I still have some new great lenses to try, mostly longer lenses on the telephoto side, in particular the Leica ELMARIT-R 1:2.8/135 and the Leica ELMARIT-R 1:2.8/180.The problem is these lenses are very heavy, and need a lot of space to get my model inside the frame.
For example, the lens I used in this photo was the Nikon 135mm f2 Defocus Control, and I was using it in Merate, where I had plenty of space, we were allowed to work undisturbed, and I could leave things around.I could try to take at least the 135mm Leica to the abandoned hospital in August, for Maria, to get some special photos, but I still need to stay close to her in case we meet people there. Also this Leica 135mm is finally complete with the UV protective filter in front, I got my step down ring for the VII series thread just a couple of weeks ago online, so I can finally use everyone of the 5 lenses I bought early in 2025.The Leica 180mm will have to wait, though, because that is really too heavy to carry around!
Distinctive looks from special lenses comes at a cost but, in a time when the 28mm appears to have become the standard focal for everything, including portraits (probably smartphones are to blame for this), choosing longer lenses is instantly providing a fresh look to your pictures. But looking back at the film era, the 135mm focal was widely used by professional and amateur photographers for portraits.
