Michael Lynch

Just an all-around incredible movie and series. Mel Gibson is apparently writing the fifth movie. And that’s awesome because he is a great movie writer and Director.

Michael Lynch

Movies of the 80s and 90s were so great. So much great real Acting and character development. Today’s movies can’t hold a candle.

Gary Giaimo

Every single one of these movies is worth watching. In my opinion, LW2 is the best of the series, but they all have so much to offer as far as the characterization and familial bonds go. The chemistry between Gibson and Glover along with Murtaugh's family is really what separates this series from the other buddy cop movies, and those two links are just as strong in the sequels.

This is something I’ve experienced with all North American channels I’ve subscribed to over the years. My DVD copies always run out of sync, but luckily I upgraded all of my favourites to Blu-rays which stay in sync (probably due to all versions running at 24fps but I’m not certain). Either way I’m not sure there is a simple solution, and they are not alone with this issue. Have you had different experiences with other Region 1/A channels?

FranciscoGios

It's all good ladies, Lethal Weapon is a good watch anyway 👌

Markus E.

My solution to this problem: I rip the movie / TV show from the DVD and then play it on my computer using a video player (VLC, in my case) that allows me to play the video with a different speed. If I play the PAL-video with 96% speed, it keeps nearly in sync.

Ry Jo

LW2 is probably my favorite, but you should watch them all. it is a great series

REDR58

This is one of my favorites and I'll be watching later tonight but please do continue the series. Lethal Weapon 4 has a particularly fun car chase.

Totally Whatever

We will explore what other channels are doing and see if we can offer something helpful on our end. James & Markus - thank you for sharing your solutions to the syncing issue.

Totally Whatever

We are already planning on watching LW2! We've heard so many rave reviews, and we want more of Murtaugh and Riggs.

REDR58

This movie was written by Shane Black who played Hawkins in "Predator," the guy wearing glasses who kept making sex jokes and the first of Arnold's squad to get killed by The Predator when he chases after the woman to stop her from getting away. Darlene Love, who plays Murtaugh's wife Trish is a singer. One neat thing about the first 4 Lethal Weapon movies is that all of the actors who play Murtaugh's various children, Ebonie Smith (Carrie), Damon Hines (Nick) and Traci Wolfe (Rianne) will return in each successive movie so you get to see them grow up on screen, particularly the 2 youngest kids. Traci Wolfe was about 26 in this movie playing a bit younger. Jackie Swanson, who plays Amanda Hunsaker, performed the stunt jump/fall herself. She fell about 35 feet backwards onto an airbag that was painted to look like the street and top of the car and the scene cuts away *just* as she hits the airbag. If you watch in slow motion, just before the scene cuts away in the very last frame, you can see the stretch marks appear in the top of the airbag as her backside hits it. A few moments later you see her again laying on top of a pre-crushed car. You might have noticed the "End Apartheid" sticker on Murtaugh's kitchen fridge... The director, Richard Donner (who also directed "Superman") was very much anti-Apartheid in South Africa (as was Danny Glover) and Donner was also concerned about animal welfare, so throughout these movies you will see signs and other references to those causes. When Riggs tells the drug dealers in the Christmas Tree lot that he is crazy, he does a little Three Stooges' routine slapping each of the 3 men around. Grand L. Bush, the young African-American cop who brings Murtaugh the report to his office just before Riggs pulls out his gun was also in "Die Hard" as one of the 2 unrelated FBI men who are both named "Agent Johnson." Just as Riggs pulls the jumper off the roof to jump into the airbag, you can see the fake handcuffs split apart and after a moment the other actor (Michael Shaner) grabs Gibson's stunt man's hand, I guess in an attempt to hide the break. Notice that Murtaugh's house has a incomplete interior wall by the kitchen as it seems the family was renovating and this is well before the car crashes into the house! Later, when Riggs leaves dinner at the family's house, he was telling Murtaugh that he was a good sniper who killed a enemy soldier at a very long distance in Laos (during the Vietnam War), and of course this skill is seen later in the desert scene. The envelope containing Hunsaker's yearbook and videotape was indeed sent to Murtaugh at his home by the police department. You can see it says "Evidence" stamped on the front. Al Leong, a now-retired actor and stuntman, plays "Mr. Endo" (long hair and short beard) who uses the water and battery to torture Riggs. Leong also was in "Big Trouble in Little China" and "Die Hard" as the terrorist "Uli" who steals a candy bar from the ground floor snack-bar at the Nakatomi Tower. He's going to show up again in Lethal Weapon 4 in a different role. He's in a lot of 1980s/1990s action movies. Speaking of helicopter stunts like the one in the desert with the limo, a good action/cop movie featuring a LOT of real helicopter stunts that almost certainly would not be performed today is "Blue Thunder" (1983), starring Roy Scheider ("Chief Brody" from "Jaws"). Check it out. I'm glad you both liked the movie! Now I just noticed that you watched Predator 2 a few weeks ago that also had Danny Glover and Gary Busey, so I'm going to check that out later this week! Great reaction!

