Hello my friends! I am slowly returning to normal after a much needed break, and working on some new and exciting compositions for us to explore this Fall.  The surgery went well, the small tumor on my back was removed, and I will be OK. Thank all of You for all kind messages {which I am still responding to!}. I am really touched by your support and happy to be back.

Before we move on to pure Fall-themed subjects***, I'd love to paint a seashell with you. Take a look at the 2 work-in-progress watercolors attached - I am happy to do either one as a real-time tutorial. Although they look similar, the specific techniques and learning topics are quite different in each case {in terms of the key skills you will practice} :

The White Shell tutorial would focus on painting shadows and understanding light {the fundamentals are similar to those we've explored in the White Flower tutorial}

The Pink / Ochre Shell tutorial would focus more on layering pigments and balancing values {lights and darks} with a more complex palette.

* For beginner-level Fall tutorial I am thinking mushrooms? I feel like pumpkins and sunflowers are overdone... I may be wrong of course - let me know in comments below what is on your mind 🧡

The pink shell💝💞💕❤️

Jojo

Oh my goodness there are two!!! 😍 I like 100% closed shell one with pink flowers only a d 99.9999% the one with purple flower 😄

Jojo

I’m so glad to hear you are better and surgery was successful! Sending all the love and stregth!💕

Shreya Banerjee

I like the one with only pink flowers a smidge better than the one with purple flower

Sherry Baker

I like the one with the purple and pink flowers best. I'm glad you're doing better!

Peggy Moyer

I vote for the white shell, and so glad all went well. Take care

susan roll

Anna, I am so happy you've all right. I've thought about you so much during the break. Thank you for sharing your good news and as always God bless you and your family.

Izabela

Pink/ochre

Sherri McMahon

My vote is the 1st shell, but both are lovely.

Izabela

And I would like to paint a sunflower

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you Jo! I’ve been “meditating” on shells for 2 weeks straight 😊 (staying off social media has its benefits) and I think you are right - the brown shell is a bit too much - it looked better without the flowers but I got carried away (again!) Happy to do it again though as tutorial but would have to find a different background solution. I hope you are well ❤️ I will follow your advice and do a massive post about student work on Instagram on Monday )just wanted to minimize screen time this month)

Michele Drews

I like the second one - the one where I can see the inside of the shell, although they are both beautiful!

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you Sherri - I am so glad you all stuck around and I can jump right back into work now 💜 truly amazing how supportive this group has been!

Emily

Thrilled you are feeling better. I prefer the white shell and mushrooms, especially colorful ones.

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you!!! I am definitely thinking colourful mushrooms too!!! Looking at reference photos tonight 😊 will choose several and post for a poll!

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you Michelle! The one with pink / coral inner layer is more “exciting” to paint but I would drop the flowers if it’s selected. Something more muted for a background 😊

Jessica IsejMaltese

I like the white shell more because it stands out more from the background.

Kathy Bergsma

So glad that you are better. I prefer the pink shell with purple flower. Thank you for the opportunity to vote.

Linda McKendrick

Great news - cant wait for the new tutorial - both are beautiful but I think I prefer the white shell with pink flowers :)

Laura Patton

White shell is stunning. Glad you're on the mend.

Yvonne N Berlingeri

So glad you are going to be well! I like both but I prefer the white shell.m, for some reason my eyes found the white shell quicker🤷🏻‍♀️. I do prefer that you will do mushrooms for fall, you are right, pumpkins and sunflowers are overdone. Although I would love to see some intricate sunflower composition from you. Take care and be well!

Elaine Bruckman

I am so glad to hear that you are well! I like the second shell better, where we can see more of the shell. And I agree, some sort of background that won't compete with the shell. Maybe keep the background in theme with ocean or beach? Whatever you decide will be great.

Laurel Frazer

Glad you're feeling better. 🥰I would love to try the white shell tutorial but they are both gorgeous!!

BE

I’d prefer the white shell, as it stands out more against the flowers and has colorful shadows. I’d love a mushroom tutorial, that sounds like a really fun and different idea, but pumpkins and sunflowers in your style would of course be unique and beautiful 🤗

Teresita Soto

It’s wonderful to have you back and that you are feeling better! I vote for the white shell one. Also, have you ever done anything related to alice in wonderland?

Janet Wallace

So glad you are feeling better. Glad you are o.k. I prefer the white shell. In thinking about Fall, I would like something with layered leaves. I'm new to the group so not sure you have done this in the past. I'm really enjoying your tutorials... I'm new to watercolors and your tutorials are so easy to follow. Thank you.

