From my little understandment of the Tau and the spheres of expansion, there is a reason as to why they ended. The first one ended because they didn't had fast enought ships, the second ended when they meet the Imperium. The 4th was just a mess when they entered the warp without any Geller field. The 3rd and 5th i don't know.
