It’s funny, most versions I’ve seen do actually subtitle the Mandarin between Pei-Pei and her mom but I guess if it’s not going to do it it might as well be for someone who already speaks Mandarin haha

I never seen someone that actually speaks Mandarin watch this movie before (you understand a little bit of Cantonese?) , Its a totally different perfective. And though I do adore this movie (it was my favorite when I was like 7) I don't like the "magical minority person" trope. Kind of like the Magical Negro trope. (I'm black before anyone comes for me for saying that) But I did enjoy your reaction to this, hilarious.

I can only understand the bits of Cantonese that sound similar to Mandarin 🤣 Definitely a frustrating trope, as is the "POC changes into a non-human entity for most of the film"

One thing I LOVE Is Jamie and Lindsay's relationship. Lindsey still talks about how Jamie was there for her, through a lot of hard stuff

You forgot to give a rating again! 😆 A few tidbits: - Anna actually mentions she's 15 ("I don't wanna get married at 15!"). So I'm gonna be optimistic and say Jake is 17-18 and left high school early. 😅 - I believe the advice Anna (in Tess's body) gives to the woman about her daughter not talking to her best friend because they both liked the same boy is implied to mean that's the reason why she and Stacey fell out. - You know Mark Harmon because he co-starred with Penny at some point in The Big Bang Theory!
