Of course these old whites gotta talk about Milwaukee's most famous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer! Mike and Jay sit down for a frank and honest discussion about Dahmer, the new Netflix ten hour long series thing that stars Evan's Peter as the notorious cannibal serial killah. ICYDK Dahmer was a creepy man from the past who lured gay men to his apartment and did terrible things to them after drugging them. He's kind of like Bill Cosby, but not like that at all. Except for the drugging part. And the getting caught part. Dahmer killed a bunch of men (and children technically) from the 70's to the 90's. He's pretty much every way a person can go wrong. But why make this filth again? Is it glorifying another serial killer? Is there some sincerity to their claims of wanting to shine a light on the often forgotten victims in this nightmare? Only Ryan Murphy's bank account knows the answer to that question! So roll out the blue barrels of fun, sit back and enjoy your favorite loose meat sandwich and watch Jay and Mike stumble through this mess of a video. Trigger warning: EVERYTHING.

I'll watch this, but I'm starting to feel like this serial killer shit is exploitative and I couldn't bring myself to watch the series.

BGarri1933

Hell yeah!! I've been waiting to hear your guy's thoughts on this show!! Happy Friday!

AshesBoomstick

Yaay! I wonder how you guys felt about Dahmer. I had to watch an episode a day, basically, because it was 1) slow, 2) well written and performed, 3) disturbing and difficult to watch. But it did an excellent job presenting the victims as more than just "victim fodder", and Dahmer's father was astoundingly relatable. Thanks, Richard Jenkins!

Mike looks more and more like an elderly person.

benoles20

so still no batman, huh?

The best retelling of that whole Jeffrey Dahmer ordeal for me is still Macabre's 2000 record "Dahmer"... one of the best and funniest concept metal albums ever...

Pure speculation here, but I wonder if Murphy wanted to do a kind of “Monster” series and it be a spiritual successor to that Patti Jenkins film about Aileen Wuornos—also called ‘Monster.’ I could see him and his franchise-inclined mind thinking of an anthology that could focus on a serial killer each new season. Maybe they could’ve gotten into legal troubling just titling it “Monster: The (insert serial killer name) Story?” Who knows. That’s pure speculation, but having seen most of Murphy’s oeuvre and him really taking advantage of that 300 mil deal with Netflix, it would not surprise me. Honestly, he should’ve just left the serial killer genre alone after those serial killer dinner party episodes of AHS: Hotel. If anything is exploitative towards victims of tragedies, it’s those episodes of that season. Pure schlock.

Oh, Mike. Soccer moms love serial killers. The main thing is, what you give up and what you get when you become a domesticated person. The cost is your freedom; the ostensible benefit is your safety. If something challenges your preconception that the decision you've made gives you legitimate security, it's captivating. It taps into fear about absolutely fundamental choices you've made.

You guys are.... so beautiful.... To meeeeeee..... 🎵

I just laughed so hard at around the 14 minutes mark... great piece of editing there from the woman with the glasses to the picture of another woman with glasses, that looks exactly like her. "...this could be my daughter, this could be my friend..." CUT "...this could be ME..." XD

Benway23

Thank you for your work.

I hope there's a sequel called "Dahmer 2 - Monster 2: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Part II"

I agree with Mike’s sentiment. I got tired of the show after the first couple episodes and took a few days off almost giving up on the series, but then all these trending articles were like ‘You must watch episode 6 Silenced. Most power episode seen in years.’ I was like aight, and the second half was much better for the reasons discussed despite still having some faults.

Kerri Lewis

The title of this episode is hilarious.

I can’t help but noticed that all these serial killer series are based on ones who are no longer with us. So maybe these creators feel that since Jeffery Dahmer and Ted Bundy are dead it’s okay to exploit their horrendous crimes. I’d bet if they did that with some killer who’s still alive they’d get even more side glances. I have mixed feelings about pilgriming to places where serial killers frequented or whatever. P.S. I couldn’t help but notice it looks like it’s hot in the studio during this discussion cuz Mike and Jay look pretty sweaty lol. 🤷🏻‍♀️

DonMac

"Did you hear Jeffrey Dahmer escaped from prison?" "Yeah, he was last seen heading down to Waco, Texas with a jar of BBQ sauce." (early-'90s joke)

Soccer moms fucking LOVE serial killers.

