It's incredible how much I've suddenly fallen in love with inking! My self-perception, for the last fifteen+ years, has been, "I can't ink". I did have a feeling that I knew why that was, and that's proven true: I approached inking by doing a pencil sketch that was still pretty rough in places, and thinking, "I'll fix that when I ink."

Now in every piece, there were about ten places that could or might not work. Of those, five ended up not working. Of these, two tend of be in the face or hands, and that drags down the entire piece.

So I've taken to pencilling much more carefully, particularly in spots where I can't wing it (hands) or where a line needs to be ultra-clear and unambiguous (faces), so there's absolutely no doubt where that line needs to go.

And then it's hoping I *see* the line. A few times, I didn't see it, thought I'd caught a dry bit of the brush tip, did the line again, and then had two...

I'm going to put up the first few Inktober originals in my Etsy shop on Wednesday! My five-year-old computer is dying, and I've sent my eye(s) on a shiny convertible laptop instead. Our school now has Smartboards that you can pare with tablets, and it would be so easy to just throw any text I'm reading with students straight on the board...

YOU CAN INK and you're so good at it! This is such a lovely Finrod (weird coincidence: I was crying over this character this morning...!) So glad to see those pieces on Etsy ; I've been planning to buy a few stuff from your shop, so we'll see how tempted I get :D <3

How does mixing colours work?

Jenny Dolfen

What do you mean? For these, I mixed the paint on the paper - taking up a second colour and putting it in the still-wet paint on the paper.

Lenne Eeronketo

I am so incredibly deeply in love with your Inktober theme and these pieces.

Jennifer Colley

I can't tell you how much I love these inked pieces!

Augusta Vae

Any chance you'll offer prints of these? I really loved the Eowyn ink and watercolor from a few days ago. An original is probably a little out of my budget, and I wouldn't be surprised if you'd sold that one already, anyhow! Thanks!

Sophie JC

Ahh lovely! Finrod looks gorgeous!

Kateryna Wan

He's astonishingly cool <3 I wish I could have him as a postcard *____*

These Inks just make me wish you could do the Silmarillion as a graphic novel - all of it (and that means including all the Jenny-imagined in-between scenes)! One can dream.

Jenny Dolfen

The Éowyn one was in my sketchbook, so it's not for sale anyway! I'm thinking of doing small print packages for the Inktober ones once they're all done. (As many as there'll be!)

Maura Burns

You can ink! And I'm hoping I can get in at the right time to buy this one.
