Rumi Updates, FX, and What’s Coming Next (Patreon)

Hi guys!!

This update brings together early gameplay ideas, animation tests, and a few teasers of what’s coming next. We’re exploring new concepts with Rumi in a small experimental game mockup, while also continuing to push Battle Maidens forward with visual effects tests and subtle hints about future characters. Everything you’ll see here is part of the process, testing movement, flow, and how these ideas could evolve into something bigger.

We’ll start with Rumi.This animation is a concept mockup for a small game idea I’m helping develop alongside the Melongun team, who are also behind Battle Maidens.

This is the very first test of Rumi’s run. We focused on her base movement, physics, speed, and overall feel to see how she reads in motion.

In this version, her posture was adjusted to feel more grounded. She’s slightly more crouched, the shoulders were corrected, and the speed feels right. You can also see a new sword animation being introduced.

Here we organized an initial effects panel to start testing how visual feedback could be layered into gameplay.

This clip shows the first two attacks: an upward swing followed by a two-handed downward strike, plus a rail change to test transitions.

This is a more developed idea. Rumi attacks within the same lane, switches lanes to avoid a demon, and then performs an action that eliminates enemies in the opposite lane. This animation has more work behind it, and the results are starting to look really solid.

Additional motion effects were tested here, including camera movement and demon-related effects to give the scene more energy and impact.

Back to Battle Maidens, we ran a test implementing FX directly into a scene using Maria’s model. The goal is to enhance hits with visual effects that make combat feel stronger and more engaging during gameplay.
