Hi everyone!! This is an excerpt from a workshop I gave in October. Our lovely community member Theresa volunteered to make some small video segments out of a few areas from the workshop. I'll be posting a few over the next week or so.

I understand the science behind tongue placement but I can't get the affect I want but I'm working at it and your work helps me a great deal

I find while curving my tongue, it also helps to create a brighter sound if I open my pharyngeal space by contracting the muscles back at the neck. It feels like when you suck the thumb hard and it helps to reduce the nasal sound too.

My voice coach's explanation is something similar to vocal twang which makes the pharyngeal space works like a pipe-like resonator of a wind instrument. But I think more space means darker resonance in R1, so I am confused about it.
