Best of the Worst: Ben and Arthur

Mike, Jay, Rich Evans, and a special guest star talk about the gay cult classic "Ben and Arthur"!

Comments

Dendo Star

Awesome! Really super sad about your hard drive, man. Mandigo. Manfredo.

hamish smith

Guess I won't be killing myself today

Rachel Snead

Yesss! Thanks boyzz. Needed this today

Amy Nelson

Awesome! Thank you, guys. I needed this so badly. Shitty year so far. So, thank you again.

Lelio Mulas

Me: "Enough RLM, I should listen to some music." Patreon notification: "NOPE"

Joshua Mannix

Jay's hair magically grew back from the Boys Season 2 episode.

Kim Luu

The eyes are horrifying made me question my sanity

Odin Vik

I really want to bail on work right now

Steve

Is this another gay soft core porn?

Faterpillar

Who's controlling the Gremlin's eyes?

hamish smith

Maybe take your hard drive to a tech shop for recovery? In really sorry about your hard drive :(

Marvin Falz

I believe the crashed hard drive is my fault. I prayed very intensely to Jesus, so that he travels back in time, and drive the production of the movie against the wall, hard, crash it, and he must have misheard me, and crashed Mike's hard drive. I'm so sorry. ---- I repeat myself, but I always love it, when you guys talk about film making. Thanks!

Matthew Murray

So, this video is absolutely terrific--actually even better than I'd hoped for. But I want to point out that it's not merely them making fun of a bad movie for 73 minutes, it's also a class in budget filmmaking. They discuss aspects of plot, production, set design, props, and more that would have elevated Ben & Arthur above the trash it is. The guys don't take the movie seriously, but they take the art seriously--and that's what sets them apart from both Sam Mraovich and a lot of other people I've seen on YouTube mock this movie. This is hugely funny, yes, but it's also genuinely substantive and educational in how it treats the art and craft of moviemaking. This is maybe one of the best examples ever of why I love Red Letter Media so much.

Kelsey Shannon

I love how when Rich tells a joke and laughs, you can hear him saying the joke again under his laugh. HAHA! Rich is the best!

Aaron Rivera

It's so simple. Arthur has 6 letters, like Ronald I.e. Ronald Reagan who acted but everyone knows him for his work as governor and president where he was in charge, so that's how you know he's the writer director. Ben is what they called Obi-Wan Kenobi before they knew his true identity, it was a name he was pretending to be, pretending like an actor, so that's how you remember he's the actor.

Zuzia

for a second i thought that "jupiter" footage was just an extreme close-up of those yellow buildings from the warner bros intro. it's probably not, but that'd be really funny

Alex Beyer

Gay Taxi Driver, Travis Tickles is a gay man on the edge. Hillary Clinton has now blocked gay marriage for the last time in New York and he swore his revenge.

India Jackson

Learning how to steal from thrift stores is exactly the educational content I signed up for! Oh, I mean.... great video guys! Seriously though, thanks for the content. <3 :)

Reid Josephson

Ben and Arthur looks like the best gay softcore porn that Vitaly Versace never made. Hilarious video as always guys, thanks so much!

Heather Sejnow

From the previous tease, I thought perhaps you had gotten Mark Dodson to sit in on the panel and be the Gremlin (since he voiced it and Salacious Crumb)... But then I remembered you're RedLetter Media. And Mike likes to click a button under the table to make it move.

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

On an aesthetic level, this seems like a very slightly better-acted gay version of the definitely legitimate filmmaker (and book publisher) Vitaliy Versace's Born Into Mafia.

Leo Puppytime

This was amazing. I watched the movie yesterday and found it surprisingly entertaining. I think some of the editing and pacing was actually good. I was hoping you guys would mention the crazy lady in the restaurant and the fact that Arthur spends most of the movie, even while he murders the priest, in berkinstocks!

Frownpouch

I really enjoy the behind the scenes microbudget movie-making stuff. Would love to see more of it in your reviews, or in a different series.

Stephanie Anderson

That nail polish remover is right up there with the brown masking tape in Suburban Sasquatch. What an amazing movie! Thank you for a wonderful review.

Grogo

That seduction finale clearly inspired by scarface

Panda S

“He’s married to some bitch named Tammy.” 😂

Lisa

Twelve years of Catholic school did not prepare me for this.

sgl

I have to see this immediately.

Lee

Really hoping you guys can find a good data recovery specialist to get your stuff back. It might cost some of that sweet sweet YouTube coin, but it would be worth it. Incredible episode as always, love to watch you guys laugh and laugh along with you :) keep staying safe and protecting each other ♥️

Chris L

Should we start a GoFundMe to pay for an enterprise data recovery specialist? Depending on the value of what was lost. Or possibly to pay for a solid cloud backup for everything else going forward? Not sure how much space you'd need but if you have stuff going back close to 20 years I'm sure it's a lot. Bottom line, you shouldn't have to choose between going bankrupt and possibly losing important pieces of your body-of-work's history.

Kegan

That "Jupiter" footage looks more like Venus; one man's opinion.

Rhea

I feel bad for Random Gremlin, not being there for the screening but having to sit on the panel. Still managed to make some great points though, would love to see him invited back. Thrift stores really are gold for wardrobe/props/set dressing. Thanks for the uh... pricing tips.

Donald Haase

American Science and Surplus is fantastic. They're only in Wisconsin and Illinois but they have a website and if you sign up will send periodic catalogues with hand drawn renditions of all the items. I was going to get some surplus animatronic gear they had, but it seems it was all sold out ...

Lisa

The whole time watching this I kept reading the title as "Bea Arthur."

Mike St Louis

If anybody wants me, I’ll be at the Thrift Store. Thx

Bort Ward

It's a low budget flick, but it is not that terrible. Maybe I say that as I just rewatched Swamp Fox vs. White Diamond...or whatever its called.

Peter L

Fantastic episode! Great content and commentary. I love when y’all can take a ridiculous movie like this and dissect it in a way that’s entertaining without being mean-spirited. And Random Gremlin has great comedic timing.

Dez

I think you should name the Gremlin

everyman

We just watched this. Loved it! Never seen a spotlight episode before. Now youtube keeps showing me all the past spot light episodes! lol The Gremlin was REALLY freaking me out!

JonBlow

what a great gift for my birthday (when this was posted)

Bort Ward

This movie was low-budget and bad, but passable. Maybe the impact was softened by watching 'White Fox vs Swamp Cobra' (or whatever its called) immediately prior to this episode. No clue why that "movie" was even made.

Munchman

Over past coupla years you guys have inspired me to make movays, but I was only inspired. This review made me realise it's time to stop saying I'm inspired and Actually start making Something, coz if this trash movie (Ben and Arthur) can get made and be put out there for the world to view... Why can't I? Hey maybe one day I'll even be featured on Re:View... or more likely, Best of the Worst...
