This chapter was written under frustration and many interruptions... and it came out pretty well, I think. I'll definitely go back to it and give it some more edits later tho.Website.Google Docs.

MehOhWell

Jon ‘Love-‘em and Leave-‘em’ Snow everyone. Surely there’s no way this will backfire miserably. One Dragon-Wolf bastard cannibal to be King of the Freefolk, another to rule the Dreadfort and who knows how many more to come.

Myrdin

So Jon can kill men in cold blood, but can’t even lie that he is Bloodraven’s son? Even though everyone thinks so either way, and could easily explain his parentage without that time travel mambo jambo? That is idiotic.

suspicious

Didn't know Jon wanted to be the next Gardener :D Ngl, I kind of like the idea of him with her...

I believe Jon's inner monologue quite literally explained why he doesn't believe that posing as Bloodraven's son is a good idea. That, of course, is unreliable narrator, and characters are meant to be complex and even contradictory in certain matters.

FallenMetalGod

Thank you. It's interesting about Rogar Bolton. I would almost say the Bloodstone Emperor’s creatures, or maybe from the Lord of Light's little dark corner. I don't see this situation not becoming a mess with Lady Bolton. Great job as always, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Maurogatos

Ahh the dream of Jon come true! As a Bastard he must leave his own bastards all over the world !! That was what he dreamed about I’m sure !

shabbybook

Whys it start with “beyond the wall” while at last hearth

gladiusx

Because I copy-paste the PoV title from a few chapters ago. Good catch and fixed.

I’m kind of with Myrdin on this one. His moral compass is dubiously non sensical here. He looks like bloodraven, he has all his weapons, and he was trained by him. He’s in a situation where it looks like a dog, barks like a dog, and acts like a dog … It makes sense if you’re very specifically taking the plot somewhere with this but it seems like to me it would be way easier to have bloodraven say “tell them you’re my son from XYZ Stark bastard woman who came up above the wall because she loved me but then died. It’s why I left the watch to raise you.” It literally explains all his manners, skills, warging, knowledge of the watch/north and almost every other point including his looks. I understand your point about Jon’s internal monologue. I just think it’s a major point that doesn’t make sense. Jon even acknowledges “we do what we must”, kills people in cold blood to achieve his goals, and comes to terms with his own ambition. Any of these points would surely be revelations that help him come to terms with saying he’s Bloodraven’s son to get what he wants or protect those he cares about. Who cares if he’s a bastard twice over? As you said, his story gets super shaky the more someone looks into it.

SPJaymo117

Thought that was pretty cool. Look forward to seeing an explanation on that one day

Loved this chapter. Jon’s segments are always my favourite. Is there a reason though Jon doesn’t make extra weirwood beads that he carries around on him or on a bracelet just in case? I probably would if I knew that was what was between me and madness at any given moment and I’m planning to leave the north aka the only source of weirwood beads.

Yeah... Now I need a spin off where Jon takes her up on the offer and becomes the Bastard of Bolton - delicious irony

Lord Sturm

Because you use modern values. In past killing someone or even A LOT of people just for them being "enemy" was ok, but impersonating was VERY bad...

Myrdin

Now Jon is basically impersonating a Stark, because his parents don’t even exist. So he should even more claim to be Bloodraven’s son, as that is very plausible and no one can prove otherwise

Lord Sturm

It's called "crazy-bitch-but-beautiful" magnet. I think he will be shocked then this "pull" would be towards Rhaella... who is legit dark witch in this timeline.

Lord Sturm

Nope. He said that he has Stark blood... and it's true, because if you make genetic/magic test on him he will be related to current Stark. While being "son of Bloodraven" is 100% false.

Myrdin

Such tests don’t exist in this world. And if they were it would turn out that he is related to Bloodraven as well. If lord Stark asked him about that supposed caretaker of his, he wouldn’t be able to point anyone. Jon is simply being an idiot about it here for the sake of some distant plotline

John

Ngl I kinda wanna see her come back in the story. C’mon Jon you love them crazy don’t be a coward and do it.👀

Ragnar1379

at the very least she has an heir, likely with grey or purple eyes

SPJaymo117

Hence why I said it’d be easier for Brynden to say to Jon “hey go pretend to be my son and go south of the wall. You’re my son in the ways that matter” before he dies. To me, it’s a big plot hole that doesn’t make sense not to fill.

SPJaymo117

Even with explicit permission and that they do share blood? As mentioned, I think it’s much easier to start this with Bloodraven telling him to claim him as his father.
