Half in the Bag: Prey

Mike and Jay discuss Prey, which is an attempt to reboot the Predator franchise. Not to be confused with The Predator, which was an attempt to reboot the Predator franchise. Or Predators, which was an attempt to reboot the Predator franchise. Fart in a jar.

Nice! I can watch it all over again!

Amanda Foster

I smell a Grumpy Old Men remake starring Mike and Jay. I am 100% all for this!

Uncomfortable Cat

Damn! Wasn't expecting this. So no Boys S3 talk then, eh?

Ronan de Silva

This might be your greatest thumbnail ever. Really enjoyed the review too!

Great video, fellas. Just my random thoughts: 1) I'm happy I'm not the only one who thought that actress looks like Aubrey Plaza 2) I like the blend of Mike's natural voice and his Plinkett. 3) Jay saying, "I hate the world we live in" has to sum up so many of my feelings about life nowadays, lol.

Kevin Young

I watched it earlier. I'm curious what had to be removed or upset the great YouTube

Steve Webber

Only 10 minutes in but this stuff is hilarious. Nice job fellas.

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

"All I know is that the world's a fucking mess and I hate everything." This is why I watch: you speak my language. One of you should make that into a political campaign slogan and run for governor of Wisconsin. I'd vote for you if I lived there. Stoklasa/Bauman 2028 (with Rich Evans as Chief of Staff actually running things)! EDIT: Include the long wet fart. That part really hit home for me.

There is a Predator comic book set during the Civil War -- Predator: Hell Come a Walkin'. Also, in Prey, it seemed clear to me that this predator was also a younger, less experienced hunter that was also going through their proving, paralleling Naru. I think that is why it was dropped off on its own and it built up from smaller animals at first.

Tristan Hardy

Amazing video. I could listen to hours and hours of Mike bullshitting movie plots

Capulet

great review as always. what took me out of the movie for a second was when Naru managed to pull the Predator into the mud pit. yes he was injured but i'm pretty sure some sort of simple machine would be needed for that feat. that and there was really no evidence for her to observe concerning how its mask and the spike cannon interfaced. ultimately, a fun, different entry that was a little sloppy around the edges.

Mike, you really don't have to play devil's advocate, none of these types of 'critics' are arguing in good faith. They're mad because girl exists, or person of color exists, or gay or trans person exists, and how dare they. Any complaints they have can be stripped back to that. Jay's got the right idea.

Kellic

Like I said on the other post. If you guys are looking for Knights vs Predator. Check out Predator Dark Ages on Youtube. Its fan made but damn it isn't one of the best fan made films I've seen.

David S. Grop

What do Prey and Apocalypse Now Redux have in common? It was fine until the French showed up.

Bill Wilson

I can only recommend the show Legion. It stars Amber Midthunder, Aubrey Plaza and Hamish Linklater (the priest from Midnight Mass), as well as a bunch of additional talent. More importantly, they're in service of a strong artistic direction.

Leon Illiann

The movie confused me; Does this mean Mr. Plinkett can fix his VCR by himself now? I guess we'll have to wait for the next one to see where they're taking the franchise.

Marvin Falz

Thank you, sincerely, because your intros and your discussion confirmed an insight I had a couple of days ago. Not so many years ago I would just watch movies based on their story. Am I interested or not? Today, with that constant barrage of political framing in German and American media plus myriads of reactions to the news, I often avoid movies when I get the impression they're, let's say, politically influenced. But, just like the story of Heathcliff and Catherine in Wuthering Heights isn't about patriarchy and matriarchy hating each other because their love for each other is too intense, Prey isn't about the matriarchy taking over the patriarchy. I really need to watch less news and commentary on the news. I want to watch more of the new Half in the Bag storyline. :)

Kurt

I'd be on board for a show where you discuss how much you hate the world we live in.

Greg Santucci

I loved the conversation, the movie plot riffing, everything. A++++, will watch repeatedly, as repeatedly as I watch your BOTW and black spine content, you guys rock!

DonMac

The only change I noticed in this upload was, about half way through it, the Native American Indian guy's right arm getting cut off by the predator is now pixelated to cover it up. The first upload actually showed it.

Manuel Johnen

"Native American Aubrey Plaza" THANK YOU! That's who Amber Midthunder reminds me of, too... and that also explains, why I do find her totally hot... <3 Also, "Prey" is the "Tremors 4" of the "Predator" franchise... make of that what you will...

Scottie Wottie

I felt like the predator in this film was using weaponry on par with the humans to make it a challenge. There are shots of it analyzing the spears of its prey then it attacks with darts, likewise with the net.

Renus Dewberry

This isn't Predator movie is just two fat guys talking about ET and where do I get Adderall? I love you.

DonMac

"The 13th Warrior" is better than "Prey". A lot better.

Kevin Smith

This doesn’t have anything to do with the quality of Prey (haven’t seen it yet), but I always thought the “concept” of the original wasn’t “Alien shows up in specific period in history (Vietnam War)” but “Action movie interrupted by sci-fi horror” and I thought Predator 2 carried this forward with “Cop movie interrupted by sci-fi horror”. I kind of wish Predator movies would carry that idea forward instead of just throwing a Predator into a series of different time periods.

Erik Stevenson

Great review; I thought Prey was quite good and Midthunder was excellent; she definitely needs more roles after this.

andrew

I love how you guys censored the arm dismemberment shot in one part of your video but not the other.

Top Hat Monkey

I enjoyed the movie a lot. I'm no fan of political statements in movies, but geez guys (the ones complaining about wokeness). Don't be the boy who cried "woke". She didn't overpower the predator, she didn't do anything that I couldn't suspend my disbelief over. She was persistent and got lucky, and the predator under-estimated her until it was too late. I bought into it. Oh and if we're talking period pieces, have the predator show up on the Titanic to pick off a few hundred doomed humans. He could dispatch the insufferable Jack Dawson, and stand at the bow of the ship with Kate Winslett. Or maybe prevent the JFK assasination. The mind boggles. Ok, time for my Adderall.

Shane C

This film was surprisingly good, hope it gets a bluray release

David S

Seeing giant Jay in the wheelchair reminds me of Ken Griffey Jr. near the end of ‘Homer At the Bat’ when he’s rolled in to the hospital room suffering from gigantism after overdosing on ‘Brain & Nerve Tonic’.

Manuel Johnen

Will there be a "Mike and Jay talk about..." for friend of the show Patton Oswalt's "I Love My Dad", which I hear is amazing...? :)

Amy L Jones

Another good 'un. You guys give me hope for humanity. Long Live the Middle Ground!

Mike Verta

Is there any damnation greater than praise stemming from fatigue, apathy, and lowered expectations? The point at which you're just so utterly worn down and despirited by the end of an era than you just can't fight it anymore is the get-busy-living-or-get-busy-dying crossroads.

Tim Kocher

The whole ET riff at the end was delightful 😂😂😂
