QUESTION: "Rebecca, The MC has forgiven you for keeping some secrets from them, do you feel guilty about keeping more secrets?"

-

Her hands clench in her lap before she takes a breath and manages to force them to relax. “If preventing my child from leaning about some things keeps them safe or happy, then I will continue to hide whatever that truth may be.” She swallows hard, but a flicker of uncertainty crosses her usually steady expression.

“I don’t keep secrets to hurt them. I keep them because I will gladly bear the weight of them so as they remain unburdened. As much as that seems to backfire, at least I know that, for some time at least, they can live life without needing to worry or be in pain over the things I know that they do not need to.”

Oh Rebecca 😔 for my main mc, it’s not so much the secrets of the supernatural world, it’s that she’s grown without knowing anything about Rook (and the ever-evolving stories about him) and missed out on a life with Rebecca … and that the path forward isn’t so promising

This hurts my heart. Some of my MCs would just not stand for this, and I think some might not even care for her justification. Most of my MCs simply want to work together with Rebecca to take on these hard truths. I just fear that Rebecca is always suffering, always punishing herself. Please mom!! Communicate with me!!

My mc has had both ways loved Rebecca regardless held onto her because she's the only family left but I feel like being bitter and gradually working on the relationship feels better than secrets come out and it feels like we go back to square one

Tonya

My MC committed crimes throughout their youth just to get Rebecca’s attention. Considering the path my MC is on where she’s romancing A with no one else knowing about the supernatural, she probably feels like she’s not meant to be loved at this point and feels a similar weight as Rebecca since she has to keep the secret as well.

My MC still has a grudge against Rebecca. He feels like he was always alone, without anyone next to him, especially when he needs it during childhood and teenage years. He's stubborn as well so it's quite hard for him to believe and forgive her even with whole knowledge abt her job. But forgiveness will come. Eventually.

My MC hates that mentality. She always wants the choice and doesn't want to be "handled". Its part of the reason she still doesn't trust Rebecca.

Ah, this doesn’t bode well for my main MC and her already terrible relationship with Rebecca. She hates liars, and believes the best way to deal with anything is to have all the facts on the table. R’s way of hiding things is just going to make her even more distrusting of R. And if M ever gets hurt because of R keeping info from her? It will be war. The worst part is her abandonment issues caused by Rebecca, and feeling like everyone will always desert her (this plays big in her reactions to Mason). Rebecca isn’t doing her any favors. Quite the opposite.

Rebecca, sweetie… I don’t think side set is helping you or MC :C

I had a great relationship with my Mom and I miss her. It was impossible to play anything but a great relationship between Jason and Rebecca. I imagine it's depends on your background

My MC has a good relationship with her, trusted her to work with on mission etc. Rebecca is good at her job and seems to have a solid sense of duty which is a respectable thing. Perhaps they might even see a reflection of themselves in what they have to do to keep it secret from those around them not in the know but, now that the baseline is out in the open and they are working together there is the expectation that they are on the same team. The MC is no longer a child by leaps and bounds. Finding out that there are still secrets being actively kept vs just waiting for the right time will wreck them.

I know my MC trusts her but I don't and there are things that she isn't saying that need to be said. In my opinion she is only saying that it is to protect her daughter but its going to be worse for her in the long run.

I've played the whole range with Rebecca from best friends to scorched earth and, honestly, it's really only my refusal to have the MC's (and Rook's) defining characteristic become stubbornness that keeps me playing nice (and, ok, there's some guilt for being mean to her when she's trying so ineptly). Rebecca seems to me to be very self-absorbed. Everything is about her- her grief, her fears (for the MC, sure, but they're still HER fears), her career, her decisions, her secrets. She's a great, complex character, but it's always a struggle for me not to call her out when I'm trying to get along with her.

I'm going though old posts and this just gets to me! Can't see my MC and Rebecca rebuilding their relationship till she stops being so sneaky and also gets grief counselling. My God she needs it 😖
