e-Bay listing for Nukie: https://www.ebay.com/itm/225324479952 There's been a growing trend in VHS collecting, which has created an entirely new market for professional VHS grading, very similar to what's been happening with video game cartridge grading. As the owner's of 1000s of crappy VHS tapes, we were curious to dig deeper into this trend, as well as examine what makes something valuable and collectible. This all culminated in us taking a deeper look into our collection of Nukie tapes. Everything always leads to Nukie. Glad to see my Death Ring tape showing up!

Conor

I wish they'd put me in that wood chipper

Outfoxies

I hope they're going to auction off the Shards of Unworthy Nukies to charity as well, and that some soul attempts to use them to reconstruct the movie from shredded tape.

Aaron Austin

What an absolutely wonderful video! When did you monsters grow hearts?!

Shane C

Great job hope video makes a lot of money for charity

Spamwise

I'm really rooting for this auction to beat $75k. If there were a crowdfunding effort to buy the video and then send it back to RLM I'd chip in.

Bort Ward

If you are going to destroy VHS tapes via chipping, please please put on a respirator.

Paladin

$69k bid as of 8:51 PST, let’s go!!

USS BATTLESHIP

Wow. Some really big bids! And an excellent premise for a video, men. I wholly support alternative style videos. Good job.

Nanci Frazier

I was just curious what Nukie tapes sell for on ebay. $50 for just the box, to over $100 for the tape in box. Seriously! So they just shredded $10k for our entertainment as well!

Guy Incognito

The same scumbag individuals and incestual insider-trading grading and auction companies who have recently ruined the fun of old video games collecting are now slithering their way into your hobby, movie buffs. Enjoy.

Ben Henry

What the fuck it's at 75k.....what is happening???

ressuiii

Also Sauna is Finnish thing Swedish have Bastu, same thing but get facts right...

Jason DeMaria

I’m getting way to involved with checking the eBay bid every couple hours. So, they took the system and single-handedly overvalued Nukie and made a video explaining how they’d do it. Then, took the greed involved in the ‘scam’ and changed it to charity while exposing how ridiculous it all is. Genius?

Michael B. Miley

See me, feel me, Nukie // Help me, free me, Nukie.

Jordan L

It's working.. it's working

Heather Lam

Nukie will have a good home with some rich guy but there's nothing stopping the rest of us from making a donation in the memory of Nukie.

Patrick Brennan

This was good! Hope you can donate a few dollars for the homeless shelter Rich lives in also

Related: Cowboy Bebop episode “Speak Like A Child”.

With great Nukie comes great responsibility, and you fellas stepped up to the challenge admirably. For now, the bids have settled at just above the former highest VHS sale price. Whoever gets this tape will have paid the most for any VHS up to this point, except for blackmail payments for compromising material. Will that fact make this Nukie tape even more valuable on resale? Or would owning a copy of Nukie this expensive be blackmail material? If RLM wants to make extortion part of the experiment, St. Jude's and the Humane Society could reap even greater benefits.

Jesper Lindberg

As a father to a child with cancer, it warms my heart that RLM, in such a clever way, uses their wit to exhibit absurdities in such an entertaining way, and at the same time use it to remedy that other parents and children do not have to experience the destructive horrors and injustices that cancer brings with it. Even helping animals in need as well, is just beautiful. You guys are the most “cynical” warm-hearted entertainers on youtube, and I goddamn appreciate and love you guys so f’ing much!

Mathew Brown

Probably more Hollywood types, than we realize, watch RLM. Because these are some large numbers people are dropping for a VHS.

Disinterested Handjob

May not ship to Australia? Damn, I was about to trump all bidders with my own 100K entry...

Timothy Liebe

How much of a bid to get you to REVIEW NUKIE now that you've all finally seen it?

Lisa

This is fucking tremendous. Hope the bids are serious bc it's a good thing y'all are doing. Happy new year.

Eric Anderson

Wow at $75k, the auction for the Nukie tape is already going for more than the production budget of the film!

brad hawkes

Here because I saw the bids and lmao’d, good job guys 🙂👍

Dane Liergaard

Watching the eBay bids... Are there really this many whale subscribers?! $75k?!

schopi

Awesome, guys! Great idea, beautifully done. Take an at least questionable if not shady thing and use it for something good. And make an informative and super entertaining video about it. Happy new year, everybody!

Scott Inman

Well, I put up a bid on your Nukie tape when it was 25k ... and it's at $75,900 this morning. Wow. Well done, gentlemen, well done.

Sara Iyer

I work at an animal shelter and when you guys said Wisconsin Humane would get half of the proceeds I legit teared up, that amount of money is so huge! You guys are amazing and I really hope at least one of those bids is a real one hahaha I also hope you guys do some collabs with Wisconsin Humane, I'm sure especially after this they'd let you guys go and pet the dogs or stick Rich Evans in a room with a bunch of cats, stuff like that.

Arthur Bright

I’m still not sold on the bids being real - I hope they are, but I remain skeptical - but if they’re legit bidders, there should be another surge in activity in the closing hours of the auction. So we’re not topped out yet if these are real RLM-fan whales.

William Rieder

"K Foundation Burn a Million Quid", except "Nukie" has more inherent value than a British Pound

The Real Zam

Does the winner get the opportunity to view the secret "Dick the birthday boy" photos?

Mike St Louis

Over $80k! Too “rich” for my blood. Well done guys! Great video!

Alex

I love eccentric rich people.

Jason Scott

Nobody wants or needs my opinion, but has that ever stopped the Internet. I work in historical items for the Internet Archive (archive.org), which includes vintage printed and digital items, as well as scanning and digitization (and storage) of a lot of different media, including VHS tapes, which I've been curating and working with others to digitize (https://archive.org/details/vhsvault is an example.) I was delighted about a lot of discussions surrounding provenance, the subjectiveness of grading, and especially how much of the auction/art world is hype and scheming. And then you destroyed hundreds of tapes and containers, including many variants and different features. I totally get the bit. You're compelling people, you're smart, you're good at this, but I honestly thought the days of destroying stuff as part of the show was in the past, but I guess it isn't. With over a million souls watching everything you do, my concerns are twofold: - clone/copycat channels desperately trying to figure out your "secret sauce" (which is actually "have a lifelong friendship that brings joy to all involved") will also destroy old things to get clicks - people who watch this sort of thing and assume this means that historical materials are best shredded instead of shared to see if there's value or uniqueness to them. I've been incredibly entertained at where this channel goes, but this situation brings sourness to me, who spends all his time convincing people their "worthless" old media is worth saving. Again, I realize my position in the opinion tree, but I felt I wanted to share it.

Benjamin Forman IV

Me (yelling out of my apartment window): Hey! Hey, People, check this out! A respectful, polite and good-natured conversation between two people of differing opinions on the Internet! My neighbors: ... Me: I just wanted to share something that made me feel good, and not the usual reading of Thus Spake Zarathustra at 2:30am! My neighbors: ...

Minimag

I just realized. How are they going to do any more Junka episodes without the Nukie tapes?!

Matthew Chambers

And here I am watching the final minutes of the auction to see if anyone raises the bid instead of talking to my kids.

Michael Schmidt

And regular, non-graded nukie tapes are all bidding in the thousands. WTF

Michael Schmidt

I feel bad for whomever donated a Nukie tape; you could have sold that jawn for like $2000!

Amy L Jones

Congrats and Well done! You guys are the best! Hearts o gold, all of ya. Even you, Mike!

DonMac

I think the guidelines say that to properly dispose of 'Nukie' videos, they have to be thrown into the burning fires of Mount Doom.
