I've been in a Dark Souls mood recently so I thought that the first NPC of the month should be an Onion Knight!

The Onion Knight, also known as a Knight of Catarina, is known for their jovial and selfless nature. Typically, an Onion Knight won't hesitate to charge into the fray to help or save anyone who looks as thought they'd need help.

Wielding a massive great sword known as the Zweihander, any who are clobbered by an Onion Knight understand the pain that is not only slashed but bludgeoned too as the weight of the slab of metal crushes their bones. An Onion Knight is always adorned in cylindrical plate armour that only exposes their eyes. As a result, they can be hard to take seriously especially as they struggle to keep up from the sheet weight of their gear. This can leave unsuspecting enemies surprised by their battle prowess. An Onion Knight is not to be messed with.

If your players are in need of an ally then an Onion Knight is the perfect person. Due to their selfless nature, they can be trusted on dangerous quests as well as making a great drinking buddy - especially if it involves beer and Estus Soup. If players were to challenge the Onion Knight, or underestimate them, then they will be in for a world of pain. The Onion Knight is a CR 4 opponent and will battle to the death for they are too noble to flee.

Use this character with your players to see how they interact. When voicing the Onion Knight, it's ideal to copy a voice similar to that of Siegward from Dark Souls 3. Use a bold yet aloof voice that captures a sense of size but humbleness too.