Katherine Antonini

I’m so happy to hear that your procedure was successful! You must be so relieved. 💜. I like the first seashell much better. The composition just flows nicer and you can appreciate the shell more from a side view. I can’t wait to try this painting!

Christine Kilger

I like the pink / inside shell. Even the shell only would be beautiful. Glad you are back ❤️

Dianne Ketko

So glad to hear all went well. My vote is for the white shell with the pink flowers. Practice painting white and shadow is hard and takes lots of practice to for me to solidify the skill. Thank you for the choice

candy vanstaveren

I like the white shell, i think the pink one competes too much with the flowers and gets lost.

Dianne Ketko

Also Anna could you tell me where you purchased your Escoda chronos brushes. Are they still your go to brushes?

Joan Mathys

I prefer the white shell and would probably prefer to do it without the flowers in the background. Glad you are back and feeling better.

Linda Knox

I like the white shell with the pink flowers. I’m so glad that your health is improving.

Nicole Morrison

I like the white shell with the pink flowers only…

Allyson Marbut

Glad to know you are doing well. I am drawn first to the white shell, BUT I love the dark teal color in the middle of the second one as well. I would love to see something done with fall leaves and negative painting. Keep trying to get brave enough to do something like that, and love the grapes, but I think I need a lot more baby stepping before I do the grapes. The colors of fall leaves and the details of the changes in colors and decay are fascinating.

J Marie

Oh man, I love them both! I can’t decide! Either or both will be amazing!

Pamela Schy

I love them both, am drawn a little more to the white but want to learn more about layering so I’ll vote for the second one.

Christy Travis

Love both but think I would enjoy the second one!! So glad all went well!! Happy you are back!! 💕

Anamika Banerjee

Welcome back Anna, so happy to see you playing your melody with colors. I am loving both of your compositions. If I have to pick one then I will choose the white shell because I struggle a lot in preserving the light. And thank you Anna for choosing such a beautiful subject. In our culture conch shells 🐚 are considered auspicious ❤️

Peggy K

So nice to hear your surgery went well. Love the second shell showing pink interior. Shells are one of my favorite subjects

Amy Wenzel

I'm glad you are doing ok. I like both, but I think I like the idea of practicing with the white shell the best.

Kelly Hoche

It’s so wonderful to hear from you and know that your surgery went well!! The pink shell gets my vote.

Jennifer Mertens

I prefer the pink shell, however, I think the skills taught in the white shell tutorial would be more valuable to me. The white flower tutorial was amazing, and I really need more practice with that type of painting, so my vote is for the white shell option. Also while this topic is being discussed, I think a tutorial painting white flowers with purples, pinks, and blues as the "shadows" would also be beneficial. I think a lot of people would find it a nice way to practice shadow/definition work, while at the same time creating a white flower that is not your typical "grey/beige" tone. Sending positive and healing thoughts your way!

Charlie

For me? Definitely the pink shell. Lessons on how to properly layer in watercolors is still something that I'm struggling with. Also, I am a "pumpkineer" and would love to do a carved pumpkin with a candle glowing inside.

Melissa

Glad the surgery went well. I like the white one

Matthew Lech

Loved your white peony tutorial, I think painting the white shell would be more beneficial for learning, but the layering shell looks more beautiful

Martha Baker

The pink shell gets my vote!

Dana Oniga

Oh, Anna, I m so happy to hear that your surgery went well!! Either shell is fine for me. As for the fall themed tutorials maybe a composition with autumn leaves, berries, mushrooms, or autumn leaves bird and mushrooms, would be lovely. Big hug! 💕

Leslie Laurent

I’m partial to the pink shell. Happy to have you back and hear it went well.

Johanne Lalonde

I have a preference for the pink shell. I would love to see a tutorial of the fall leaves that you posted on Youtube last year, so colorful.

moniek van nispen

Glad that you are doing well! I love the pink flowers. The white shell is also good to learn but I prefer it not combined with flowers.

Debra Williams

Glad to hear you are doing well. I prefer the white shell and I love the hibiscus flowers. Very beautiful.

Sharon Scalzone

Glad to hear you are doing well! I love them both but prefer the pink shell!❤️

Susanne Norling

I am happy that you are feeling better. I love them both but I would love to learn to paint the white. 🥰

Janice Herman

I vote for the pink shell. So grateful you are recovering. I missed you!

grouchy_gourd

So glad to hear it went well Anna, welcome back! I prefer the white shell and mushrooms sound great as the fall tutorial.

Terri H.

