Robocop 2 - re:View

As you all know, Colin from Canada has returned to the fine city of Milwaukee. After surviving a horrifying plane crash, Colin came right to the RLM studio to talk about Robocop 2 with Mike. Colin and Mike have never done a review before, mainly because Mike is a stupid. BUT this time Colin said, “Mike, let’s talk about a movie that’s on your intelligence level, Robocop 2!” And Mike agreed. They have created a review for the ages with this newest video product from the RLM production teams. Robocop 2 is a film that has often been confused with Truffaut’s “The 400 Blows”. Not compared to but confused with. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s been documented Robocop fires his gun exactly 400 times in the film? Perhaps due to the fact the both films have a rebellious male youth character? It’s quite the little mystery actually, but it has made for a few awkward screenings when people show up to Truffaut’s 1959 French new wave masterpiece dressed in Robocop cosplay. This has happened hundreds of times all over the world and we’re actively trying to determine if this is a case of some kind of mass confusion or an elaborate ( and very well concealed) prank. The rub is that the inverse has happened as well. Arthouse snobs and some elderly have shown up to Robocop 2 screenings aghast at what they see. These screenings happen in beer-soaked college town theaters. Most times at midnight and filled with rowdy crowds ready to yell at the screen. The art snobs grab their scarves and run out of the theater minutes after the film has begun. Usually with soiled diapers. Panting and crying to theater owners, fans of the black and white art film demand their money back. What is causing this bizarre confusion across our world? We may never find out the answer to this question. We want answers! But anyways, Robocop 2 is the sequel to Robocop 1. Robocop is basically in the same exact adventures. He does go around and do Robocopping to the local citizens of Minnesota, Michigan (near Milwaukee). He fires his dumb gun at criminals who are foolish enough to fire at him first. Does they not know bullets bounce off him. He moves slow, so just run away. Or sneak up behind him and cover his eye crack with a nice piece of duct tape. Or bip bang zoom get up on him and spray paint right over his eye crack. Bam! If he don’t see then he can’t see you, idiot. I could crime around Robocop any day. But Robocop also has his struggles. The lady gives him woke directives that turn him into a wimpy loser. He doesn’t want to kill people indiscriminately anymore. She does this so that she can push her terrible idea or “Robocop 2” up the corporate ladder. A cobbled together hulking invincible robot filled with machine guns that operates under the control of a brain that belonged to a drug addicted psychopath. What a great idea!

Still only memory of this movie is not even my memory. It’s of my late father taking me big brother to see this movie when he was like five or 6 years old lol!! Then my mom not evening knowing or remembering him doing that lol Side note: not sure I should mention this or not with the risk of him seeing it but since I’m having a shit Monday and it’s only 8am I’m gonna just do it. I had a very suggestible dream about Jay last night that let’s just say made me wake up very happily. So I miss the sex pervert lol!!

Finally... the re:View for a mediocre sequel to one of the greatest movies ever made... <3

Lee Noble

Inject it into my veins. Or was that Robocop 3?

John Kott

I'm looking forward to watching this. I wonder if these gentlemen were as freaked at as I was when seeing the montage of prototype failures.

Manuel Johnen

By the way, Colin's right, Poledouris' great score is vital to the franchise... say about "RoboCop 3" what you want, but at least it got THAT right... edit: The score from "RoboCop 2" is not quite as terrible as the spaghetti western music they did fot the "Prime Directives" mini series later, though...

So, Mike is really into designer drugs, it seems...

I remember I liked "Robocop 2" on its original theatrical release. And then I saw it again a decade later on DVD and instantly regretted buying it, asking myself "why did I think this was good?" Two decades later, watching it a third time pre this re:view, I like it a bit better now.

42:58 was that a slow mouseclick to add some oomph to Mike's soundeffects? 😄

Tomas

Always hated the star trek 4 score, one of reasons it's my least favourite of the original moobies, I think the composer was a day time TV composer

Absolutely classic Mike video description that no one reads. He seems to save all his thoughts that “normal” people post on social media and hides them in the last place people would think to cancel him. I’m onto you though and my letter of intent to sue will be forthcoming once I figure out how to upload a YouTube video.

I remember I once went to a screening of The 400 Blows and I was the only one that showed up in a Robocop costume. It was embarrassing.

There are probably around 100 people commenting the same thing, but I don't have time to check. I think Phil Tippett gave an intricate design to Robocop 2 as a deterrent for people to create knock off toys, like they did with ED 209, although they still managed to do it. Also another thing there might be thousands of comments saying the same thing at this point, Robocop can run or walk a little faster, as demonstrated in the first movie when dodging the truck that crushes into the toxic waste container.

Casual Kaiju

I really appreciate Colin showing respect for Phil Tippett several times in this. Would love to see a re:View of Mad God, probably as part of the "least viewed episode" sub-series.

AllGoodNamesRGone

Great stuff, guys. Just a big thank you for all the laughs and entertainment you've brought into our lives.

Mike casually ignores the existence of “Into Darkness.” Well done.

Eric Anderson

I didn’t realize Irvin Kershner directed Robocop 2. If you’re gonna pick a director for a sequel, can’t go wrong with that guy. Worked out pretty dang well for Star Wars.

MeleeDuck

I'm sure this has been asked before, but is there any way we could get uncensored videos on the Patreon? I understand needing to comply with youtube regulations, but censoring something like robocop is just painful. It's like watching Riker cook scrambled eggs.

Marvin Falz

"He went as the Detroit mayor for Halloween." 😂

Stan Jonathan Keller

We could really use a RoboCop in Los Angeles…and Portland…and Seattle…and New York…definitely in Chicago…but we are all good in Bismarck.

DonMac

The thing in "Robocop 2" that always stands out to me is how the Nuke drugs are in standard eye drop containers, just with red liquid instead of clear. And when they pretend to inject it in the neck, it looks to me like they're doing it wrong by not dripping it into the eyes.

Frazzled Doo

42:21 “are we the baddies?” Mitchel&Web?

The Cult of the Wyrm

Yes not using the Robocop theme was a major error. It's like if they didn't use the Indiana Jones theme in Temple of Doom. Just silly.

What’s the music during the “beat for beat” montage?

Brian E. Lindstrand

Mike's pitch for ROBOCOP 2 sounds much cooler than the actual film was. Also, Colin was 100% correct, the score was quite lame and PREDATOR 2 is an awesome movie!.
