Penance (oc dev stuff) (Patreon)

Hello! I've got a bunch of drawings to share today. I've been totally obsessed lately with character designing and working out these ocs. In my last post I did say I was going to have some animation to share this week but unfortunately I've been on a drawing binge- I hope you'll forgive me for that! I promise there will be animations down the line, that's what these ocs are being made for after all, haha.

I've been back at it again redesigning/figuring out the Handmaiden character, who I've decided to name Penance. Her brief backstory (still to be fleshed out) is in the past she was a terrible god that many times brought humanity to the brink of annihilation. But after watching them rise up again and again she learned they had a strength that she herself lacked- and became enamored with them. So now she assumes the form of a human, and by living as one wishes to learn about that indominable human spirit.

If you remember the previous design it had tanned skin and blonde hair. I was desperately trying to make work because it's a really sexy combo, but after sitting on it for a while I was wondering if that's what was really best for the design for the character. When I drew the little maids who had the ribbon hair I had so much fun drawing it I realized I had to make it so their master had something similar.

Here is the design with a bit more clothes off- well more specifically her wings. The angel wings acting as clothes is an idea I was really fond of from the get-go.

And here's some designs with her hair down- which was really fun to draw. There is something about this ribbon style of hair which both provides lots of 3 dimensional structure but it's also forgiving enough that if it doesn't make sense it can still look good. ...Sorry if that doesn't make much sense, all I'm trying to say is that its fun to draw hehe. The drawing 3A I am very seriously considering animating, that one turned out well. I also like in 3D that her floating eye is showing her true emotions while the human face stays stern... I hadn't planned that at first but it was a happy accident!

And lastly this was more of a concept kinda drawing rather than something concrete. I was playing with the idea of her "true form" being a terrible eye with erratic streamers/flowing dark hair, then using those ribbons-like things she creates a human body out of it. Sorta like a sailor moon magical transformation but leaning more on the eldritch side of things. And of course that eye becomes a part of her design- since that's her "true self".

Anyway sorry for the wordy post- I've just been thinking about this a lot lately haha. Its been really fun. That said I am lamenting the loss of the tanned skin and golden hair, I think I have no choice but to design her master with that look... So in my next post I'll either have some designs for the girl who is Penance's master, or perhaps some animation with this new look.
