Today we listened to probably the best Twenty One Pilots record ever. I had a freaking blast with y'all discovering the lore and finding my way through the plot points. This was fantastic 🔥 I have one little Ned tidbit for you... In the Chlorine video: Ned swimming in the pool = Tyler's creative process. Ned's antlers = The result of Tyler's creative process (songs) We don't find this out until the next album, but Ned's antlers give Clancy his power to seize and control the bishops. Tyler's music/songs are like a weapon against his personal demons/insecurities. This is why Clancy uses Ned's antlers to fight the bishops.

This band is so special to me. Trench is so special to me. Thank you for reacting to it!! It would be sick to see a reaction to Tyler’s storyteller performance, and, once you hopefully do Scaled and Icy, their MTV unplugged performances is one of the coolest shows of musicianship I’ve seen. You’d love it. SAI in my option is quite overhated, I really love that album too.

In Legend, the “I wish she knew you” is in reference to Tyler and Jenna’s oldest daughter Rosie who Jenna was pregnant with when Tyler’s grandpa passed. Rosie also has the same middle name as Tyler (Robert) so she is named after him.

Something that doesn't click about "Leave the City" on first listen, is that it is very clearly written for shows. On the Trench album tour it was the closing number and from that lense the whole song shows it's underbelly. On a stage in a room full of thousands of people, many of whom travelled there, Tyler makes a promise: "In time I will leave the city, for now I will stay alive" and every single one of those faces looking up at him makes the same promise right back.

"They know that it's almost over" at the end of the concert and then making that pact with everyone there to stick around no matter what, even though they will all eventually leave the show, the city, the country: he is asking us to make a promise while he's there in the room and then asking us to keep it even when he's not, in return he promises to do the same. I-/

I think with time I re-listen to other albums of theirs more but I can’t deny the impact that Trench had on me. it was my first time being part of the clique after I heard Blurryface so watching all the cryptic stuff happening with the lore, the website, etc and hearing the singles for the first time just cemented the pilots as my favourite band. Trench is their magnum opus for sure ☝🏻 the whole Trench era and its events is just goated.

The word play going over head upsets me sometimes lmao. Like "lean on my pride, I'm a lion" a lions "heard" or family is their pride. So lean on my pride is saying I dont mind at all, I'll lean on my family or my support system. Along with it, Cut my lip is about how you are causing yourself harm by making the same mistakes over and over (referencing drinking from a rusty cup knowing you'll cut your lip) and along with it, even though you're beat and broken down you keep self sabotaging. Then it starts speaking about your pride. Your support system. Being able to lean on them in times where self destruction feels like the best answer is so important.

I think you would love their Storyteller session and MTV unplugged (on YouTube)! It’s amazing to see how he takes these already amazing songs and remixes them on stage for a live performance. He also does the Berlin version of the Hype (also on YouTube) that you would probably also enjoy!! Seriously obsessed with their musicality and that they let us into that process with them.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so patient in my life. I’ve been waiting for this since Clancy came out. I always find it funny that Troy and I can love the same album, but have different favorites and least favorites every single time. I shouldn’t be surprised that Cut My Lip (one of my favorite tøp songs) wouldn’t entice Troy, haha. I really hope to see the other albums on here one day. This band and the fans are so important and the story is somber, yet, beautiful. Troy, I’d love for you to revisit the City Walls music video after getting through the other albums (at least Scaled and Icy and Blurryface). It’s really cool knowing all the music videos and the 10 year story be incorporated in City Walls. Also, apparently the band just did a concert for march madness in Indiana. I think that would be a cool video considering they put on such great performances and it’s more Breach that’s never been played live before (as well as some cool covers). In many ways, this album met me in my worst times, and having lived through them and met the follow up albums in different moments in my life, I still have this deep connection to this album. The unexpected connection I made with this band in highschool only deepened and I am so happy to revisit the "first listen" possibility through your content, Troy. Another banger 10/10

hi long time subscriber and follower here, thank you sooo much for listening to music that saved my life, and thank you for liking it! agreed that trench is their best record that YOUVE ever heard, but my dearest troy, you have not listened to blurryface. the One. the origin. The beginning of the clancy timelime (some say vessel is but we can debate about that in the comments!). pleaseee pleaseee with a cherry on top try and schedule that listening party!!! it was just the 11th anniversary of the album releasing 5/17!!! it has everything; depth, funny lyrics, insane production, hits, sleeper hits, emotional bangers, and is their best selling album to date(dont quote me on that :p) i think maybe youd really like it. in my very biased opinion, Trench is only topped by Self Titled, then Blurryface then Vessel, followed by Breach.
