Sneek Peek: August Composition π¦πͺ· Mandarin Duck (Patreon)
Content
Hi All! I hope you are ready for some serious negative painting practice this Month:) August composition will feature the most colorful bird - a Mandarin Duck. The title photo is my "exploration" / study version with a bunch of lotus leaves. The final duck {layer 1 and layer 2} are attached as well. The palette is below.
I am still debating the final arrangement of lotus leaves for our final version background, but the duck stand-alone tutorial is done, and will be out next week! It is about 2.5 hours* long, so I will go easy on the background, perhaps featuring just 2-3 lotus leaves :)
* it sounds long but it's only 2 layers! The timing is due to some careful and slow negative painting.
MAIN PALETTE:
PURPLE: Dioxazine Purple (how could I not include this one from QOR:) but really any purple or blui-ish violet from any brand will work.
DEEP BLUE: Indigo {any brand} or Payne's Gray {or any black if you don't mind a harsher look}.
PHTHALO BLUE RED SHADE or GREEN SHADE. Any transparent Blue will work.
BURNED SIENNA. Essentially we need a light golden brown, so feel free to swap for similar colors, for example Burned Sienna Light {non granulating}
PHTHALO TURQUOISE. Alternatively emerald green, Aqua Green, or any transparent blue-ish green.
SAP or OLIVE GREEN. We will be mixing lots of it with Indigo above.
RED: Quinacridone Red or ANY transparent warm or medium red for the beak and feet.
BROWN-ish ORANGE/ORANGE-y BROWN: Lots of options, from Quinacridone Burned Orange {any brand}, to Brown Madder W&N, Quinacridone Burned Scarlet, even Quinacridone Deep Gold or Perylene Maroon DS.
OPTIONAL:
Additional Warm Yellows. I added Hansa Yellow Deep on the cheek, and Gold Ochre on wing feathers.
Additional Intense Oranges, I added Transparent Pyrrole Orange, Winsor Orange Red shade on beak and feet.
