A tad late, but an extra-long chapter, since I wanted to keep writing more and more until I arrived at my planned point. I also again decided to hug the canon divergence, if vaguely told by excerpts without dragging on unimportant PoVs (especially since I arrived at the parts of the Dance that made even less and less sense) Let me know what you think in the comments. You can read the previous chapters in the collection.

Wait, where was it foreshadowed?

Knocking Jon out for over a month and having Jace die offscreen right after Jon had somewhat resolved to take a more proactive stance towards improving what he can is a choice. Feels like a major backslide, in multiple respects, including his incredibly whishy washy “plans” with Rhaena. He’s willing to go kill a dragon mono e dragon at least partly for her, but if her father marries her off it’s “oh well!”? I’m having trouble getting this chapter.

Lucion

940 days? Is this a typo? 🤯

MehOhWell

Eh, not feeling this chapter as much as the past few. I think you should have had Jon up earlier and forced him to deal with all the bullshit. Still, I love the notion of Jon somehow ending up king, not because he pursued it but because he sat on his ass fishing until everyone else was dead. Also, RiP to Daemon, you were a real one among the Targ cunt-iness. I'm sure Jon's going to end up avenging while saving your daughter for the third time.

aiwonder

You made it so that i honestly dont know how on earth, how anyone can come up top in this.

Brewt

Cheers for the chapter. Nothing too surprising there, Denys as well, the hints were there. Though that does lay the groundwork for the final fight, Jon vs Denys. Interesting that Ashcove is being built up, how sustainable that is long term is interesting, as Dragonstone isn't particularly wealthy, though if you were enterprising I guess that there is an opportunity there now that Corlys has lost his fleet. How does Jon feel about the fact that Catelyn will never come to be now? Ahh well, back to waiting till next week I guess.

I enjoyed the chapter, Jon started bringing prosperity for the people of Dragon Stone which means the world to them. It also nicely starts progressing his future titles as: The Kind: he chose to help the smallfolk even if they were not his responsibility The Wise: he chose to gift the Dragon Bone and Dragon Scale and in turn received long term benefits Champion of the Warrior: slayed a Dragon single handedly, can crush hardwood like charcoal, his flesh is stronger than steel I only wonder about the uhm logistics of his coupling with Rhaena. There's going to be quite some bruising until they get the hang of it.

Denys larping as Maegor descendent so hard he even betrayed the blacks just to prove it beyond any doubts

InnerDemons

I hope that Daemon magically survives. And I hope Jon roasts Denys like a pork roast.

VishihaHitachi

I know it Silver Denys is the new Hugh Alyn was suppose to rule Driftmark anyway so not much change The butterfly still goes hard Visery is gone Aegon the younger is gone in spirit earlier than canon Where is Aegon the Older anyway he wasn’t at Dragonstone right ? or maybe he never leave KingsLanding The things Jon done , after Rheanerya’s demise The Black will rally to him to be King House Tully is Gone like Gone gone so there is no Stark and Tully married anymore Wait with Deamon gone who will take out Aemond ? Heck don’t tell me Silver Denys want to be King himself

Jason

Man Silver Denys just like heroically sucks…. There goes the most rational silver haired homie in this story. And fuck me if it isn’t very odd that DAEMON is coming off as the most reasonable person in ANY group of people. Even were it a group of two…

stevem1

Daemon backed stabbed by Silver Denys? Well, the guy was a scumbag so I could see it coming. And the Blacks were probably planning to backstab him, so maybe it was even justified. It does suck a bit. Daemon was a massive jerk, but he did put it on the line time after time. Unlike most of his family of supposed Dragonlords, Daemon walked the walk despite numerous personality flaws. He was exactly the kind of guy who would go out in a blaze of glory, like in canon. Jon didn’t reject Rhaena, though at first blush it looked that way. Instead, he demanded that she court him. Which made me laugh. She just might do it too. Rhaena not claiming Silverwing is a mistake. If she doesn’t want to be called to war, claim her on the down-low like Jon was claimed by Vermithor. Push comes to shove, she’d have a massive ace up her sleeve. As it stands now, she’s exposed. Dragonstone is stripped and mommy dearest is busy screwing up KL. Having a trump card would be well advised. Though she kind of does in Jon, assuming he decides to do something. Jon being so passive seems disconnected. At one hand, he’s building Ashcove into a proper town, though that might be unintentional. He’s really improving their lives. On the other, he’s ignoring misery and death on an unprecedented scale. Both Blacks and Greens suck. But if one were to win, and restore order, at least there would be peace and not corpses littering the landscape. Jon being unwilling to do anything to tip the scales means he’s complicit by omission. Which makes me think that he is still out of it, a bit. When he sees a problem, like Ashcove, he acts to fix it. But if he doesn’t see it, if it is just words, then he ignores it. Hopefully he’ll get his head out of his posterior sooner rather than later. Fat Jeyne. I feel for the poor girl. She faces nothing but rejection after rejection. Her self-esteem has to be in the toilet. I hope she finds someone decent in Braavos.