Jay knows what "thirst posts" are cause he's probably been the subject of them considering all the sentiments expressed about his glow up from the earlier days of RLM.

I don't think that today's humans are much different than the ones before us. But today's world might be a bit different since psychology, psychiatry, and psychotherapy have come a long way since the late 1800s. But I assume that most people still don't have an understanding of an extreme person like Dahmer, simply because they're normal, and they don't spend time to study the insane mind. So, I suppose, Dahmer could have only find help from someone like a therapist, who he could have talked to in a secure environment. If he himself felt that there's something wrong with him. Apart from this, it's unlikely that he would have find somebody with the ability to help him. Another, even bigger and much more outspoken monster was Hitler. He wrote everything out in Mein Kampf. The people who read the book either didn't take him seriously, or took him seriously and joined his cause. Most people were unaware of Mein Kampf. During Hitler's rise a handful of people, intelligent and foresighted enough to understand where the National-Socialist movement was leading up to, spoke out publicly and weren't understood and / or silenced. Or people closed their eyes from reality. Looking into today's world, I see similarities. But I don't want to end this argument on a gloomy outlook. I started to rewatch the original Star Trek series beginning with The Cage, and I watched the Star Trek feature films The Voyage Home, The Final Frontier, and The Undiscovered Country. Great stuff, helpful to steer the ship through this turbulent times. :)

When ye did the missing females montage all I could think of was when is the next plinkett review

As a middle aged soccer mom, I feel both seen and called out.

Excellent job with this episode Mike. Thank you so much. Jay, women watch true crime because we need to protect ourselves and look out for red flags when trying to date men. There's a lot of very bad dangerous men out there and we need to know what to look for in order to be safe. I want to know if someone's going to hurt me or if they genuinely want to be with me. I have been victimized and I have always watched true crime and mysteries and it helps me. It's therapeutic to me.

I didn’t learn shit!.. But now I know..

I think Jay bringing up Gabby and the other missing women was in really poor taste but most likely due to lack of information rather than trying to be edgy. The only reason the Gabby case picked up steam was because of the social media nature of their ill-fated trip and how that meant armchair internet detectives felt they could crack the case through their geo-tagged posts. For years I kept hearing that same lie: that if a pretty blonde goes missing the whole country is on the case while everyone else is ignored. But the sad truth is pretty blonde women go missing all the time, almost nonstop. Look at the list of missing women and you'll see hundreds of faces and names you've never heard of. FWIW if Gabby was the same race but weighed 200lbs more then ya there probably wouldn't have been much of a hunt for her.

Jay’s vocal patterns are genuinely nervous. Good.

“Space Cop 2: Chasing Dahmer”. Space Cop must rescue Jeffery’s victims by feeding him future hot dogs made of Chinese people and horse penises. If Jay shaved and bleached his hair im sure he could pull off the look.

Mike says Dahmer was bludgeoned with an allen wrench…. That must’ve taken goddamn forever!

If you’re interested in a (fictional) depiction of someone with a proclivity to murder trying to go to therapy, I recommend The Patient.

I introduced my 11yo son to RLM recently. He's been binging most days since. Today on the way home from the supermarket, I told him thisbhad been posted (he's watched the series). His response was,

Thirst post what's a thirst post 🫣

M. McCaffery

Would like to see a sequel in which Billy Eichner of “Bro’s” gets picked up by Dahmer.

howdy

glad you gave the ethics of true crime some real consideration, really thoughtful discussion from yall for this one. ty.

At 38:38 Jay is wondering how many bodies Mike has hidden in the walls.

Masa

Has anyone even mentioned that Evan Peters is playing the gay lead character while not actually gay himself?! The disgrace!! Can't believe you didn't call out the production! Shame!

DonMac

I made it through 3 episodes of "Dahmer" before I couldn't take any more and had to switch to something more lighthearted and less grim. So I watched the original "I Spit on Your Grave" instead.

Gavin Redmond

Bloody Hell. The point made about missing white women hits hard. Well done.
