Awesome! Hopefully Evil Dies Tonight ™

Vampire

Need a hell raiser review. Easily the darkest film of the year!

Benjamin

Whoo hoo! Looking forward to watching this after I get off of work.

Manuel Johnen

Goddamn it, Jamie Lee Curtis was so hot in the 80s...

cynthia

Yessss! So happy to see this - I suffered watching this movie last weekend and suffered again by having to wait since then to hear what you both have to say about it lol.

Manuel Johnen

Fuck you, Mike! Fuck you right up your sssstupit ear!

Manuel Johnen

Fuck you, too, Jay! Fuck both of you!

Helena

Ahhhhhhh I can't wait! I've been waiting to see the movie until this review dropped

Dustin Pinney

I haven't gotten far enough in the review to see if you go back on this, but I am happier than I should be to find out that you also enjoyed this movie. I was starting to feel like the only one.

Bearsinjars

ill be honest I like Sam Adams Octoberfest

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

I honestly didn't even know this movie existed until you posted this. I thought all the "evil ends tonight" comments on the last post were just referenves to the previous movie...which, I mean, they were, but I didn't know why. Or I thought it was because Halloween was coming up. I'm stoopid

Bill Wilson

That subverted my expectations in more ways than one. Just too bad having to shove Mike in the meat grinder. Also, the end of Halloween Ends.

Lionel Mandrake

All this and a Bonus Plinkett Analsis, too!

TizMcFitz

I've never disagreed more with RLM

I think the new Halloween trilogy would've been better if they had essentially swapped the 2nd and 3rd movies.... After the 2018 "Halloween", the 2nd movie follows the same beats as "Halloween Ends", just add that everyone thinks Michael is dead because Laurie's burning house exploded due to dynamite she lined it with. Then the bad babysitter guy from "Halloween Ends" has the same story. And he's the one who finds Michael Myers still alive. So Michael starts killing again and then kills Laurie's daughter before the credits as Laurie is horrified the boogeyman she thought was dead is back. And then the 3rd movie trilogy finale is the returned Michael on a killing spree, like in "Halloween Kills" and it ends with Laurie finally killing Michael. In short, swap the movies, better trilogy.

Derek Jolstead

I feel so validated. I haven’t seen anything but vitriol towards this movie since I saw it, but I really enjoyed it and I’m glad to see I’m not actually the only one. (Whether or not it’s genuinely “good”, that’s a different question.)

Ina

Whew lol

I've watched the original Halloween a couple of months ago for the first time ever, and I thought it was okay. What I really liked was how the camera moves around, and how the environment changes while the camera is moving. But Halloween didn't make me interested to see more of Michael Myers. Halloween Ends now looks like an interesting movie, and the Plinkett review makes it look even more interesting.

Mike, you don't have to apologize. You guys always bring your honest opinions and the funny. Certainly that's all I ask of you guys. Even when I may disagree, you guys always bring a new idea or twist to the discussion. Going over the reviews for Black Adam, I feel like there's more discussion to be had about playing it safe with all these warmed over franchises versus actually doing something different with the material. It seems like this film succeeded (until the final 15 minutes) in trying something different. Now compare that to the Last Jedi... Anywho, see you in two years when Halloween is rebooted and Michael's spirit infects Corey so somehow he's the new Michael. Yes, Corey somehow survived. Also the thorn cult is back.

Lowell Bartholomee

You liked it longer than I did, but have to agree it's my 2nd favorite HALLOWEEN movie. Was really vibing with it for a long time and wished it had stuck to its guns better. It felt like they were retroactively showing how they could have veered off from Michael in the original Part III and pulled it off. Not that it would have done much business in '82 either way. But a movie with a kid sinking into evil while this legend is maybe living off screen somewhere is a great idea.

I loved this review. It's nice to hear my favorite serial killer talk about something that makes him happy for a change. I think I'll rewatch the titanic review, actually. Been awhile since I've seen it and it's got the same vibe.

Erin Dougherty

Thank goodness. I loved this movie and thought it made a great third film to follow the first two. (That is, John Carpenter's first two). After reading the reviews I got worried because I just can't understand how anyone could complain about introducing a new character. What? So every film executive is right?

DonMac

All Oktoberfest beers taste similar and all are great.

James Van Sickle

After watching your talk, it probably would have worked better if the kid had instead found Myers dead body in the sewer rather than a living Myers. The ending of the second film would have made more sense too. Myers got mortally wounded and crawled off into some sewer to die. So, the town thinks he is still alive and the kid exploits that by getting revenge on his bullies dressed as Myers. Would have also been very poetic (so it rhymes!). The fear of Michael Myers destroyed his future so now he is using that same fear against everyone who bullied him. Would not surprise me if that was the original intent but studio producers freaked out over the idea of a Halloween film without Michael Myers killing people.

