Anna, You are lovely! and so are your paintings. Thank you so much for sharing this. It's really encouraging. I've been having trouble sitting down to practice for many of the same reasons you had when you began. I'm off to start again!

I totally agree with you about the watercolour paper. I love aches too but it's brutally expensive here in Australia. I've had a few cheaper ones that are okay like Botanical Ultra Smooth which is 50% cotton. Also, Mont Marte watercolour book discovery was gifted to me and is surprisingly lovely to work on. Have made quite a few great pieces on it. I don't think there is any cotton in that one. But I am happiest painting on the arches as nothing fights you. Lovely fish Anna. Loved watching the demo.

Esquisite colours. I agree, best advice given to me was always use 100% cotton and not to use student grade paints. So I bought artist fine primary colours. Over night my paintings improved and I have been able to make a living from watercolour. I do get blocks and mistakes but your idea about the alphabet and flowers is inspirational. I am going to do this for my pleasure and to keep learning. We never stop do we. Your first tutor needs lessons in how to inspire rather than crush. I too became dispirited and disinterested whilst learning my métier, so like you, I did what I enjoyed; my desire to keep going improved very much. Thank you so much for all this🙏🏼💕

Your tips are priceless, some of which I've learned over the course of my own journey the past couple of years and are reinforced so eloquently here. Thank you for sharing your tremendous talent with us and encouraging us to develop our own. What a sweet soul you are.

Loved the tips even as a more advanced painter! I have used Schmincke Horadam artist quality watercolours since I started doing art more in visual arts high school, so the quality of paints was never a problem for me. But getting high quality brushes and changing to 100 per cent cotton high quality paper changed my game entirely.

Hi Anna! I bought my 100% watercolor paper on Aliexpress. It was 9x12in, 20 sheets for $9 USD, free shipping. I don't know what it costs elsewhere, but I know the mixed media paper with 0% cotton costs that much if I buy it in a local store. I'm happy with the paper, however I don't have any expirience with other cotton brands. I surely enjoy the paper not shredding anymore, thanks so much for the encouragement to buy 100% cotton paper!!! I also bought some beautiful brushes on there for a couple dollars each. I typed out "Artist Handpainting Brush" and they all came up. I adore these brushes, they have a red handle with black hair, like a mop brush. They hold lots of water, make a fine point and aren't too floppy but still soft.

Hi Ahava, I am so glad you were able to find good quality and affordable cotton paper & brushes. The paper in particular really makes a huge difference! Enjoy and Thank you for the recommendation. Happy holidays! Anna
