Hello, my dear patrons - and welcome to September! πŸ‚ There's something about this time of year that never fails to get me! Brand new notebooks waiting to be filled, that familiar itch to begin something new - I feel that same little flutter of excitement as I did years ago, and it's a feeling I hope I never outgrow. As the light turns golden, I hope your painting room feels like exactly the right place to settle in and get to work. If you're feeling that same back-to-school pull (minus the homework), you're in good company - because this month's line-up is full of fresh starts. Here's what's on the easel for September:

🦚 Blue Peacock Tutorial: Already Live!

Yesterday I posted the full Blue Peacock tutorial - a technique-rich painting built on wet-on-wet for the soft base wash and wet-on-dry for crisp texture and definition. We bring the neck feathers to life with tiny vertical strokes, work a fish-scale pattern into the wings, and finish with a touch of negative painting on the head, all using a mix of granulating and non-granulating blues. If you haven't caught it yet, it's live now: https://www.patreon.com/AnnaBucciarelli/posts/blue-peacock-168454381

To keep those brushstrokes sharp, I will also adding a bird feather techniques exercise to our growing Watercolor Foundations series πŸ’§ the ongoing library of foundational "watercolor workouts" you can come back to any time to practice your strokes: https://www.patreon.com/collection/1619988

🀎 Browns, Blacks & Neutrals : Our Pigment Deep Dive Concludes

We've reached the final installment of our pigment review deep dive - the series helping you build your perfect watercolor palette and really understand your pigments. We've already made our way through Blues, Reds, Greens, Yellows, and Purples, and now it's finally time for Browns, Blacks, and Neutrals. Unsurprisingly, there are SO many options here β€” earth colors like Umbers and Siennas make up such a huge part of the watercolor pigment world. This one's especially for my landscape painters and anyone who loves painting animals and organic forms. And of course, I'll throw in a few super-granulating wonders from Schmincke and Daniel Smith's PrimaTek range too.

🌸 Back to Blooms: Geranium Flower Cluster

We're returning to Blooms with a geranium flower cluster, straight from my latest sketchbook collaboration with Etchr. Thank you so much to everyone who pre-ordered the two-sketchbook set - there are still 10 days left to grab yours before we move into production and shipping! I'm also working on a second Line & Wash tutorial for the smaller sketchbook, so there's more of that on the way too.

🐸 Complementary Colors: One Tiny Frog, One Big Lesson

Finally, I'll be posting an ad-free video on complementary colors, using a tiny, vividly colored poison dart frog as our example. Next weekend, I'll follow up with the full real-time process video, along with black-and-white outlines. And since one frog is never quite enough, I'm also repainting the little guy alongside a surprise guest for a fuller, more complex composition tutorial.

As always, thank you for being here - this community is the best part of what I do! Here's to a beautiful, colorful September πŸ‚πŸŽ¨

I really enjoyed your pigment videos. I got some of the ones you reccomended and I love them. Ds green appetite genuine is so nice for greenery and im loving Qor dioxazine purple!

Anna Bucciarelli

Oh so glad to hear that! If you loved Green Apatite - I think you will LOVE the granulation of the browns I am bringing into the next video. There are some real gems especially in the Umbers category :)

Kourters_

Im excited to see them! I never used to like granulating colors much but I just did not know how to use them but they way you show them used makes sense to me and now Im enjoying them.

danielle

So excited! Was just starting to shop for more browns and Grey's πŸ˜‚ and I cant wait to try the peacock, just need to finish some current peices first πŸ˜…

danielle

I really want to try paint some of the moodier landscapes of Chicago the sheepdog, was lookin at piemonte genuine, shadow violet, lunar black and bloodstone genuine to help πŸ˜…

Anna Bucciarelli

ohhhh Shadow Violet is phenomenal (and lightfast too!!!) I am also showing Lunar Black and Bloodstone in the review. As far as pure blacks go... Lunar Black became my fav as I was working on this review - there is SO much texture and it really livens up the whole wash. As you've probably heard me say over an over I am not a fan of blacks hehe but that has more to do with my style. However - Lunar is really fun - its like a dark textured rock straight from the tube!

danielle

Yeah art school drilled into me to never use black πŸ˜‚ but it feels like lunar black doesnt count 🫣 and for dark moody landscapes it would be amazing! Im even more sold now. Time to order yet more paints πŸ«£πŸ˜‚

Amy Wenzel

Oooo I'm excited for the frog. I tried doing one before and the texture just wasn't right. Can't wait to see how you go about it

Laura Todd

Can't wait! I'm really glad the poison dart frog is coming!

Hi Anna πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈlovely lineup for September! πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ’• …especially looking forward to the dart frog process video and the browns, blacks and neutrals video 😊. Will you be doing the lunar moth or kingfisher this fall or winter? You mentioned them in earlier videos either here on Patreon or Instagram. They would be wonderful for tutorials!

Amy N.

The geranium is my favorite. I am also looking forward to a full composition. The browns and blacks will be great to see too. I think I will be placing another paint order after I see your picks!

Bell and Kuma

Will you share your Spain retreat photos with us? Also, I did my first composition and would love to share it with you. It was very scary to choose composition, colors, background.... and exhilarating.

Gwyneth Anderson

Anna, I would LOVE for you to do a fall leaves tutorial. In one of your shorts, there was a snippet of you painting a cluster of leaves that was absolutely gorgeous. Of course, everything you paint is just lovely, but fall is my favorite season and I'd love to celebrate it.
