I've been experimenting with macro flowers and a full range of watercolor reds this month. This real-time recording includes my full painting process of the tulip close-up, along with a list of materials below. Black and white outlines, photo reference and step-by-step photos are also attached. I am working on another macro flower at the moment - this will become a full class with narration and a streamlined palette. 🌷 Enjoy!

NOTE #1: there is no voice-over provided for demo compositions as they are just my own creative exercises,  containing too many experimental pigments and techniques. You can explore narrated tutorials by browsing Tutorial collections, including Botanical, Birds and other compositions: https://www.patreon.com/c/AnnaBucciarelli/collections

NOTE #2: I used ALL my red and pink pigments available at the time - simply to test them. You don't need this range, I would stick to Carmine, Quinacridone Coral, Perylene Violet and maybe Quinacridone Magenta for a simplified palette that looks just as nice.

Anna, this is amazing!

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you so much!!! I am doing a purple one now - it’s so fun 😊😊😊

Mattie Denslow

I love the close up Anna, thank you. Beautifully done x

Sammie Bryant

This is gorgeous, I would love to have a tutorial on this. It seems that the last couple flowers that I love and have gotten super excited about, have no voice over, this newbie needs instruction. Maybe in a few years🤷🏻‍♀️

Anna Bucciarelli

Hi Samie, I only posted 3 demos without voiceover: the peacock, the blue bird with pomegranates, and this tulip... Which other flowers are you referring to? I continue making voice-over tutorial every month like I used to - this is all just bonus content for Tier 1, as I’ve been asked many times to record even the experimental compositions. I didn’t mean to confuse you! 😊 the voiceover tutorials are coming to Tier 2 as they did in the past.

Yuki Dickson

Oof, too beautiful. TY for sharing Anna!

Sammie Bryant

Thanks for replying. I called the pomegranates a flower. You post plenty of content, not a problem at all. This flower just jumped out as gorgeous, I love it. The painting of pomegranate and bird reminded my sister and I of wallpaper we had in our dining room growing up. Our home was a Spanish Hacienda style, it was a gorgeous room/house. My sister saw it and wanted me to paint it. My mother recently passed and these two paintings are totally her. She painted big red flowers in acrylic. These painting make us think of her. I am going to paint her another flower. Your tutorials are so good and detailed, I am actually proud of what I have painted with your guidance , I look forward to what you have in the future. Thank you!

Magnifique Anna mais toujours pas de sous titres en Français.

Ledoux Ellie

I love these demos! Thank you for this « extra » 🌸

Cassie Ryland Fairley

Question: how many palettes do you have? Asking for a friend😳

Cassie Ryland Fairley

ps I absolutely love this…love the soothing music and the variety of pinks, corals, and reds. Your work is phenomenal and inspiring. I most definitely will do this one.

Anna Bucciarelli

I am embarrassed to say… too many 🫢 one for every color group and 2 for reds specifically… I have a bit of an addiction to be quite frank - some girls buy shoes, I make regular trips to the art store and I treat myself with new pigments. Ahem. At least I think I found a perfect red!!! The search for perfect orange and perfect blue continues! 😊

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you Sammie. The way you described the house sounds so beautiful! I plan on doing a full tutorial on a different flower close up next and then fruit - there were a lot of requests for pomegranates and I am happy to do a detailed breakdown - maybe with some seeds too if I can find a good reference:)

OUI MAIS SUR YOUTUBE ELLE DURE 12 MINUTES ???

