Yessss I absolutely love that it's Matsuda who shoots Light!! Seeing Light become so pitiful when he thinks of himself as a God and has hurt so many people is beyond rewarding. I love the scene where he's running and he passes his younger self - I think he feels regret in that moment and thinks 'if only I didn't go down this path'...but he did and now has to live (and die) with the choices he's made.

When I was an edgy teenager I was a light stan 🌚 but now rewatching the show as an 32 old man.. I fucking hate Light with a passion, he's such an insufferable character, I enjoyed how pathetic he was at the end

So glad you guys dropped 3 episodes today! Fuck you light!!! Lol 🤣 this anime does a great job at making you root for the main characters downfall. The mangas ending is a bit different actually- light actually dies in the warehouse as Ryuk tells him he's going to kill him. Light begs for his life and is a whiny baby saying he doesn't want to die. Just more satisfying to me haha. This is a good anime to start with- it's a classic! Excited to see y'all continue to make your way through shows and become anime veterans :)

Would love to see y'all do Code Geass next! Lots of people recommend it as a sort of companion anime to Death Note, since it also explores moral issues, but with a very different take, tone, and setting. Not as dark and dreary as Death Note or Attack or Titan either; a bit more whimsy and futuristic robots. I think you would enjoy it and the dub is well-liked :)

i am neither a light defender nor hater, but i do love villains so i love him as a character so so much (not as a person). It's compelling to have villain protagonist and i feel like we need more of those! This anime is a story of absolute power corrupting people and that we should not give power to a single person. I also believe in nuance and that light could be a good person if he never came across the death note. I think this story is a tragedy and I love those.

This show is one of my favorite animes, I also agree with how you guys were feeling with the second half of this show. After L died, I believe that was around where the story was supposed to end initially, but creators were pressured into continuing the manga because of popularity (the classic). It's obvious it was rushed. The ending I love so much, but I bet that ending was initially supposed to be with L 10 episodes ago, instead of all the unnecessary turns they took in this second arc for no reason. It loses what makes the first half of this show the masterpiece that it is. But the ending is worth it.

FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST BROTHERHOOD NEXT! Trust me!!! DeathNote is such a top tier intro to anime show, I love it. So happy you guys experienced it! The anime ending is beautifully cinematic and I do like it, but there's a certain satisfaction in the manga ending that I don't get in the show. Someone below me already mentioned it, but watching Light beg for his life, afraid to die was such poetic justice to read. Thanks for making me rewatch the series with you guys!

Thanks for this Death Note journey, Anime Daddies~ Think you missed a couple of things during the end credits: -it's implied Misa commits suicide by jumping off a building -Light saw a vision of L right as he was dying Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood next? :) if you do watch it soon, heads-up that Episode 1 is in media res, so don't worry if you don't immediately understand what's going on

If I was Kira I would surround myself with dumb cops too. He took out Ray Penber and his fiance because they were competent. He took out L. The fact that Light keeps them alive is evidence of their incompetence.

While I really like this anime. Misa’s suicide always was such a bad part for me. She never saw lights true colors and I wish she did. Even if she did have to meet that end. I wish it would have been with the knowledge of all that was.

I think its not even about Light winning or losing, the fact that Light goes out like an absolute chump makes the show like ten times better. I do think the second half of the show does kind of fall off in terms of vibes and plot, but the landing is so perfect.

Loved your reactions to this series! It's one of my favorites because its so ridiculous and even though I hate Light, he cracks me up all the time (the english VA did an amazing job). The ending is so satisfying and fits his character, so overall its a 10/10 anime for me and y'alls reaction is a 10/10 too! :D

I was too young when I first watched this and I was lowkey rooting for light the whole time. I don’t think I realized how big and real his crimes are and my young brain went “main character we root for him.” I always loved the ending though having sweet idealistic matsuda break and shoot the fuck outta him

Great reaction of the ending. Such a great show down in the end. Matsuda although being a idiot in the investigation team throught out the show. I think he is a delightful charactor who is simple minded and easy to trust people. And because of that he felt the most betrayed when Light was revealed as Kira. And the action of him shooting Light with no hesitation would not be more satisfied if it wasn't for the build up of his charactor. So I love Matsuda as he is in the show. The whole ending credits scene has such a poetic feeling to it. I love that in Light's last moment he saw L like seeing a old friend. I think when Light being Kira. One of his favorite thing is the chase between him and L. And that he missed that after L is gone. Very excited to see what anime you will watch next.
