Wow, what an episode! Thanks for sticking with us as we navigate the 'verse, one unforgettable episode of Firefly at a time

Heads up Browncoats - Nanette forgot to turn off her space heater, so her audio on this might sound a little different. (She noticed halfway through) 🙄

This is one of the best-written episodes of any TV series I've ever watched. It was genius how they tied three different timelines together inside the episode. I've always said that the characters make Firefly the incredible show it is. Falling in love with them is only natural and ties all Browncoats together.

We have fallen so hard for them. This episode was phenomenal.

As Bob said, it's one of the best episodes of television ever produced. The music, lighting, narrative structure, and my gods the editing is just beautiful. I'll first do a couple of things on the episode and then tell the story I promised to tell on this episode. This is definitely TMI., so you’ve been fairly warned before you read on. 😂 One, is that the catalyzer Kaylee talks about is mentioned several times throughout the series and even in the first episode, that if they don’t get one, they won’t be flying. So, it was some nice foreshadowing of what happened in the episode. Second is the crew that came on for the other ship. The captain is wearing a red sash, which being a space western, and if you call back to Tombstone, the cowboys were all wearing red sashes. So, onto the story, and don’t feel bad Nanette about crying on this episode. 😂 I do. Every. Time. It has to do with that scene and how Nathan Fillion played it. In 1998, I was shot in the abdomen, very similar to where it happened to Mal. Of course, I went to the hospital. I was there for a several hours, and then they decided to send me home. The one thing that I was afraid of after I got home was that if I went to sleep, I was not going to wake up. I stayed up almost all night, but then eventually, adrenaline, pain, meds, and everything, I finally fell asleep. Fast-forward a few years, and I see this episode of the show. The way Nathan Fillion played that scene and the way he said, “you’re all gonna be here when I wake up went right?”, cut right through me. I’m not sure I ever had completely processed what had happened or how I felt that night until I saw that scene. Nathan Fillion 100% nailed what it felt like and what the fear was. Its a story. I said I always wanted to tell him if I ever had the opportunity to meet him. Tell him how he did such an amazing job in that portrayal. So now every time I see this episode even when I watched it with you bith, always cry, every time and if I am very lucky I always will. If you made it this far, thanks for reading the whole thing.

I'm sorry that happened to you, TeatroGrottesco. I can see how you could immediately identify with Mal before he went to sleep. I also want to admit that I also tear up during this episode every time I watch it.

I appreciate that, thanks for the kind words. Its not something I would ever want to go and “take back”. I learned a lot from the experience and fortunately no lasting physical damage.

Teatro, thanks for sharing. ❤️ That's an intense story – so glad you're here to tell it. That fear you felt that night sounds terrifying. I can see why that scene with Mal hit you so hard. You're right, Nathan Fillion nailed that vulnerability. Thanks for pointing out the details about Kaylee and the red sashes; we didn't notice them.

"You all gonna be here when I wake up?" A good episode. Telling us how they got Serenity and got together. I will say that I'm not always great about distancing myself in knowing it's a TV show. I knew it was back next week, I kept our TV schedule, so knew that it wouldn't end. That's not to say that it wasn't good or that I didn't feel the tension but for me it was more about how they were going to be saved, not if. That's why how the movie goes did put in the mindset of who was going to make it. More on that when that happens. Thanks for sharing! Take care!
