This is an ad-free version of my latest video, where I walk you through 12 of my favorite and most essential watercolor blues โ€” with clear swatches, examples of how each can be used, and plenty of mixing demonstrations. Youโ€™ll see their full potential as primary mixing colors, from vibrant greens to soft violets and even beautiful neutral grays.

As a bonus, Iโ€™ve also prepared a downloadable handout with all the swatches and suggested mixes, so you can keep it as a handy reference while you paint ๐Ÿ‘‰ download the PDF file in this post https://www.patreon.com/posts/essential-blues-137174252

๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽจ The full step-by-step tutorial for the plum composition featured in this video is available on my Patreon, along with outlines and reference photos: https://www.patreon.com/posts/blue-plums-137347363

Thank you, Diane! ๐Ÿ’™ I hope this sparks as much inspiration for you as it did for me โ€” swatching all these colors had me painting so many plums, and now Iโ€™ve started exploring blue flowers too! ๐ŸŒธโœจ

Hi Anna, thank for this lovely overview video about Blues. I must admit, I own them all, granulating as well as staining Blues, from different brands. And Yay, I also love Ultra finest and Indanthrone PB 60. I know you substituted Phthalo Turquoise with Aqua Green, which I also love, but did you ever try the 'real' Pigment Phthalo Turquoise, PB 16. Schmincke call it Helio Turquoise and Winsor Phthalo Turquoise. It is transparent, highly staining and non-granulating (Aqua Green is listed as transparent, but granulating on the Winsor Website and they still don't tell us which pigments it contains). Phthalo Turquoise PB 16 could be a beautiful one-pigment alternative fitting exactly into your lovely Phthalo and Quinacridone palettes. I prefer the Winsor version. For instance it's great for all things tropical, which I love so much. Have a lovely Sunday!