Maniac000

Hm, the Blacks are not looking good here. Only Alyn with Seasmoke and Rhaenyra have the adults dragons in their faction, and she’s out of practice. Maybe Rhaenyra will go full kamikaze to take out Vhagar/Aemond like Daemon did while Alyn takes care of Silver Denys? After that all that’s left are Daeron and Aegon to deal with. Aegon can still get messed up by Baela like canon. Maybe Alyn and Daeron kill each other…

I would love a westeros reform focused story of how after the dance jon and rhaena solidify a new dynasty and plan ahead for the long night

Dark-Palace

House Stark is about to win the game of thrones without mostly doing jack shit😭 Awesome chapter bossman can’t wait for more!

Hex

Welp, this Dance is certainly shaping up like the original. If it ends like I think it will, Jon will do his utmost to never be king and instead stand as regent until Aegon the Younger (the Dragonsbane) is old enough to rule. Even if the Great Houses try to push him towards kingship, he'll have the largest, strongest living dragon by the end. They won't be able to force him to do anything, which means the eggs need to be protected at all costs. That meteorite could be interpreted as the gods of Westeros wiping the slate clean to start again after humans failed, so what if the best chance against the Others is still around till then?

Grimgoth

From the dragon's bloody bath to the waiting position, why do I get the feeling that Jon (*cough* the author) is just waiting for something/someone/a sign(?). It is implied but not explicitly stated that either Daemon nor Caraxes died. Caraxes was hunting (presumably alone), and the chance that he survives with serious injuries is 10%. Daemon wasn't mentioned directly, "...the seat of House Mooton...none had survived admidst the Ruins...-not even bones could be found...", who's to say he was even there (unless the author says so). It wouldn't be out of character if he was in a brothel/tavern outside when all this happened. If Caraxes died (even if he was badly injured) that could have an effect on Daemon and he's just MIA. (I personally would find it particularly funny if he was without a dragon and then suddenly his daughter and Jon had the dragon couple.) In my opinion, Jon's dragon hunt was at least partly a knee-jerk reaction because his warg bond was broken and of course Mister Bronze egged him on...the goat thief is to amused.

Ambrose Young

Now did you just kill my boy Daemon with no fanfare or glory? The cruelty haha looking forward to next week!

Maniac000

That Weirwood tree is gonna get a special name, isn’t it? The Dragonwood Tree? The Weirdragon Tree?

prodbyluvlace

Oh no, a scammer – a trickster – a professional con man did a sudden and inevitable betrayal! Oh no, oh no, who could have seen this coming?!

deinekes9

There was a fanfic once where northerners joked that the first Stark king was so humble and honorable that the lords had to ambush him and chain him to the throne to put the crown on his head. We're getting close to that point with Cregan Stark leading the mob and Rhaena pushing Jon into their loyal embrace, all the while Jon pleading for mercy from his kingly fate.

Omar Syed

So... House Tully exterminated. House Mooton gone. Daemon betrayed. Baela and Rhaena alone and nigh defenseless at Dragonstone. Rhaenyra and her court in Kings Landing, faring worse than in the canon. Jon "You have little I want" Stark confessing his fondness for Rhaena but with caveats. Ashcove turning from a village into a town. Etc Quite a lot happening in this chapter, even if on the side lines. Will Jon stir when the Greens attack Dragonstone and Ashcove with it? When the Greens attack Dragonstone, with Rhaenyra in Kings Landing, will he leave Rhaena defenseless? Jon Stark, being the honorbound fool that he is, I think not. And with Ser Broome bound to Jon "I really enjoy fishing" Stark of Ashcove, how will Aegon manage to enter Dragonstone Castle? Etc So many questions. Eagerly awaiting answers. Nicely done.

Dark-Palace

Since this story started, I always was wondered what Jon would do, with Ned’s teachings about leadership, commanding, tactics, would do in this war. It’s one thing for Jon to have a dragon and be insanely good with a sword, but commanding just hits different in my opinion.
