plans toppled over in an instant.

Within a day he had his suitcase ready and a room booked at this supposed Monster Hotel. These were quite extraordinary circumstances, you must understand: he never left his premises. His research was far too important for any other pedestrian distractions, and so stepping outside of his precious home was a terrifying ordeal. Equally exciting if that damned video proved to be true.

Another thing he doesn’t believe in is the idea of a soul. Wishful thinking and nothing else, originating from a pitiful attempt to create meaning where there is none. Yet the moment you entered his room, he nearly felt this so-called soul leave his body. Any hope of proper etiquette crumbled into microscopic particles, blown away like dust.

“…I’m sorry, do you understand?” you repeated yourself, staring at the monstrous beast. Were you going to need the translator? Was it one of those guests who couldn’t speak?

“Yes, uh…Sorry, I didn’t catch that.”

He was thankfully quick to recollect himself and offer a coherent introduction; he was a researcher, specializing in monstrous physiology. He briefly showed you his credentials, and you hummed in awe at the collection of awards and superior studies he’d completed throughout the centuries.

“Say, this might be somewhat straightforward, but…May I study you?”

A strange proposition, but who are you if not a disciple of science?

Being a test subject for Monster Researcher is an experience. You’ve had to deal with curiosity before, naturally; you’ve had monsters touching you and gawking at you, eager to know how your human body works. This inquisitiveness, however, comes with a lot of paperwork and clinical accuracy.

Oh, he’s taken a liking to you alright. In fact, he can confidently declare he’s never been fonder of anyone else. He’s utterly enamored, following you around with a glazed expression and a knot in his chest, but the sense of duty never leaves his side. He could be buried deep between your legs, drooling and panting to the rhythm of your moans, and still find the time to write down observations or remarks to be investigated later. His admiration for your existence doesn’t remain within the confines of his mind, to your utter horror: you’ve found intricate sketches and notes regarding every part of your body, down to the finest detail. Appearance, hypothesized function, characteristics…not a shred of privacy left.

You shiver at the endless data compiled about you.
