two old clowns talk about star trek more.

Matt Sandwich

Dear Mike, please also have a hoodie with a Pakled and the words "Make It Go"

JC Superstar

I can’t even watch it if it’s good. 1-2 were so bad that they infect everything after them - however good - like Original Sin.

Katy

30 minutes in and I don't think I've ever seen this much TOS from you guys before <3

Keith Feinstein

Oh, please please please do a re:review of TMP the directors cut with Rich.

Malavika Sasikumar

A couple online reporters and reviewers I know, were given access to the first 6 episodes by Paramount+ last week. I wish these two guys had been allowed to as well; would’ve made for so much fun + interesting commentary. But they may’ve ticked off TPTB from previous episodes. 😕

Banta

Funny how some people deal with trauma. I just gave up on Star Trek, Mike and Rich are content to watch another revenge storyline because it’s suddenly an improvement on what came before. I’m only going to watch this if their reviews are glowing. I really can’t get past the dark aesthetic and tedious high stakes, season long arcs. Even if everyone is more in character, I’m just exhausted with it.

JTruts

I don't know whether to root for a great series that you enjoy or more dumpster fire that I'll enjoy on your reviews. I'm going to go with the first tho, you deserve it. Also I hope you've seen the auralnauts parody of the trailers: https://youtu.be/9Mu1TMZZZrY

Damon Killian

A positive and hopeful Star Track review? This is it, end times.

run_away

So... out of curiosity for anyone watching the show: did they remember that Dr. Crusher is a doctor? She was always my favorite ST character, I know I'm alone in that lol. But I was riveted any time she was on screen as a kid, and now as an adult I have mad respect for Gates McFadden. She's mentioned in interviews that she was always irked by the fact that she was the only cast member who had martial arts training irl but never got to use it. So I'm assuming she has an ass-kicking scene in this. Which is great. Just hoping that they also remember she's a healer as well? She even had a medical flagship assigned to her in All Good Things. Like, she's a big deal in the medical community... or she's supposed to be.

Bill

SIdney La Forge is played by Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut. Mica Burton is playing his other daughter Alandra.

plop

You're god damn right. Thank god

Adam Atom Ant

My guess is that Rafi is talking to Dr. Bashir working for Section 31

andrew

You two talking Star Trek is always great content. By the way…IMDB now credits Ed Speleers as “Jack Crusher” for episode 1. I also had the clone thought after the genetic sequencing graphics in the end credits, and since the actor is a bit too old to be a 20-year old (last time Picard and Crusher were together per the episode). Then again, casting older actors as younger characters never stopped 90210 or Ralph Macchio.

andrew

Picard did show some affection for the D in the scene in “Starship Mine” when he did a final walk through the bridge.

DonMac

I predict this will boldly go where no season of 'Picard' has gone before and actually be good.

The Real Zam

Shouldn't this have been formatted as a BotW episode?

Kellic

I fear for the remaining sanity for these guys.

James Van Sickle

Mystery boy being cloned Jack Crusher would be the ultimate "Fuck Wesley" from the writers. Think about it. Your father dies. You grow up, go to Starfleet Academy, and make a career for yourself. Then while gone, you learn that your mom cloned your dead father and is raising him like a son. It's creepy and weird. Considering how much Wil Wheaton has been an embarrassing shill for every Picard season so far, I almost hope this theory is true. Personally, I think the kid is the son of Crusher and Picard. And that makes Picard or Crusher even worse people. Either Picard is some absent father who abandoned Crusher and his son, or Crusher is this terrible person who never bothered to tell Picard they had a child together. And yes, I know the trope of Picard not being great with kids. But Picard has always come across as the type of responsible person who would drop everything he is doing to try and be a good father to any son or daughter that came into his life. I have serious concerns this is some idea someone came up with as "cool" without thinking it all the way through. A common problem in Nu Trek.

James Van Sickle

Also, as a joke, Mike needs to invite Rich to do a Re:View of Star Trek: The Motion Picture and then make the episode really about Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.