Anna Bucciarelli

Hi Michelle, this flower wasn't meant as a tutorial. The 2 hour version on Patreon has no voice over at all - just music. I am providing these demos with no voice over as an exra bonus content starting in April. This is in addition to the regular tutorials with voice over:) Sorry I did not mean to confuse you! Maybe you missed this announcement a few weeks ago {it says that in the video too } - "there is no voice-over provided for demo compositions as they are just my own creative exercises, containing too many experimental pigments and techniques". I now post them as a BONUS content by popular request because sometimes people want to see my experimental work:)

Conradt Michelle

Ok Anna j'ai compris. Excuse moi. Je suis vraiment désolée 😭

Sammie Bryant

I look forward to those tutorials, I’m sure they will be awesome as usual. The home was gorgeous inside and out and my Mom was quite the designer, decorator. I wish I had a picture of that wallpaper, it was so similar to your painting. Have a wonderful week of great health, peace, creativity and painting time❣️🌺🥀

cindy

Hi Anna, which art store do you find to be best. They have taken the De Serres from Pickering ( my location). It was so handy and they carried everything. Then they closed the Curry's in Whitby. Looks like I am stuck with either Michaels or heading down to Gwartzmans or Curry's downtown. So frustrating.

Diane Shields

What do you like about the carmine over WN Winsor Red Deep? I have noticed the WN does dry a bit chalky sometimes in a very concentrated wash… I have a Daniel Smith swatch card but not a whole tube of carmine to compare.

Xue L

Loved this! Would you be open to sharing the YT links? the YT interface works a lot better on mobile / iPad than Patreon :(

Anna Bucciarelli

HI Xue! I sadly had to discontinue that option - turns out the Youtube links were used in an unethical way as my content started showing up on all sorts of external websites without my permission.. I don't like this decision, but unfortunately I can't control permissions or prevent people from downloading full videos from YT so this had to be done. Thank you for understanding.

Anna Bucciarelli

Great question Diane! W&R Red Deep is quite nice - I find it a better option for the darkest warm reds {instead of P. Alizarin}. For me it looks a lot warmer {almost close to brown-ish} compared to Carmine {that leans closer to violet relatively speaking}. And - as you pointed out - the chalky effect due to drying shift is more noticeable. Carmine dries out almost as vibrant as when you first apply it :) So if I were to paint say a fall scene - Winsor Red Deep is more appropriate. But for a spring / summer fresh flower - Carmine all the way! Its all very subtle of course .... just sharing my observations. Hope this makes sense. Anna

Velda Draper

I love to do these kind of close ups. lovely

Diane Shields

Yes, it totally makes sense. It also means I need to get a tube of Carmine!!! I’m in complete agreement with your observations- those were my issues also. I really dislike the chalkiness of the WN Winsor Red Deep so much so that I won’t use it in concentrated washes unless I can’t find an alternative. So happy to find out the Carmine doesn’t do that. Thank you so much for your help- it is truly appreciated! 🥰

Xue L

oh no - i'm so sorry to hear. This is really awful. Thank you for making time to explain and fully appreciate and respect your decision. Thank you!

Julie Harp

Yippee! You got out all my fav colors;) And can’t wait for the next macro flower.

Julie Harp

Hi, Xue - Don’t know if this helps you or not, but I am on ipad, as well. I have to use Patreon.com instead of app. App won’t allow you to maximize the screen, but you can do that on the web version of Patreon.

Cathy B.

I've just conpleted step 1 and am enjoying it. I always have a challenge keeping track of the petals, but now start with the most obvious one and point at it with a finger on my non-painting hand. That helps.

Cathy B.

I am having one technical challenge that you may be able to adjust. The bar that shows progress and controls such as captions is not available on this video. That means I can't pause and restart as I like. If that can be fixed from your end, that would be great. Thanks.

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you Cathy. These features are not something I can control. That said, I have written to Patreon support on behalf of myself and everyone who subscribes to get a better understanding of why these features are unavailable, whether they exist in a regular browser vs. app and what their plans are for introducing new features {given they take 20%. of creators' earnings. I will keep everyone posted on what their response is. Thank you!

Cathy B.

Interesting. I bought Daniel Smith quin red for this project and love it.

Cathy B.

I've looked at about 4 projects and this is the only one with the issue so far. All is well however, because I watched it first and then used the free Youtube version which does have the bar and great explanations.

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you - it’s interesting that the playback issue only arises on certain videos. My files are all in the same format… still waiting for PATREON team to respond!

Beth Martin

Thank you so much for these, I really loved following this!
