This is one that aired first on Fox that was the rewrite after the network said the first episode was to dark. The world building narration at the start was something that was added after it went into syndication and the physical media releases. Originally it was just the theme song. Couple easter eggs for this episode. The federal marshal uniforms were “borrowed” from Starship Troopers. If you look at the containers of medicine you will see a combined US and Chinese flag. Welcome to the this awesome and we only have 12 left and a movie feeling. 😂 It keeps getting better from here.

A Starship Troopers easter egg?! Awesome. I hope there are more you can share. We are watching 3 & 4 tomorrow.

Firefly was created and written by Joss Whedon, the same guy that wrote "The Avengers" and "Toy Story."

Great reaction! Thanks for sharing! One of my favorite shows! I laughed too hard when Mal kicked him into the engine. I was one of the few among my friends that loved the show from this, the first episode they aired. Took many of them with me so we could be browncoats together. As this aired first, the Pilot episode can be jarring because Mal is harder there than he is here. Executive meddling at its finest. FOX wanted them to tone it down. Given what we have seen, I would have liked to see what Joss and Tim (Minnear, co creator on this) were going to do. I think Firefly is Joss at his peak. Angel and Buffy had season arcs. I think he was finally ready to do a series arc with this show. Obviously he didn't get that chance. He did get Dollhouse and I think he tried to do a series arc with that. However, that show didn't work for me as well as Firefly did. Babylon 5 remains my top show but as it did get the full five seasons of 22 episode each, it has more ups and down. It was allowed to the do the slow burn to the big pay offs. It has some lows, to be sure, but repeated viewings have shown that even the "bad" episodes gave some information that was important. Take care!

Thanks for the extra trivia, Jon! We will have to take a look at Babylon 5; we will need another series.