Nada Leona Sheppard

I had absolutely no interest in watching this show again. I was so angry at them for making a 9yo Jean-Luc Picard blame himself for 80 years after his mother "hung" herself that I was pretty much done with it. That angered and upset me so much. But, when you guys said you'd review this season, I decided I wouldn't let you suffer alone. So I baked a batch of chocolate chip cookies, spent exactly as much on this episode as Jay did on those Bruce Willis movies you guys reviewed, and sat and watched it. I am more jaded than you are, I guess, because I found a lot of issues with the episode, but I do have a speculation -- I think that the bird-faced aliens are going to turn out to be the sleep-abducting aliens from the TNG episode Schisms (S6:E5). That's my (likely completely wrong) prediction.

Ethan Dragon

would love to see a re re:View of TMP. and the rest of TOS movies, actually

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

No good villain? Have you guys forgotten the absolute classic TNG episode MASKS?!? Masaka is waking! How exciting!

Dion Turner

Yeah, seems perfectly ok which would be a massive step up. That whole ‘red lady’ mystery and the pay off of what it was seems really dumb… but not as dumb as ‘we’ve come to a crime scene 12 hours later and walked around the corner to find the person we were looking for eating batteries’ dumb. So improvement?

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

Wait wait wait...How does Picard still have so much of his old stuff -- like his Magical Dream Flute™ -- when he was so unattached to everything on the Enterprise D by the time of Generations that he didn't even care about the super-duper rare artifact (which he received from a man he said was "like a father" to him) that made him squee in the opening of The Chase?

Kellic

Oh you wonderfully hopeful fools. I see that Mike and Rich have succumb to Stockholm Syndrome. ;) On a serious note. I want to have hope.....but it's a fools hope. The Kurtzman Effect dictates that as long as Alex Kurtzman is within the production sphere of influence of Star Trek its going to suck harder than Ton 618.....For those who didn't know that is the largest known black hole in the universe.

Kellic

Calling it now. Lore is going to hack Picard's android body.

Stephanie Blue

Rooting for a course correction and you guys not setting yourself up for soul crushing pain here. It has to be better than seasions 1/2 it just has to be.

Marvin Falz

I like to think that when they wrote the pilot of TNG they took some elements of Kirk's and Spock's personality and swapped their functions as bridge officers; Picard has the more reserved, distant, and logically thinking personality. He prefers the fine arts and crafts, likes to be alone, and plays a flute (on which only melodies can be played but not chords). Riker has the more emotional, more personal, more jovial, but also logically thinking personality. Riker prefers, as far as I know, being in a crowd in a holodeck simulation where he can be passionate and live out his fantasy of mutual seduction with a holographic lady. I've seen that in season 1 or 2, but since I stopped watching somewhere in season 2 (yes, I know, season 3 is where TNG gets good), I don't know how the characters develop.

Michael P.

Thank you for the content!

schopi

Yay, another season of "I wish every night that I was in a grave"! Watch Mike and Rich Evans for the third time slowly have all hope drained out of them watching a season of a Star Trek show! Have they never heard of Einstein's supposed definition of insanity? ;-)

Mike St Louis

I suppose this is my fault. I’ve rewatched their Picard reviews many times because they were so amusing. Let’s do a Re:View of Strange New Worlds and see if that’s a hit too! Please!!

AllGoodNamesRGone

I feel like Jay when the heavy Star Trek talk starts, but Mike and Rich seem more bullish about season 3 so far. Here's hoping they can find more of the Star Trek that they love.

James Quinn

I hear good things about S3. Finally back on “trek” haha 😛 get it? I hear nothing but bad reviews for Antman3. So I don’t think I’ll be going. That makes 2 strikes after Black Panther2- the road ahead doesn’t look too good either. If Captain Marvel was soooo successful, they would have run out and made part 2, just like all the other MCU winners. Instead it’s called The Marvels and didn’t even get a Super Bowl spot (not worth the money) could the well be all dried up??? I would rather just see MORE best of worst 🤠

Jim Partridge

The enterprise figurine being dropped into the drink is a keychain I own. The packaging it came in was Star Wars the force awakens - I KID YOU NOT! You can Google enterprise keychain force awakens packaging for proof. Reminded me of the time they unboxed the ghostbusters figurine that said “REY” in masking tape. Felt like a full circle moment!

