Stefan not saving Elena is one of the most ridiculous plots in this show...and Paul himself hates it. But since it did in fact happen, i'll just say that for me this is why I prefer Damon to Stefan. I get the whole letting her make her own choices thing but it gets to a point where you have to realize that sometimes those choices aren't the best for HER. I just couldn't imagine saving anyone over my girlfriend in a situation like that, regardless of whether she wanted me to

The books are not like the show. In the books, Elena is an angel (yes, an actual angel), Katherine is somehow her half-sibling despite being a vampire who's older than her I believe. I'm pretty sure in the books, Elena's blood can kill Klaus. Im pretty sure Klaus and Katherine were together too, idk if I'm wrong. Either way, the books and show are completely different from what I've heard. I also think The Originals don't exist in the books. Klaus is just on his own I think

for context Damon met Elena the same night she and her parents crashed off Wickery Bridge where Stefan saved her. And Damon compelled Elena to find exactly what she ending up finding in Stefan despite his words being those Elena spoke of Damon earlier in the episode. "I want you to find everything you're looking for..." then she meets Stefan.....

Also the whole meeting Damon first is clearly a retcon meant to service DE fans because s1 Damon is who was supposed to have been the one who mistook Elena for Katherine and Damon was fully in his evil bag at this time. he wouldn't have been chatting up a Katherine lookalike about her teenage problems. He would have abducted her ass right off that road. I wish they kept Damon's first meeting from the books because it was more interesting but then again so was Book!Damon's entire storyline so there's that.

I get it tbh...if this was real life, I wouldn't want Damon or Stefan anywhere near me. And like you said, in a perfect world, Elena would choose herself because that's honestly the best thing for her. But since this is essentially a love triangle tv show, I prefer Damon for many reasons (not just this). I'm so excited for you to watch season 4!

I don’t know how to explain it but I feel like so many conversations in this last episode had a double meaning or came back up later on in the episode, even Stefan and Damon’s conversation on the phone when Stefan tells Damon he gave Elena the choice to accept the deal with Elijah, Damon tells Stefan he would basically do anything with any means necessary to keep Elena safe whether she wants that or not. At the end of the episode you see Stefan listen to Elena again by saving Matt before Elena, Damon would have let Matt die and save Elena with no questions asked.

I wondered the same thing about Damon in season one and how he acted and I contemplated whether it made any sense and even though its a bit strange to think about i think it does: Damon in season one hadnt turned his humanity off right? because eveyrthing he did was with the sole purpose to get Kathrine back, so Damon was being a dick and selfish in pursuit of Katherine but his feelings were his own. He felt guilt, he just never showed it (remember Stefan asking him if he feels guilt and he says "If I wanted to it's there..." ). So yeah, we see a really bad side of Damon in Season one but we are seeing everything through stefan and elena we dont really get any inside dialogues of damons thoughts and feelings, we just see a villain with an ulterior motive having calculated plans without apologising for anything. So this could very well be an indication to a side of Damon that we never had a chance to explore. We only started exploring Damons character after he fell in love with Elena (mid season one). So i get the strangeness (sorry for my english) but the way i see it we are also getting some depth into a main character. Also, no spoilers but as the show goes on it does a very good job at reminding us that we know virtually very little about the vampire characters that have been alive for several centuries.

The originals exist. They’re just called the old ones and I don’t think they’re related. But Klaus is the only named character from the book that’s in the TV show. One of the old ones though is Solomon who does the trick where he possesses other people’s bodies.

i like both, tbh...both characters make mistakes, but so do most characters on the show. and since its a show about vampires my moral high isnt that big. l like klaus as well, and he is worse then both in generel
