π ACTIVATION EXERCISE 7: The Threshold State (Patreon)
Content
Learn how to stay conscious in the space between awake and asleep.
The hypnagogic state β the threshold between waking and sleep β is one of the most information-rich states a human nervous system can access. The analytical filter is down. The subconscious is active. Images, insights, and knowings arrive without the usual gatekeeping. Many of the most significant creative and intuitive breakthroughs in history were reported to have arrived in this state.
Most people pass through it unconsciously, on the way to sleep. This exercise teaches you to find and hold it deliberately.
YOUR MISSION
Do this tonight, as you're going to sleep.
As you lie down and begin to feel the transition toward sleep approaching...don't follow it into sleep. Hold the edge. Try not to tense or use your mind to force yourself to stay awake.
Instead, place one point of attention on the inside of your eyelids or on the quality of the darkness behind your closed eyes.
See what appears here. Images. Colors. Geometric patterns. Fragments of scenes. Thoughts that don't quite make sense. Don't grab at them. Just observe.
Ride the edge. If you fall asleep, that's fine, but if you can hold it for even thirty seconds while remaining conscious, YOU'VE FOUND THE THRESHOLD STATE!
In the morning: before getting out of bed, write down anything you remember from the threshold β any image, any fragment, any feeling that was present there.
This takes practice. The goal is to begin making the transition conscious. This opens the channel to the messages you're able to bring back from the threshold state.
EACH TIME YOU REACH THE THRESHOLD
report it here with your findings. however fragmented it may be. the fragments add up.