DonMac

A mystery is afoot! Mike's favorite Star Trek movie isn't 'The Wrath of Khan' but he did not say which one is. The TNG movies are already eliminated and ST5 too because no one likes that goofy bit of garbage. That leaves ST:TMP, ST3, ST4, or ST6 as his favorite. If we only had more clues to narrow it down further...

Jeff Clutterbuck

I was out in the show but Mike and Rich got me interested enough to watch it. I’m going to approach this how Mike suggested: ignore the movies and shows since All Good Things 😂

The Real Zam

A fun twist would be to make every even episode an homage to its respective movie.

Jeremy W

I just want these beautiful curmudgeonly hacks to let some joy into their black hearts.

Kyle Swinderman

YES. Give us all of the Star Trek with Mike and Rich talking about it. All the series and films. Get on it :)

Manuel Johnen

"Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" is still my second favorite movie in which Kim Cattrall has her "Star Trek VI"-hairdo. My favorite movie in which Kim Cattrall has her "Star Trek VI"-hairdo is of course "Split Second"... <3

John G

I thought it was a pretty good ep but a lot will hinge on how the overarching plot plays out, which as you guys pointed out many times has been uh a bit of a weakness on this show... I liked the rest of the previous cast better than you guys (except Elnor) and there's something a little desperate about ditching them and adding the old cast but as long as they give the old cast good stuff to do it will be fine.

Thomas

The iceberg of dumb is still under water. I think it’s a giant rope a dope.

Paul Scott

I've never watched an episode of Picard, yet I've watched all of Mike and Rich's reviews. It's great, I've seen enough to know it's not for me and had a few laughs. I don't have to watch Picard, or Marvel movies or one of Mike's spooky horror films where an exorcism goes wrong and the ghost of a nun ends up inhabiting a creepy doll which is then donated to an orphanage for psychic children, Part II. The RLM shows even meant I didn't feel regret for not seeing Rise of Skywalker as I had seen all the Star Wars films at the cinema since I was a kid, even after I stopped enjoying them as I sort of felt obliged, or like I was addicted to something I knew was damaging me. I have beaten the cycle of hope and inevitable disappointment. Thank you, RLM.

Kitty

Kirk bones Spock you say?

DonMac

I rewatched the Picard S3 first episode again, and - wow! - are the Raffi scenes terrible. Really, really terrible in a very nuTrek way. Why the hell did they keep her character in this season at all??? She definitely drags the episode down everytime she's on screen. They should've dumped her like the rest of the previous 'Picard' cast. And it was so dumb that Dr. Crusher used such an incredibly obtuse way to contact Picard. That he got her message at all is practically a miracle. Lucky Picard still had his old com badge nearby and it still worked. Lucky Picard remembered a decades-old password. Lucky Riker wasn't on the pizza baking planet with Troi and instead was on Earth getting drunk with Picard and he knew about the secret Borg +3 code, without which her message is useless. Such convenient coincidences where everything magically lines up that's so typical of nuTrek bad writing. But, aside from that, the rest of the episode was fairly good and entertaining, so I really hope that this was the weakest episode of the season and the season gets better from here on out.

MikeTheGamerGuy

i'm not sure Mike and Rich are as intimately familiar with DS9 as they are TNG but I would like to see them discuss some episodes from that. Also interested in what their opinions on ENT are, I like it for the most part but I know it's controversial within the wider fan base.

Gavin Redmond

Thanks a fucking bunch Mike. Now I have Life is a highway stuck in my head.

Aliciasheesh

Ooh since Rich wishes he could have been on the re:view of Star Trek the motion picture, maybe that calls for a commentary track! 😊🖖🤞
