"For Ulmo bore up Elwing out of the waves, and he gave her the likeness of a great white bird, and upon her breast there shone as a star the Silmaril."

Watercolour and gouache on Canson Vidalon paper, 26x35 cm.

I'm still wrestling the print file into submission; once I've got it, there'll be prints. ^^

Oh, I love this. The color palette is perfect!

Oh good heavens o.o A seldom-seen scene in artwork, if ever... It's almost "too" blue, but that makes it more "art-y", and the fishes really help frame Elwing. The barnacles on Ulmo are quite brilliant, by the way, adding a piece of texture that makes the whole image pop better! What parts were done with/added to with gouache?

Jenny Dolfen

Aw, thank you! I'm particularly pleased that the barnacles can be recognised as such; I had them much more detailed, and then washed out some of the colour again because they became too prominent. Gouache - everything that's bright white: many parts of Elwing, the detail on the fishes (it got lost because I couldn't mask them off exactly enough) and the two feathers (which I forgot to mask off) :)
