Dan didn't drag the mom hard enough for me...what do you mean your kid(s) needs to tell you to come back and be with your family + work on your marriage?!? And Nate should've thrown the ring in his dad's face

It's not an excuse but the chuck (and therefore him being with blair) stuff is hard because it's a combination of the early 00s culture and really bad representation of s/a and consent and general slutshaming vs glorifying the badboy AND the effect of when pilots were a true thing. they wrote chuck sexually assaulting jenny and serena in the pilot when they were still characterising and he was likely just going to be a true villain (and lowkey representing the most vile of privileged cis white men like his character who are very real), and the creators have spoken about very specifically seeing the chemistry between the actors of chuck and blair in the pilot and being like... oh shit this deserves to be explored but how do we write towards that?! and I appreciate that they didn't try to just retcon and pretend the pilot didn't happen or try to immediately make him "develop" or be less terrible or have people call him out to make him change because that wouldn't have been earned and that would be a fucked up form of undermining the severity of s/a by gaslighting the audience into normalising it - chuck is seen by everyone as a villain (and maybe at points an antihero?). SO with the context of him ONLY being written to that severity of almost raping girls in the pilot + them not trying to erase it or gaslight the audience I end up giving some leeway for the writers to in fiction let chuck develop or have any redemption. ... ok sorry, I'd promise I'll stop leaving essays in your comments but maybe you'll just never see these anyways LOL.