Markus E.

Just FYI: That problem hasn't really anything to do with your channel - it's a general problem with PAL-videos (like e.g. European DVDs) and you can't really do anything about this on your end. It's the same with all other reaction channels.

Darlene Love sang one of the greatest Christmas song in my opinion 'Christmas(Baby Please Come Home)'. She used to make annual appearances on David Letterman's show and perform it live. She also sang 'All Alone on Christmas' from the movie Home Alone 2.

Totally Whatever

So glad you enjoyed our reaction. Thank you, as always, for sharing all of this extra trivia. We are looking forward to watching Murtaugh's children grow up as we continue with the series. We have already added watching LW2 to our schedule.

What a great watch! Yes, it can technically be considered a Christmas action film, but it is exactly six months until Christmas, so I figure its a treat, plus the two of you can begin the series. It is a remarkable action movie series. The chemistry between Mel Gibson and Danny Glover is some of the best I have ever seen in any films ever. A few tidbits I took down during the viewing: Jackie Swanson, who plays Amanda Hunsaker, wearing the nylons. When Nanette said, "I like her nylons though..." I literally said to myself "ME TOO NANETTE. ME TOO." I absolutely love when women wear nylons (I am sure I like them for different reasons) So I was laughing out loud on that one. Eric Clapton, one of the greatest guitar players and musicians of all time, does that classic guitar slide, and the sax and music from David Sanborn and Michael Kamen makes the score one of the best of any action movie franchise. The films become more comedic as they go by, although they still maintain some serious dark elements at times. More characters are added into the series as it progresses from 1989 to 1998, and all four films are excellent. I actually think Lethal Weapon 2 is the best of the series, but I recommend them all. Great reaction! Mike

- In the opening scene, when the woman is falling, just before she hits, you can see that the background is an airbag painted to look like the car and pavement, and the shot cuts away just before she hits. - Murtaugh tells Riggs that Hunsacker saved his life in the Ia Drang Valley in 1965. This was the first big battle of the Vietnam War involving Americans. Coincidentally, Mel Gibson made an excellent true story movie about it "We Were Soldiers" (2002) based on the book "We Were Soldiers Once . . . And Young" written by reporter Joe Galloway and Lt. General Hal Moore. - A few years after "Lethal Weapon", Mel Gibson did an action/comedy about the CIA in Vietnam called "Air America" (1990) - Mel Gibson and Danny Glover were both in the western action/comedy "Maverick" (1994) based on the 1960's TV show

JAKH

More good action by writer Shane Black: "The Last Boy Scout" (1991) Bruce Willis, Damon Wayans, Halle Berry, Bruce McGill "Last Action hero" (1993) Arnold Schwarzenegger "The Long Kiss Goodnight" (1996) Samuel L. Jackson, Geena Davis "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" (2005) Val Kilmer, RDJ "The Nice Guys" (2016) Russell Crow, Ryan Gosling

JAKH

All 4 of the Lethal Weapon movies are worth watching, but the other 3 are _not_ set at Christmas. There is also a spoof: "Loaded Weapon 1" (1993) starring Samuel L. Jackson. This can be watched anytime _after_ "Lethal Weapon 3"

Totally Whatever

So happy to hear that you liked this reaction! 😂 YES, those nylons are amazing! Glad we agreed on that one. And the music is incredible, I didn't realize that was Eric Clapton on the guitar.

Totally Whatever

We will have to go back and try to catch the part where you can see the airbag!

Phil Stubblefield

I finally had a chance to watch this reaction — which was fantastic as usual! — and I'm a week late, so I'm not sure you'll see this comment. In any case, I'll add my voice to those recommending all three of the sequels. As others have said, LW 2 is probably the best, but each is an entertaining watch, and all are far above the quality of the typical Hollywood sequel. Finally, I have just one question: Carolyn, which do you like better, saxophone music or broken glass? 😉

Totally Whatever

Glad you finally had the chance to watch this one. We already have plans for Leathal Weapon 2! 😆 Carolyn says she has to put broken glass first, but she still love the sax music!

Einherj

If you want to see more Mel Gibson, you should definitely watch The Road Warrior (1981). It basically invented the genre of post-apocalyptic wasteland films and games.

Totally Whatever

We are recording Braveheart tomorrow! We do have The Road Warrior on our list too.

I think the Murtaugh family is my fav movie family of all time.
