So, I’m lying here in bed, trying to get some sleep with multiple thoughts on various stories running through my head and a thought came to me...

What do my viewers like to read or normally read ... male or female characters if they had to think about it?

I mean you could talk about men turning into women or women into men, but in general, what is the characters you tend to enjoy following more as a main character?

... I know ALL of my main cast tend to be female and that might affect the results or even if you want me to write more males ... just something I’ve thought about while ideas spin in my head xD

So here my conundrum while I do like a good story with a mature male lead for the most part in this is sad to say considering I’m a guy girls and women tend to be more mature early on in life and so that makes for a more interesting story not saying that’s always true I’m just saying that for the most part it is and so to summarize I don’t like whiny young male lead characters and I don’t like shallow female characters but that’s just personal preference

I concur. I prefer a fantasy genre in an overall sense, but it is absolutely teeming with whiny male leads, or the type that are completely OP yet refuse using their power properly just because they don't want to stand out. That's much less of a case whenever the lead is female. Unfortunately female lead is much rarer in the stuff I like to read. Recently I even started to find myself gravitating towards anti-hero type characters simply because they tend to get things done.

Authors tend to write female MCs better just subconsciously, seemingly. It's also easier for me to connect with them.

I like the female leads because I’m tired of seeing all these OP male characters who are truly wimpy and then women fall all over themselves just because the ML is somehow “special.” Also, I’m always worried because of the female isn’t the lead, I feel like they get sidelined too easily or put into a little box with no character development. There’s also the worry that a female will join the male’s “harem” even if it isn’t a harem genre. There just aren’t enough female leads who are both strong and yet still remain WOMEN. In a lot of these fantasy stories the women will be hyper feminine to play counterpart to the ML or they’re extremely masculine, essentially becoming “one of the guys” it seems. This is why I like the strong female cast you put together in your stories because you get a whole range of women, plus you get to see them develop as people, growing outside of their archetypes and becoming well rounded, with both character merits and flaws. I’m always happy when I find that the MC is a female and it’s not solely a romance genre. Move aside, men; the WOMEN are here to save the day!

First of all I do believe you got a skewed result here because wow when I voted girls have 97% but as for why I voted girls is because I've found a lot of fantasy authors when they write male mc's tend to litter their stories with one dimensional characters while when the mc is a girl I've found for whatever reason that the characters tend to be better written or at least more tolerable then the whiny male mc's or the mc's that get everything they can possibly want handed to them on a silver platter with even the secondary characters getting more chances to shine since they are not constantly being sycophantic is the secondary is male or constantly having forced romantic interest crammed into their character if they are female

I think the entire genre of fantasy is skewed by an overrepresentation of bad authors writing bad male MCs. It doesn't really matter if the MC is male or female, the real problem is that the character development in many stories is just... severely lacking. Male or Female is a surface level detail. It should be a starting point for a character's perspective, not the entire character. Choosing a main character should be to provide the perspective of the story you want to show the reader. Whether they are male or female should just be a small start of the character's whole design and backstory.