Hi Anna, I joined your Patreon group last month. I am so happy to read that your surgery was a success and that you’re feeling better. I prefer the white shell painting because like others, I would like to learn more about shadows on white subjects. For a fall subject, I would like to suggest crysanthemums. Such a pretty fall flower with a wide variety of colors and flower shapes (spider mum).

Renee Griffin

Welcome back! So happy all went well and I am looking forward to continuing this watercolor journey with you. I prefer the white shell and hibiscus flowers- I need more work on light and shadow and a tutorial on hibiscus. As for fall, mushrooms are good. I would like to request a furry animal for fall as well. A bat, squirrel, cat,…. You get the idea. Floral thoughts… perhaps mums?

Sheila Spain

I am most intrigued in the flower of the white shell painting - but would enjoy and learn from both. Glad the surgery is behind you with good news. Continue to rest and let your body heal. We will be eager to enjoy your tutorials when you return

Sheila Spain

I think Mushrooms would be a great idea! Very popular as a topic right now, so much variety and so delicately beautiful

Natasha Rupniak

I love both shells but prefer the white…

Susan Gersh

the one with the purple flower pls

sheridan leslie

The white conch shell with pink hibiscus.

Vonda Sisson

White shell with pink flowers please

Sarah Holcomb

Im so glad your surgery went well and that you’re feeling ok enough to be back to doing tutorials! I’m ok with either shell, and a mushroom tutorial sounds really fun. A pumpkin tutorial sounds … boring, as you suggested. 😊

Velda Draper

so very happy your health is back, I love both shells...but I do prefer the. I hope we can pdf them both...

Karen Elpers

Hi Anna, thank you so much, so happy you're back and feeling good!

Karen Elpers

I like the second shell, and mushrooms sound great, can't wait!

Linda Hewett

So glad you have weathered that challenge, Anna. Many people rooting for you 😊. I would prefer the white shell. Thanks

Heavenly Art

So happy all went well with your surgery. Hard to choose, but leaning to pink. Mushrooms great . Stay well.

Colette

I love the side view shell. I live in Florida and am having such fun with the tropical themed paintings. So happy to hear your surgery went well and you are doing OK. Best.

Susi

Pink Ochre shell🥰

Paula Bush

So happy your surgery went well!

Paula Bush

I can’t decide…both are gorgeous!

Lindsey gage

The white shell is my favourite and I would feel more confident painting that one too. I’m so glad your operation went well . I hope you’re feeling a bit better now x

Elaine Bruckman

For a fall beginner level tutorial, maybe you can reuse the sunflower tutorial on YouTube and add it to Patreon? Maybe it is not a beginner level painting, but it's beautiful.

Anne-Marie De Clercq

So happy to hear from you and I prefer the white shell but will also be happy to do the other one.

Danielle Hudson

I would LOVE to have BOTH these tutorials! Glad to hear you are ok!

Quyen Hutchinson

The white shell and mushrooms! Though would be happy with the pink shell as well TBH

Ankia

The white shell please xx

Annabelle Bourgeois

Hi Anna, I am glad to read that you are recovering. I would vote for the white shell ! Take care.

D lonergan

White shell!! Altho both are gorgeous. And mushrooms get my vote. One of my favorite subjects but I am never totally happy with them.....so looking forward to your tutorial, if you decide to do it.

Salted Spruce

Omg mushroooms all the way!! Nut would be neat to put something else with the mushrooms, like ferns or a tree trunk or something. So happy surgery went well for you 💕

Elizabeth Parma

I just watched your shell tutorial on YouTube and I'm so excited for the complete class next week. And, go for the mushrooms! They'll be so fun!

crystalheart9

The white shell or either, it's so hard to choose. And mushrooms would be very welcome. So happy you are doing well after your surgery.

Cherry

The white shell tutorial and the mushroom tutorial sounds good. Hope you are doing better and speedy recovery <3

Hilda

The white shell with pink hibiscus. The other painting is too busy. Looking forward to the tutorial. Keep healing Anna 😊

Janet O'Connor

The white shell, please. The mushrooms will be a fun Autumn design to explore!

Anna Bucciarelli

White shell coming up this week! and mushrooms after :) Thank you1

Amanda Clayton

White shell please. Also like the idea of mushrooms!!

Devra

i adore both shell paintings.. sorry no help. in choosing. LOL. how about a Raven sitting within a bunch of ferns?? that would be striking. hey

Velda Draper

i also love and would like to do both shells.

Anastasia Ampatzoglou

The shells brought me here 😂. I love both, but the bolder one would interest me a lot!!!

Anna Bucciarelli

Welcome Anastasia! Part #1 (first hour) will be out this weekend 😊 it seems people prefer the white but I may do the pink brown one later 💜