Drew Mancini

These guys said exactly what I said. About 20-25 minutes into the movie I told my wife “uh oh, we have a problem. I think I might like this movie.” And then when the last 15-20 minutes kicked in I said “okay, this is stupid again.” And I rewound the meat grinder scene and demanded my wife look at how stupid it was. I couldn’t believe it. It was vindicating to hear the guys echo all of this.

DonMac

Evil dies tonight! ...but first, we'll show an entirely different movie for the initial 90 minutes.

Juan Calvo

Come on Jay, where is that clip from In the Mouth of Madness at 30:15. John Carpenter... god bless him for never fully explaining the themes in his movies.

Kellic

We've been seeing a lot less of Rich. Everything OK?

Dion Turner

That’s awesome, glad you enjoyed it (well most of it). I’m happy that someone else saw a ‘Christine’ connection, which may or may not actually be intended.

Rhea

I liked the mini plinkett review at the end, I wonder why you guys decided to throw that in there

DonMac

So Michael Myers shows up and takes over the last 10 minutes of "Halloween Ends"... and Mr. Plinkett shows up and takes over the last 10 minutes of the "Halloween Ends" HITB review... ...does that mean Mr. Plinkett is the boogeyman?

Amanda Foster

Brain: wait to watch this till AFTER you watch Halloween Ends… Heart: fuck that! Watch this at least 20 times till you actually get around to watching the movie weeks after it’s been released and when you finish The Office for the billionth time.

Marvin Falz

Great video! The Plinkett review was an awesome surprise, the fan edit* (with a gunshot->fade to black transition) is interesting, because it ends on a cliffhanger where it seems like Laurie Strode has murdered Corey Cunningham, and you could make a movie based on that, if studio execs don't interfere. The town is again troubled with serial murder, and everybody thinks it's Laurie Strode, who now has to fight against that stigma like Corey did. So you can show some exciting murders, but also have a redemption plot. *[EDIT: I just watched to check: those are two different fan edit endings]

Henrik Hultin

Best edited HITB ever? Great review, I have to look up this "Hello ween" tv series.

Johnson Dunn

Didn't watch the movie, but it seems like it would have been a great set up for the kid to kill Mike Meyers himself. Seeming like he saves the girl he loves, but then he absorbs the rest of Mike's evil and then continues murdering her. Then it would make more sense for Laurie to show up and save the day

Aliciasheesh

I love film class with Mr Plinkett! Great review guys!

Stevie Eilish

My whole screening clapped after the film finished, im in the UK, only ever seen that once

David S

I enjoyed this movie as well. The character of Corey was interesting. Once he shoved that knife in his throat all the fun got sucked out of the movie. I didn’t think they’d actually wrap up this franchise with a meat grinder scene, so I was excited about the prospect of new Michaels emerging. The Jason series tried that though and they immediately went back to the old formula. I was curious to see if Corey would try to save his dad in that one scene since he was actually nice to him, but nope. Good work Corey actor you were far more entertaining than Michael himself.

andrew

I keep thinking Corey looks like teenage Clark Kent from 1978 Superman.

d0nkatron 5000

This movie is just BEGGING for a director’s cut that fixes the ending and tweaks a couple small things. Would make it a cohesive and intelligent horror movie and a worthy sequel to the first one or two Halloween films.

schopi

Haven't watched the HitB episode yet. But having seen the movie now I gotta say at least it's not as atrocious as Halloween Kills. This one has at least a plot and some suspense and I found myself not bored the whole way through. But doing something a little different and subverting expectations is not an achievement in itself (ask Rian Johnson). And I found myself shaking my head and mumbling 'god, this is stupid' several times. In the end this is a baffling entry to the franchise that is ultimately frustrating and doesn't work for me. Either focus on a final Michael Myers/Laurie Strode face off or focus on the apprentice story and introduce a new Michael Myers. Instead it does neither....or better it does both half-assed. Halloween Ends? We're not that lucky I'm sure. Edit: After watching the episode, I would have liked the movie much more too if, as mentioned above, they actually followed through with the passing-of-the-torch story. As Mike suggested, have the Corey character's body sit up when Michael Myers is killed (or better yet, Corey's body has just disappeared when they return from killing Myers). But the way it is, the setup that takes up 75% of the movie's time does not pay off, and then they cram in a rushed (and unintentionally funny in parts) little showdown.
