Right now, most characters only have first names: Micah, Gina, Falkner, Edith, etc.Do you think it would add more depth to the story if we introduced family names/surnames for the characters, or is it better to keep it simple as it is now?➡️ Please also share your surname ideas in the comments!

Keep in mind that both Micah and Gina are of English origin, so their last names should fit that style. For the other characters, there’s more freedom depending on their race, culture, or background.

Last names should only be for very specific and big moments, like a boss fight that's going to be tough, or maybe since you alluded to their potentially being more people pulled from earth to this world, those could be some of the characters with last names, that would make sense to me.

Last names only really matter when they are a character of importance, or that they serve a purpose in the story. You can assume that most peasantries or lower class may not have ‘family names’ though those who are higher class or positions of power will have a last name. We can make an example like this as: “The Moonbeam family is a noble family made up of Elves.” Then we later introduce a new character their name revealed to the audience as Zell ‘Moonbeam’ & this tells the reader that “you should maybe pay attention this npc more”.

Just a firstname is enough. Maybe if Micah earns a lastname with deeds/profession or marries someone (or is forced to marry a man as girl maybe? Hehe), could get a lastname
