Ero-Tank Animation Test: Alien-Bugs, Visual Effects Testing, and Desert Scene Progress (Patreon)
Content
Hi guys!!
This update is all about the new gameplay direction we’ve been developing together with Melongun Games, focusing on Bonnie, her vehicle, enemies, and the overall scene setup directly from Blender.
SummaryThe latest work shifts into gameplay production, introducing the Alien-Bugs, along with early VFX, missile animations, and environment building. We’re exploring how everything connects, from Bonnie’s movement and vehicle interaction to enemy behavior and scene composition, all while preparing assets for a more complete game-ready setup.
The last videos from the previous post were early tests from a few weeks ago, but now things are moving forward more seriously as we collaborate with Melongun Games. This is part of a gameplay sequence being animated from Blender, where we’re helping build Bonnie’s movement, physics, vehicle interaction, and enemy behavior.
We start with something new:
A ground Alien-Bug model created from scratch. The base is already defined, but it still needs more detail, textures, and a proper rig. The most interesting part so far is the walking animation, which was achieved using constraints.
Here’s a first look at the flying Alien-Bugs.They will have a spherical element on their heads, giving them a slightly organic, jellyfish-like feel.
We also began testing impact VFX.
This next animation shows a sketch and planning phase for missiles, explosions, and movement flow. The missiles are launched from behind Bonnie, since they come from the tank. She controls everything through a virtual interface, aiming to create the feeling of a 360° virtual cockpit, almost like being inside a cinematic control room.
Here’s a more detailed look with color, including movement tests and the first texture passes on the Alien-Bugs.
There are still things to refine, especially the rig and finer details.
Another iteration of the flying Alien-Bugs, now simplified so they don’t feel too large in the scene.
Here’s a comparison between Alien-Bug types.Color variations will be used later to clearly differentiate them.
You can also see early movement tests, including basic behavior inside ring-like paths.
Here’s a preview of both types in motion, with ground Alien-Bugs running and flying Alien-Bugs moving through space.
We also tested anime-style explosion effects, along with action/speed lines to enhance motion and impact.
A significant change was made to the environment. The scene is now set in a desert setting, with props placed as a base for testing. It’s not final yet, but it already works well for layout and experimentation.
And finally, here’s a general preview of how everything is coming together with Bonnie. There are still things to organize, like layout control and scene management. We’re also exploring adding systems like geo nodes to handle elements such as waves of flying Alien-Bugs.
The bike and Bonnie still need shader work, but the direction is already clear.
Thanks for all the support, more progress coming very soon.
