The Wayhaven Chronicles— Update+ 23/Jan/2026 (Patreon)

I’ve been working on the big opening scene to this chapter that leads into the split, where you get one of two versions of the chapter depending on what you choose—and it’s a vastly different choice.

Obviously, I knew the two different variations are gonna be a lot of work, especially as they have some major skill check moments in them both, so they’re what had been on my mind.

What I didn’t think I’d struggle with is the opening!

But I’ve rewritten, deleted, changed, and adapted this scene so many times I’ve lost count!

I think it’s because it’s not the usual way I write scenes.

For a start, there’s no choices for a good chunk of it. It’s a moment where I want the MC to feel like things are getting out of control, and I thought a great game mechanic way to also have the player feel that way is to take away the choices.

It’s actually really working but also my brain is struggling ‘cause I love sticking in a choice even when it’s not really needed, lol! :D

There’s also a pretty major thing that happens in it that’s actually related to Book Five, so I need it to be an important moment to show, but I’m trying to find a way of getting it across without it feeling like the MC just does nothing.

It’s a balancing act I didn’t think I’d struggle so much with!

But I think it’s finally coming together, and it was worth the struggles to get it just right!

For Update+ this week, there’s a lot of tension floating about between the LI and Li-Sar, especially when it comes to the MC…

"You will not touch her/him/them." The words are growled low in warning from Adam/Ava, such threat behind them that it reverberates around us with chilling sharpness.

All Li-Sar does is an arch a brow and stare at him/her.

"You're in my way," Li-Sar states, but Adam/Ava doesn't move.
