With the Founder's Park dance on the horizon, Elena asks Stefan to go with her, while Vicki persuades Tyler to be her date for the evening. Elsewhere, Damon reveals more of the Salvatore family's past to Elena, while Stefan tries to get his brother out of his life without exposing their secret, and Elena worries about Caroline's relationship with Damon.

I guess Damon looks older than Caroline but he is actually only a few years older than Stefan, he died at 22 and became a vampire and Stefan was 18 when he became a vampire. However if my 17 year old daughter was with a 22 year old I would not be happy lmao. But it is not aria and ezra level 😂

OMG I haven't been around as much because life has been so busy but you're watching my favourite show of all time AGH. Hope you're loving it... I may not be able to watch along because I generally find Damon pretty personally triggering, and a lot of reactors tend to take it easy on him rather than hate on him the entire time... but the first 3 seasons are some of the best teen tv ever and I hope you enjoy the ride xx

Damon is meant to be around 25, although I'm not sure they state it explicitly in the show, significantly older than Stefan at 17, and Damon is depicted as sexually assaulting, r*ping, physically and mentally abusing a teenage girl, and having 0 regard for women's consent or autonomy... it's incomparably worse than Aria and Ezria because it's also romanticised and guised as "supernatural"... not every vampire is r*ping teenagers. I'm sorry if this comes across as aggressive, it's not meant to, but I truly just have no give for JP and co-writers and a lot of her messaging (she legitimately didn't "realise" the extent to which Caroline was mistreated until the #metoo movement, and still claims that she thinks "black women will save the world") , there was a time I couldn't even rewatch the show anymore (and for reference I've seen S1-3 over 20 times it's one of my ultimate comfort shows but delena truly became so triggering for me). SO yea I mean obviously it's just a show but... Aria and Ezra are bad, Damon is so much worse he's just a vampire.😅

Stefan was definitely not 18 but 17 when he was turned and Damon is supposed to be 25. Not to rain on your parade. Also both are over 100 years old and decided to go date a teenager so idk both are kinda weird tbh

Although yeah they are like 200 years old so really it’s crazy regardless 😂 I wasn’t defending Damon’s behaviour at all what he’s doing with Caroline is crazy also don’t give spoilers to later seasons (you referenced season 3) just a reminder that Mike has not watched the show yet and putting even small little spoilers can ruin it for a reactor ☺️ but I agree vampires of over 100+ years old going for a 17 year old girl is wild but it is a fictional love story and it’s a show that isn’t supposed to be that deep

I feel you so much in regards to Damon. ........I got SA'd at 15, so I dislike a lot of things Damon does, he inflicts so much pain onto people and minors, just because he isn't able to get over two girls not being into him.

With this show I forget that all the vampires are hella old like not even a 5 year age difference more like hundreds of years🤦‍♀️

I understand you weren’t trying to defend him, but I do think the show softens the impact of his actions to the point where viewers often see him as not being as bad as Ezra or even Chuck from GG (I definitely used to justify Damon and root for his redemption myself). Obviously supernatural lore complicates things a bit like @Ivy pointed out - but there’s not really a clear way to quantify immortals stuck in a physical body of a certain age. If we followed that logic strictly then, like… a 900-year-old vampire dating a 200-year-old vampire would also be weird, right? lol. So for me it’s more about how they function within society. Someone frozen at 17 dating another 17-year-old doesn’t really feel strange, but when someone is treated like an adult and operating in adult spaces, regardless of their internal age, that’s where it can start to feel uncomfortable imo.

I also definitely didn't spoil anything... Everything I'm talking about is from 1x01-1x04 and Damon's treatment of Caroline and Elena in those first few episodes, and the way "delena" were a romanticised "ship" from the get-go (because of the books too obviously), which I find triggering considering Damon being Damon. He consistently sexually assaults and abuses, Caroline, and tries to *compel* Elena into kissing him in 1x03 which is also a violation of consent. Mind control of any sort is the equivalent of date r*pe drugs or someone being in a state where they can't consent. All of these things are depictions of disregard for autonomy or boundaries, and exhibits abusive dynamics and manipulation.

OK I gave in and watched this reaction after reading some of the comments and I should've fucking known I could trust you to hold Damon's ass fucking accountable. ANYWAYS obviously there's more to the show than crow boy, literally the only thing I hate in my favourite show of all time, and this was so fun to watch with you. xx

Also @Vanillamellow I'm so sorry that happened to you, and I truly understand, but also can't imagine how it must feel for you, how triggering damon can be, again for me it's specifically the way the writers don't hold him accountable or acknowledge his behaviours and their reasoning for what they are like... there's no justification for his actions, but the show doesn't even allow his actions to be recognised, acknowledged, or weighed proportionately for what they are imo. not even villain SAs teen girls or deliberately puts the responsibility of his actions on others.

I AM LIVING FOR THESE REACTIONS. And you're right on the money about Damon and Caroline. Though the writers refused to call it rape, Ian Somerhalder who played Damon always said he considers it as such and was very much but much like Gossip Girl the early 2000's had really murky consent and assault kinks they very much enjoyed using to terrorize young girls.
