Did you notice at the very beginning, in the first song, when Madame M. starts singing and she’s surrounded by monkeys, that one of them was wearing a pink jacket she / he “stole” from Glinda in the first film? Just a little detail that made me laugh. I love this film, but I agree that musically the first part is better; however, the final duet is my favorite song from both parts.

I didn't catch that! That's hilarious XD

The amount of foreshadowing across the whole musical in regards to stuff from The Wizard of Oz is insane. By the way, the final shot of the movie, with Glinda whispering something in Elphaba's ear, is a recreation of the play's iconic poster.

So glad to be back on your Patreon, so many reactions to catch up on, but I had to start with this one and I loved your reaction to the movie!! Regarding Elphaba's surprise seeing the animals locked up, I feel it is more the shock of actually seeing it. She knew it was happening but never saw the brutality and cruelty of the treatment of the Animals. Knowing and seeing are 2 different experiences. During the 1st movie so many people acted like Boq just being sweet when he straight up lied and led Nessa on at the Ozdust (and after continuing an entire fake relationship). The scene at the Governor's mansion validates my point from the first movie that it was only ever cruel of him to lead her on and let her think he wanted to be with her and loved her when it was in fact just a pity date to make another woman happy the entire time! I hate how Elphaba (and the audience) seems to just give Glinda a pass for all of her heinous choices and support of the Wizard's fascist regime in Oz of oppressing the Animals and going along with his propaganda to vilify Elphaba! Alot of people have commented how unfair that Glinda does not have a happy ending because her friends just left her to mourn their deaths while running off together, but that is a very minimal consequence for her actions! As an autistic person myself, the fictional world of Oz is one of the few topics I fixate on too much... Personally, my favorite song of the entire musica has always been No Good Deed, and like all the other songs when compared to their musical counterparts, the movie (in this case Cynthia) was far superior!

Welcome back :) That's fair and makes a lot of sense. I've recently seen someone feel deeply radicalized after visiting the West Bank despite already being a fierce advocate beforehand. I'm definitely glad Glinda doesn't get a clean happy ending, though I do also think it's quite tragic to feel that alone the rest of your life since no one will ever truly see her again for all that she is, good and bad. Glad to hear the music in the film is so good compared to the original!
